The SSD really is the game changer. can't wait for current gen to really take off and we can see games really take advantage.
Sony's first party is going to absolutely kill it especially

Games loading in 2 seconds is probably the most next gen thing about the PS5. And worth the price of admission, especially if you’re coming from a base PS4
ID: h5gnq0nI took me a while to realize what was different about Miles Morales. No ficking loads.
ID: h5fymimIt is great getting back to no/barely any loading times like we had on the NES/SNES/N64 days.
ID: h5fw2hkI got my first “this is next gen” feel when I was playing my Series X the other week. About a month ago me and my kid were playing A fighting game and we had to pause the game and run to the store real quick. Forgot all about the game. Then, a month later, we remembered “we never finished that fight”. So we sat down and loaded the game up using quick resume and it was right where it left off with 30 seconds left in the round me mid combo. Just picked it up and kept playing despite me playing multiple games since.
Then I wanted to show him Demon Souls and he was like “holler at me when it loads I’m gonna go .. “ and before he finished the game was loaded.
These consoles are great!
ID: h5fypg4That console players have had to put up with 90 second to 2 minute loading times is so crazy to think about now. Couldn’t imagine ever going back to that
ID: h5fwy54I will admit that feature is the XSX is the most appealing to me. PS5 is suuuuper fast on the native PS5 games, but it would be great if we could have it on that level
Edit: I love how in this sub I get downvoted for even suggesting Xbox has a good feature.
ID: h5hxnf1I'd say it's the most actively noticeable, sure, but most next gen? Nah.
Graphics you kinda just get used to but they are a massive upgrade over last gen.
Personally I think the DualSense is the most next gen thing, it's incredibly immersive when used correctly.
ID: h5gks4fPS4 games play like a dream on ps5. I know that sounds like an obvious statement, but I didn't really expect it and ended up re downloading some games I hadn't played in a while and loved it.
ID: h5jnah4Having games like divinity original sin 2 load in seconds is a game changer. Makes restarting fights not take 5 minutes for more gameplay.

I love resuming an activity card and it just loads into the game, skipping the menus (Spider-Man).

My biggest shock is when I did fast travel in Genshin Impact. It took frustratingly long on PS4 that I skipped playing the game. Then they had a PS5 version and GODDAMN! Two seconds to fast travel from anywhere to anywhere on the map.
I just spent five minutes fast traveling like a madman and giggling to myself like a little girl the whole time.
I also intended to play some PS4 games when I got PS5. But after seeing the fast loading, I actually deleted all the games I had that didn't have a PS5 version. There is no going back here.
Fast loading really is a game changer. Now we need the rest of the next gen stuff to catch on and we'll have a complete set. I'm talking about next gen graphics. So far, Ratchet is the only 'real' next gen game. I'm waiting for more triple A exclusives that show off this gen.
ID: h5gwviwIf loading time is your jam, Returnal is top notch there. Whether it's actually loading a new area or jumping from one spot to the next, it's instantaneous, feels fucking awesome, looks insanely cool and sounds amazing.
ID: h5h187qJust got the plat for it the other day. 😀
ID: h5i90hlDirt 5 too. I play a lot of racing games on both console and PC and Dirt 5 on PS5 is by far the quickest loading out of any that I’ve ever played. Going from confirming your car selection in the garage, loading the track, and starting the 3,2,1...Go! takes 5 seconds tops. Pausing during a race and choosing Restart is literally instant. There’s zero delay from “yes I would like to restart” to “3,2,1...Go!”
It loads so fast that it’s actually a bit jarring. Like woah, give me a second to take a breath before we start this race, lol.
ID: h5ifhraI would have shaved literal HOURS AND HOURS off my AC Odyssey platinum if I had PS5 fast loading. From like a minute and a half to fast travel on base PS4 to what 15 seconds maybe on PS5? I fast travel a lot in open world games and it adds up over 100+ hours
ID: h5ipuqlTell me about it! Fast loading is such a game changer.
Even in a short game like Astro Bot, I was fast traveling left and right for the missing collectibles and it was a breeze.
Now imagine doing that in Horizon 2!

I'm looking forward to "PS5 - now in stock"
ID: h5ghnlpIf you follow stock alerts it's a lot easier to get one. I'm in Canada and get alerts from two different Discord servers. I already got one at launch, but in the last month I have managed to get my Dad a console, and two other friends as well.
ID: h5iaed6My uncle just bought one from Calgary for me. Stocks are starting to be more readily available in Canada.
ID: h5fksnkAs someone who already has one, I hope so too. I’d love for others to be able to experience the system and I know quite a few people who want one but can’t find any in stock.
ID: h5g2yxzAhah cheers mate, still trying to get one here, hoping I’ll succeed before BF2042’s launch. I hope your mates get their consoles soon 🙂
ID: h5fppuaGet the HotStock app or follow people on Twitter. Been quite a few drops lately
ID: h5g5p6hfollow who?
ID: h5fljonNow In Stock is my GOTY personally
ID: h5g2sz5Dare I say, Game of the Generation

These ads are getting really annoying. We have nothing to show so here's a trailer for a basic feature of our almost 1 year old console lmao
-
i just platinumed ratchet and clank and it got so weird that the game had no loading at all that i was getting frustrated when i died cuz of the 2 seconds it took to get to the game, this is coming from someone who played dark souls with alot of loading with each death lol
the more technology advances the more impatient we become
-
The market leader is also producing the most advertisements. Sony clearly has this generation in the bag.
-
I’m coming from the Switch. Feels like I time travelled.

Joining a quest in monster hunter world/iceborne before it ends or doing multiple quest in a row has never been so satisfiying xD, I didn't realize how long those loading screen were on ps4 until I boot the game on ps5 and it's not even optimised for the ps5.
I can wait to see how ssd and re-engine will look like for the next main monster hunter , mh 6, on ps5 in 2023(according to the capcom leak of 2019).
-
I mean, yeah SSDs are great, but it's really weird seeing the constant ads for console features Sony keeps releasing. Like... we get it. The console is out. The features are known. Hell just a few daysa go I joked they'd release another SSD advertisement and... here we are.
What will they rehash next? 3D audio again? Maybe talk about the controller? Oh, what if they make an ad to let us know PS5 has a disc and digital model?
ID: h5kcmxpYou mentioned the word 'joke'. Chuck Norris doesn't joke. Here is a fact about Chuck Norris:
Chuck Norris does not code in cycles, he codes in strikes.

As a long time PC gamer I had a good chuckle watching the Rachet showcases and now this listening to them say 'harness the power of the SSD!!' while SSDs have been around a while and arguably PS4 pro could of fitted one I am glad to see this gen consoles finally embrace it as I guess its more cost friendly now.
ID: h5k82tsI think it goes deeper than just an SSD. Think it has more to do with no extra “steps/hardware” in line to add latency.
Think at the time the Ps5 SSD speed of 5.5 gig raw/9 gig compressed.
That is the big deal. The least amount of latency adding steps, custom controller, and extremely fast SSD. Harnessing the power of 9 gig per sec.
When utilized correctly we could see new genres not possible to now, better open worlds, etc.

Loading, and fast travel especially, is comically fast when you can’t even read a tool tip on the screen halfway through before the game reloads. Definitely a massive quality of life improvement that I can’t imagine being without.
