- I understand it if you finally want to play HL2 or GTA5 on the go, but for emulation?
-
Ok so not everyone who likes PC games has the most overpowered beast machine to ever exist on the planet. Believe it or not, the hardware in this thing can be considered an upgrade for some people, such as myself.
Additionally, speaking to my own experience, my PC is not in a super comfortable place in my house. A sunny room in the back of my home that is also a shared play space for my cats. The ability to play my Steam library from a much more comfortable location in my home is extremely appealing. Moving my PC to another room is not possible. My home, while being a house, is not terribly large.
There are plenty of reasons someone might find this little Switch wannabe appealing. Not just emulation capability.
ID: h5ob79kID: h5oq92dthey have something like that called steam link, but the problem is that you have to have a pc to stream the game from
ID: h5oniz7This! I even use a ps4 or Xbox controller with a phone clip, great with big s20+ screen
ID: h5n9x6zI have a switch and exclusively is it not docked. I just like playing games not on a tv or monitor if that makes sense?
ID: h5nvpdpSame. I have alot of games on my ps4 and xbox but almost never play them because it’s simply more comfortable to play on my switch.
ID: h5oh0nkI'd say with the hardware it has, it makes the switch look like a shitty option. Unless the Nintendo exclusives are a must have for yo
family. If I didn't have a good PC I'd take this anyday as an alternative.ID: h5oucqjI think by now people should know to not look at Nintendo's hardware based on specs. They haven't tried competing on specs for decades now. On top of the fact this isn't a typical product launch for the Steam Deck and the Switch has been out a while. It's pretty easy to look at the game libraries. And it doesn't have to be an eithe
situation. You can have both. AND Considering the Switch sales numbers, a giant percentage of people who are going to get the Steam Deck already own a Switch.ID: h5op6oxI’m fortunate enough to have a nice rig, but I invested in performance, not comfort. That being said, my desk is also in a really bad spot and I’d absolutely love to be able to play at any spot in the house, as I please. I’m super excited to pick one of these up
-
I want it for on the go gaming overall, not just emulation
ID: h5o195gIt seems a lot of people have done no research and the steam deck and are real eager to shit on it.
ID: h5och28Good freaking lord, you couldn't be more right about that.
-
How does one emulate games on a 2ds?
ID: h5ncilmHomebrew Firmware. 3DS, DS and GBA plays natively.
-
Ah yes, PCSX2 or RPCS3 on 2DS...
ID: h5o80sxShit, I can't even get SNES emulation running smooth on my New3DS
ID: h5ortdvIf you're using the Libretro SNES emulator under RetroArch, it's not very good. I downloaded a version of SNES9X for the system and it works great.
-
The hate posts are excluding people like me who don't have a gaming rig and just...want one of these. Nothing wrong with wanting something.
ID: h5ojjegRight?! I just want one for when I'm away from my desktop.
ID: h5otbpaSame energy as people who buy Switch OLED despite already owning a Switch, haha
-
Can you emulate on ios?
ID: h5nort6Yes there is a web app called eclipse that doesn’t need jailbreak
ID: h5nmg32I've been playing Pokemon on jailbroken iOS since like 2011. I'm sure legit emulators exist there now.
ID: h5obq4nTry Delta using AltStore. Works great for GBA, SNES, N64 and also DS.
-
This can play any current games and emulate others on the go, not just emulate.
Also, it comes with your Steam library and access to sales on any PC store, so no need to pay $60 for new games.
For any PC gamer with a minimal Steam library requiring portability, it is a no brainer.
-
A lot of emulation still doesn’t work properly on android or iOS, so I get it. Would be cool if Yuzu, Ryujinx or Cemu runs on this.
-
Bruh, the 2DS...
-
Another brainlet argument from a copium addict. 2DS XL can't emulate PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii, WiiU and Switch while Steam Deck can. Steam Deck can run what 2DS XL emulate at a better frame rate and on a larger screen with more resolution. Steam Deck can also emulate 2DS XL itself.
-
I bet you haven't tried PS2 emulation on Android
ID: h5njuqtAny games with more than 4 buttons and require good coordination/reflexes are a pain in mobile.
ID: h5nlaqgWell tbf, the Razer Kishi controller is nice for playing games on Android, but some consoles like PS2 have better Windows/Linux ports.
-
Honesty I just want to play PC games with my friends and not be stuck at 15-20 frames per second on the lowest graphics settings but I'll wait until it actually releases to see if it's worth the small fortune it's going to be worth in Australia.
-
My PSP works great as a portable emulator!
-
Your 2DS can run God of War 3? Damn, that's some next level modding.
-
Keep in mind your whole steam library will be made portable with this thing
-
TF? What comparable games are you emulating on a 2ds? lmao
This is a joke right?
-
Glad these memes are dying down
-
I own an Anbernic RG351M, it does it's job perferctly well, and I still pre-ordered the Steam Deck. 90% of the reason I pre-ordered it is because I want to put retroarch on it and have a larger more powerful device for more demanding emulation. The other 10% is the fact I can also play Rocket League in bed.
-
Well my phone can't run ryujinx so...
-
For me it's HL2 and Portal 2 on the go on the same machine as We <3 Katamari and BotW (which I already have on a switch)
-
You're basing it off your own experiences only. This machine will be great for a lot of people.
-
yeah but the steam deck is better than 90% of phones.I guess you only look at expensive phones? bc they are the only ones that can emulate and even then a pc of same price can emulate way better and buying expensive phones is a waste anyways.
-
I paid 350£ to play PC stuff mate not Nintendo shovelware.
-
Almost fair enough... because you really need a strong PC to run Switch and PS3 games, also Cube/Wii, PS2 and N64 emulation only works well on PC. But besides those consoles, you can emulate pretty much everything else on a phone these days
-
Can phone play skyrim tho?
-
while 2DS can emulate most of it, at least the Deck can emulate, well, maybe even rpcs3. who fucking knows? but im confident that this thing can run PS2 emulators.
-
You can’t emulate on an iPhone because developing for iOS is a nightmare and running non-appstore apps is a separate nightmare
Edit: I’d love to have an android but I’m stuck with an iPhone for now
-
You cant emulate Switch or PS2 on 2DS...
-
"Do you guys not have phones?" That guy has never owned an apple iphone. gotta jailbreak and shit to get that enjoyment.
ID: h5oc8n7Huh, no. Maybe about 3 years ago, but there’s no need to jailbreak in order to be able to emulate handheld consoles.

You should give steam remote play a go.
A smart phone and a razer kishi is awesome.
