- Mario dies on the cover?
-
The foot overlap is different and leads me to believe in the cover the stone is background.
ID: h6i8rs2ID: h6iqznqIt’s the wall glitch. Those cover art designers knew about this glitch back then. Impressive!
ID: h6ivvevPOGGERS!!
ID: h6ixp7nMario is even angled upwards on the cover and they leveled him back to 0 degrees for the meme example.
ID: h6ixwcnor he did a wall clip.
-
Miyamoto: Help me design the game cover for Super Mario.
Designer: Okay, what's your favorite part of the game?
Miyamoto: My favorite part is how bad the players are at it.
Designer: Done!
-
it’s just to prepare you for dying a hundred times before making it to the end of the game
-
Nobody who has ever played a Mario game hasn't died in it.
ID: h6iackcI didn't as a child because I never got past, like, 1-3 lol
ID: h6ibmrjYou didn't get past 1-3 because ... you died?
ID: h6ixquoI played Mario World on the Gameboy, once... should I have died...?
-
Mario fucking dies
-
Mario falls into hell
-
I never noticed the lava beneath him but I always did wonder why he was running straight into a wall on the cover.
-
Miyamoto literally said he doesn't...
-
If you’ve watched enough Summoning Salt, you’d know that this Mario is glitching into a sub-pixel and probably will start running inside the wall.
Worst come to worst he’ll will just jump off the wall and get a PB instead.
-
Slaps the Nintendo, "You can fit so much dying into this baby!"
ID: h6ig2zbAlways have respect for the classics
-
Old as shit post.

ben is a hoe
ID: h6iy9m8One of the oldest reposts in gaming history, I think. This was 1983 when it came out, and I'm sure it didn't take more than a week before someone went, "Hey! Mario dies on the cover!". We didn't get to share this in image format to the entire world for like another decade, though.
-
It was always an omen.
-
Could be jumping off of an enemy that ran off the side
-
Maybe they wanted it to look as if he was climbing to save himself form lava a la Indiana Jones.
-
thats funny
-
The cake is a lie
-
Spoiler alert! Sheesh!
-
Directed by Kevin Smith?
-
The cover of Bigfoot for NES was an actual picture of a Monster Truck.
-
I always thought it was funny how someone rotated Mario so he's level and not angled upward like on the cover, showing clearly he's running uphill.
If they had extended the stone background behind him on the cover, you wouldn't have seen him very well. It was for higher contrast.
But seriously, they actually rotated him to to make up this silly meme.
-
Fun fact: Nintendo games have actual gameplay on the cover, as other game systems at the time were accused of setting false expectations
