- Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank Seem Made To Be Platinumed
-
I just want rockstar to separate Rdr2 online trophies from the single player so I can complete it
-
I wish all studios would make trophy lists like insomniac. Platinums should be achievable. Trophies like finishing on the hardest difficulty or ones that require tonnes of tedious grinding really kill it for me.
ID: h6o2ypmID: h6o3gijYeah that was a good one. The valkaries were tough, but achievable
ID: h6nvzagI think there is gotta be a part of both. Hard platinums and "easy" platinums because honestly spiderman, gow, ratchet & some others are made as adventures to be enjoyed, with collectibles and side quests to complete or grind. Meanwhile titles like super meat boy, doom or crash bandicoot are made to be enjoyable casually but become a hell of skill mastery to fully complete everything and get the platinum. So each game trophies should appeal the playerbase they are for, not set a standart of "every platinum should be comfortably achievable".
ID: h6npjikI’m still on my 12 year quest to get the platinum for Star Ocean: The Last Hope. I gave up on PS3 because it would freeze up too much but I started it back up once it rereleased on PS4.
I’m finally only a couple weeks away from completing my 1st playthough, the completionist playthrough. After that it’s only 2 more to go on different difficulties, or 8 more if I want to tackle each character on a separate playthrough instead of just mindlessly grinding out Battle Trophies on endgame enemies.
I figure in another couple years I’ll finally have it!
-
Platinum trophies should be fun to do, not tedious grinds over and over or even worse, multiplayer trophies. Seems like Insomniac understood that.
-
The annoying thing about Ratchet and Clank is that Disco Weapon trophy where you have to make one of each enemy dance. Problem is there is no trackable list making it infuriating to get. Less trophies like that please!
-
I think the article is talking about Rift Apart, but yeah that trophy was the worst.
-
I loved getting the trophies for Spidey and Ratchet. But one of the trophies is glitched for me on Rift Apart so I never got the platinum.
-
Which one?
-
The craiggerbear trophy. I’ve collected them all twice. And it still didn’t get completed
-
Spiderman platinum was bad though. Stopping the same 4 crimes 20 times each wasnt fun at all. Side quests were lame. Hideouts were essentially the same thing over and over again. Collecting stuff off buildings also isn’t compelling. The game did a lot of things well but it’s overrated.
-
I thought spidermans plat was very easy. Somethings were very repetitive. But as far as platinums go very simple.
-
Agreed, definitely easy. By bad I meant not very fun to complete.
-
The ratchet and clank one was way too easy imo. Should’ve involved the weapons and upgrades which is what makes the game fun. But after I did the weapons, it felt really anticlimactic
-
Rift Apart was recently patched so there is a missable trophy. Now requires another whole playthrough to around the middle of the game. No longer an easy plat for the casual gamer that doesn’t research beforehand.
-
? What Trophy
-
Shifty Character. There are two crystals that are optional on the rails on Blizar Prime. The door to re-enter the rails closes for good, but you used to be able to get back relatively easily by going off to the left of the door and jumping over it. Now it’s been patched and there is an invisible wall over the door preventing jumps over it. I’ve seen a YouTube video where it’s still theoretically possible to get over it by jumping off an even higher platform, but I couldn’t do it and I’m not a casual gamer.
-
both were fun to platinum without making the game feel tedious
-
Jump force online trophies r pain
-
Whoever platinum Star Ocean 4, I salute and give you my outmost respect as a gamer
-
I like difficulty trophies. Sony needs to bring those back
-
Honestly I think it’s good that some games have somewhat easy platinums because it allows the players that aren’t too their players to get the platinums and feel accomplished
-
Fuck kotaku.

These things are an absolute blight on modern gaming. When the idea first popped up, it felt like it could be a throwback to high score tables in arcades - if you've got the trophy/your name is there, other people know you have skill.
Now far too many of them are just participation trophies. It's like giving all the football teams a gold medal just for showing up to the tournament. If everyone has it, it has no meaning.
You'll also find complete idiots like the turbo button Virtua Fighter players online trying to get to 1,200 fights. It's a bullshit trophy, but it ruins the experience for other people online (because you're fighting someone that isn't actually playing the game, they just have a button stuck down). Secondly, if you see someone who's played 1,200 fights you would think "they probably know how to play this game", but no, most of these guys have barely played the game at all.
I've been offered money to log into people's accounts and do trophies for them because I've got some genuinely difficult trophies on my profile and I'm like "what's the fucking point? It's like cheating on a test - if you can't do it yourself, why go around telling people you can?".

Thanks for copy and pasting my own comment back to me...
-
My first reading of the title was that it was about "platinum hits".
My response: well yeah ... in time ... obviously
-
All platinums should be designed to be very attainable. If a game doesn't have 25% of players with a platinum, then the platinum was much too onerous.
Most games I don't even look at trophies because the platinum is always locked behind some ridiculous bullshit.
-
Same here. I have never changed the way I play a game just for a trophy. Whatever trophies I get is from playing the game naturally. Once I finish a game, I rarely replay it and move on to the next one in my backlog.
-
First platinum trophy I ever got and I've had my account since the PS3 days
It's manageable and generally you'll end up doing most of it through the main game.
-
Games aimed primarily at children and bored mums are easy? That's crazy.
-
Ooohhh, edgy. R&C has never been aimed at kids and as much as I don't care about Spider-Man (or any Marvel characters), he's one of the biggest fictional characters ever created.
-
Yeah Spider-Man was my first ever platinum in years of gaming. Super easy. Ratchet and MM look easy too but I don't have time to do much side content anymore. Persona 5 Royal's platinum was also pretty easy.
-
Do they have the Groovitron trophy in R&C? That one was annoying in the 2016 game
-
Both these games have a very balanced trophy system, same as miles morales. They are engaging, adding to the experience and at least some of them give you an advantage.
-
I feel like these game and games like God Of war where the way to get platinum is just play the whole game, side quests and all and can all be done in one play through are the most fun to try to platinum. 40-50h games where you have to play it 2-3 times more (Like Judgement) or online content (like RDR2) just makes me not care about platinum or even the trophies at all.
I like trying for trophies because I sometimes do things I wouldn’t have cared about otherwise and not just the story, like with the Valkyries with GoW for example. I would probably had given up way before if it hadn’t been the last thing I had to do to get platinum.
-
God of war had a perfect trophy list imo
-
You mean cause it’s a game? Yea…
-
personally i hate games with multiplayer and or difficulty based trophies that would prevent me from getting the plat. i really really really hate when a game goes play this on butt rape mode where enemies do 300% damage and you do 1000% less and you die and have to start over. nope i will pass on trying that (FFVII Remake is just 2 fucking trophies away too)
having trophies that feel impossible is great and all bc challenge and shit but most sony first party titles for the last few years have been made i think to intentionally be more accessible to plat since it would encourage gamers to play them longer or to play them a second time or what not instead of just playing it and getting what you get and calling it a day
-
I remember hearing something about Sony pushing for their first party or exclusive releases to have easier trophy lists.
-
Ghost of Tsushima had an awesome Platinum experience as well. You just… play the game and do all the stuff you discovered. By the time I got credits I only needed like 2 obscure hidden trophies that I was able to get in 5 minutes with a google.
-
I just platinumed Spiderman too, the suit/gadget upgrade was a bit annoying because of the challenge token but thanks to extra content in DLC I managed to do it.
I am not that trophy hunter and hardly check all the requirements during playing/before plaging I was feeling so good because it was close to achieve it after finishing the game. And yeah, if platinum is easily doable and the game is fun, I will go for it.
However, what is the best from Spiderman is that I can skip QTE and Puzzle content, I love this option as an adult gamer.
-
Rift Apart was one of those games that felt like getting the platinum actively made the game better. Getting all of those items and weapons made the final stretch of the game a delight, even if having to start the game over again to get those last weapons was a bit pointless.
-
True. Im currently 100% spiderman remastered after i 100% spiderman ps4 and mile morales. Its just so fun to keep playing those games long after finishing it. My cousin loves miles morales and has beat the story twice now and just loves swinging as miles for hours.
-
This may be an unpopular opinion but I'm not a fan of this approach. It makes the plat not feel as special if I can earn it without even going out of my way to check the trophy list. The reason the Crash 4 platinum felt so special to me for instance was both the skill it required that you couldn't circumvent through things like easy modes but also that 0.4% completion rate. It's ok not to care for stuff like that obviously and it's not an achievement that means anything in the real world. It's just that those games where skill and effort matters always end up being more fun and memorable to me.
-
Had a PS4 since 2018 and a PS5 since launch and I don’t have a single platinum. Never cared about trophies at all.
-
Imagine caring about trophies instead of playing the game to have fun.
-
The original Spiderman is actually a bit of a chore to platinum. Completing all those crimes is exhausting.. I've been doing it in bursts over the last year.
As an aside, could Kotaku maybe fit some more adverts on their site? Im sure they could have squeezed a few more inbetween each sentence to really maximize revenue and irritation.
-
That's what happens when you have VC herbs take over a once great media company. Fuck I hate what has happened to the gizmodo sites
-
Kotaku Top 1 Journalism in the clown category.
Did they seriously need to write something so obvious?

God of war is my perfect platinum trophy list. Some grindy with the Ravens don’t have to change the difficulty but still have a hard challenge in there with the Valkyries.
