F1 2021 is the perfect complement for any Formula 1 fan. The new game modes elevate this edition several points above its predecessor thanks to a simulator that Codemasters has turned into a gift for fans of single-seater cars, and that every year comes closer to perfection.

Perhaps the most important thing about F1 2021 is that Codemasters has not messed with the actual mechanics of driving the car much, beyond tweaks necessary for the 2021-spec cars. With a good force-feedback wheel, the cars are engaging to drive, and you can feel subtleties in cars from different teams—a McLaren handles differently to an Alpine to a Red Bull to a Mercedes, as you'd hope they would. If you're a fan of the sport, you'll probably enjoy playing F1 2021.

F1 developers have perfected their formula in the past 4 to 5 years and F1 2021 didn’t really need to make a lot of changes but the two player career mode is a welcomed addition but the returning story mode is not as good as the rest of the package and needs better writing and acting for future versions. The best asset here is the amount tweaks you can make to difficulty and simulation settings, making it a great choice for both causal and professional racing game fans.

It is still very much into online gaming and even more so with career co-op. There is also a lot to do in all areas (management, development, tuning, driving), depending on the level of complexity that you have adapted to your tastes. A must have for any Formula One fan.

Nothing to do with the rest of the proposals, which introduce us fully in the F1 world. If you come for the races, it is a spectacular videogame, but if you come for the story mode, be cautious.

Of course, the driving itself seals the deal, and it's a winner on that front. This is a no-brainer for F1 fans, but it's also a fantastic entry for newbie drivers to start with.

For an annual release, Codemasters manages to top themselves year over year, and this time is no different. After being bought by EA, I can only see positives by this relationship, and shows a promising future for the F1 series. The story of Braking Point is an absolute highlight, the return of fan-favorite Two Player Career mode is a delight, career mode is as fun as ever, and makes for a wonderful package. With raytracing, DLSS, and other next-generation features, F1 2021 feels truly fresh and exciting, like it hasn’t been before.

Fans may want to keep an eye on outside influences on Codemasters as time goes on, particularly with cosmetic options, but F1 2021 still provides the incredible thrills and deep choices of how to play that the series has become known for.

F1 2021 adds a few new fixins to the strong foundation of last year’s game, along with the misfire that is Braking Point. Having the option to add dynamic dramatic events to the existing Career mode would be preferable to bland pre-rendered cutscenes that come with Braking Point. There's a lot of fun to be had with F1 2021, even if a true next-gen leap may not come along until next year.

F1 2021 has undeniably struggled with COVID and the limitations it has put on both the sport and the game. However, either despite or because of these limitations, this manages a step forward that the series failed to take two years ago, it brings a genuine story to the game. Braking Point is an undeniable success and, one would hope, marks a starting point in which Codemasters can advance as the series moves forward. Beyond this new mode, almost every aspect has been polished to a diamond-like shine, with the only aspects needing improvement are the MyTeam mode, which already looks lacking as a story of progression when compared to Braking Point, and the poor AI in team management. Despite this minor issue, there's no doubt in my mind that this is the best of the franchise so far and a great launching point to the next generation.

It all shapes up to make F1 2021 more than, well, F1 2020+1. The new game has applied a generous amount of polish to the things that it carried forward, and the new modes, such as Braking Point and the two-player career mode, add some appreciable entertainment to a solid racing game. It is equally enjoyable to an F1 nut as to someone who is entering the sport fandom, and I have been having a great time whenever I fire it up for a few laps.
Xbox Achievements - 90 / 100
While it's a shame that classic cars have been nixed this year, F1 2021 is nonetheless an exhilarating racing game brimming with compelling modes and customisation features, as well as the new Braking Point story mode, for countless hours of wheel-to-wheel action. Another sterling effort from Codemasters, racing games don't really come much better than this.

As someone who has mostly only played (for racing games) Need for Speed, Burnout, and Gran Turismo (and.. ye old Tokyo Xtreme Racer), would this game still be a good recommendation?

You have to be methodical, learn to decelerate without just slamming the breaks, race cleanly (as in, you absolutely cannot touch any other cars), you can spin out pretty easily and there's certainly nothing like drifting or other arcade staples.
There should be demos for the older games on the store to try out
ID: h5f94slYeah out of the games he listed, GT would probably be the closest. The f1 games aren't full hard-core simulation games, and the settings can certainly be adjusted for more arcade style, but I feel like game is more intended to be played on the Sim side.
The main draw of career mode for me is starting with an underfunded and underpowered team and slowly building them up through race performances and upgrades. If that gameplay loop is something that sounds interesting, it could be a good match.

The handling is really nice, but my personal favourite aspect is the strategy that goes on the races with pit stops, safety cars, dynamic weather and mid-race failures. Also if you're an offline player the MyTeam and MyCareer mode give you some good hours of fun.
Be aware that the game has microtransactions though, they're purely cosmetic, but they're there.

I’ve been playing the F1 games since the 2011 edition on PS3. The last two years the game has really hit its stride with the addition of My Team career where you can build up your own team through many seasons and experience a dynamic F1 ebb and flow with drivers moving teams and teams fortunes rising and falling with time. Or if you prefer you can join an existing team as a driver in a more traditional career mode format. The career mode is really the draw of the series at this point and while last year there were some kinks with its implementation (development goals during practice being near impossible to achieve etc.) I’ve noticed less of that nonsense this year, it’s more refined. My wishlist item is a more advanced design platform for car liveries, your selections at the start are pretty limited even if you bought the deluxe edition of the game as I did. I’m the type that wants to dig in and create something really interesting but at the moment there’s just preset liveries with color change settings.
The big headline feature this year is the more filled out story mode, I haven’t dug into this much yet but from what I’ve seen it’s pretty much what you’d expect, a bit cheesy and short but kinda cool for what it is. If you like sports career modes that have story elements you’d probably enjoy it for what it is.
Driving feels really great on the pad, I haven’t invested in a PS5 wheel but my big recommendation for using pad is to play around with the calibration settings and increase the throttle linearity and brake linearity somewhat, makes for a more forgiving pad experience IMO as it’s more difficult to be extremely refined with your braking and accelerating.
My only gripe is the removal of classic cars, they were a cool addition last year and I found myself spending more time than I thought I would running laps in the classic cars competing with ghosts. It’s a shame to lose them.
Overall the series has become extremely refined in the last years and the feeling on track is exactly as it should be, AI seems to be pretty damn racy this year. They will fight you through corners and do less stupid shit during practice and qualy. If you’re interested in racing sims at all I say go for it.

I picked up F1 a few years ago just for the sake of it because it looked interesting. I love watching F1 races but never looked into the video games. I’m also a GT fan.
I’ve enjoyed it ever since and the last two years it has really improved.

This is the first F1 game I’ve ever played and I have been really enjoying it.
The story mode was short, but I just looked at it as a long tutorial.
I’m excited to start a 2 player career with my buddy, this weekend.

My impressions so far:
- Plays surprisingly well with a controller, though I'm not in love with the adaptive trigger implementation
- Braking Point seems a bit half baked. The first scenario is "win the F2 championship", and then you're in F1. I seem to remember they had a young driver test in the last F1 game I played, which would've been nice to get a feel for the new machinery
- With a wheel and all assists off, it's very challenging – curbs are absolutely deadly, and I can very rarely catch a slide
I'm keen to spend a lot more time with it over the weekend and see if I can get more comfortable with the wheel.

The "bump" in austria before the hairpin/turn 3 has never been there. They desperately need to start laser scanning the tracks if they want to be taken seriously.

It can be pricey (i paid £240 with the gear stick attachment)
You can pick up cheap wheels but they do not have forcefeed back and that is something you need to experience.

Very fun game. I have been used to GT Sport for a few years and this is the only other racing game I've picked up (other than Wreckfest). It took a while to get used to driving the beast of a car that F1 cars are but got the hang of it and really enjoyed it.

Man, quality mode is screen tearing like a mofo 🙁 also, replays are 30fps (or even less?). Pretty disappointing. They definitely need to address the screen tearing
