[3600+5700xt] HZD: when I run benchmark on ultra settings with TAA and FidelityFX CAS 100%, I get 70s fps. But I always get these weird outlines like you see in the image. The screenshot came out foggy for some reason. I tried messing with fidelity bar & Radeon Sharpening but they don’t go away

Those weird outlines are sharpening artifacts (sometimes called ringing or haloing), you're sharpening the image too much. Sharpening isn't a magic "make quality better" filter, you need to find a sweet spot where it doesn't cause more problems than it solves.

So should I not use radeon sharpener with the Fidelity FX CAS? and just try out the latter?

I would turn off the Radeon sharpener and just use the in-game FidelityFX sharpening.

Try adjusting the CAS percentage to a lower value like 25% or 50% too and see what looks best.

turn of radeon image sharpening all together and just use CAS . If you play a game that doesnt have CAS then set a profile in the radeon software specifically for that game using sharpening. IMO.

TAA is creating blur, CAS is sharpening the blur

This can be a result of combining FidelityFX CAS with Radeon Image Sharpening. I would leave RIS off in games with CAS support.

I did do that now. When I crank it up above 20%, The game basically starts looking like The Witcher. And the leaves in the distance look weird. I don't know if that's how they're supposed to look or is that unusual

Foggy is because its taken in hdr

ID: h60kacu

Why is that tho? Like during the bench it was fine

ID: h60kly4

Because you need to convert tone mapping from hdr to sdr and there is no screenshot tool that makes it on the fly. So all hdr screenshots look washed out

Looks like it's way overcompensating for sharpening, if you find out how to lower it please ping me with a reply.

So basically I turned off the AMD sharpening. Then after relaunching the game I put the CAS bar off. That significantly made it better. I then played around a little bit more and chose to go with 5%. It's not completely gone tho

Lol.. that happens because it’s over sharpened.. that’s what CAS does, and you set it to 100%.

It's probably just TAA artifacts oversharpened by casfx or Radeon sharpening or both at the same time.

Welcome to post 2018 games where TAA is king and rendering shit at lower res to be fixed up by ghosted TAA. I miss the old sharp and slightly jaggy images of the past.

Textures set to anything more than Default ALSO applies a sharpening filter for some dumb reason.

So: Keep textures to Default (Medium), disable driver RIS and only use CAS in-game in sensible capacity: 30-50% maybe.

ID: h61c56m

But won't that decrease the quality of the texture itself?

ID: h61c9l3

Nope, textures quality in HZD doesn't increase past Default/Medium. They only add sharpening to them on High and Ultra.
