I'm more than a bit excited for the new Steam Deck! A portable Pc that acts like a switch? Sign me up!

In my eagerness I started going through some of my favorite games and lowering the settings to get an idea on what it will be like to game on this thing. Of course, I know it will look better on the actual machine. But I took a few screenshots and this was my favorite of the bunch.

I think it's a cool concept but it's not ready for prime time. The x86 chip will eat through the battery too quickly, it won't wake from sleep that well either.

I think the switch will remain the only relevant handheld. I'm curious how nintendo will follow up the switch, do you think they will copy the steam deck? Or do you think Nintendo and Nvidia will resume their unholy alliance and have lightning strike twice and release a games console that captures the imagination again?

I mean at this point It's proven Nintendo can sell hardware that was outdated 4 years ago when it came out, for profit, and continue to sell out because they put a bright screen on it. I honestly expect the next switch to have very underwhelming specs that's barely an upgrade an it will still sell like crazy. If it even comes close to the steam decks current specs, I would be surprised.

I'm more excited about using the steam deck to play the hundreds of indie games I've never touched in my library than using it for AAA games.

I certainly appreciate that Village was optimized to run on old tech. My 2015 gaming PC is definitely starting to show its age.

The pixelation reminds me of old GBA ports or movie licensed games, where they'd use low-res screenshots from the console versions/movie for storytelling purposes, rather than animate cutscenes.
