Commercial Notebooks

is it? then why Ryzen pro are only limited to 15w U series?

intel has their vpro on both H & U series APU.

Then why Ryzen pro are only limited to 15w U series?

Business in general likes longer battery life, it also makes designing a thermal solution easier for partners. Beyond that, most business use cases don't exactly need high-end performance beyond what the 15w models provide.

There's a small segment of the market that does of course, but they also tend to be the ones that manage their own gear, sometimes even making the user responsible for it. Hence a suite like v-pro isn't that much a priority.

Did you just diss the entire existence of the whole Precision and Zbook lineup? Also almost the entire Thinkpad P series?

There is not a single international market precision or zbook with Ryzen. Also not a single high end 15” Ryzen thinkpad.

As an engineer, I and all my colleagues do CAD work and moderate simulations on Intel H series powered laptops. I don't think this is rare at all; many technical fields benefit from more than 15W but still enjoy the portability of a laptop.

Yes it's a bit loud when doing anything CPU or GPU intensive, but I'd rather my work computer be loud than slow.

INB4: "Why not focus on your next architecture" xD

Blah, blah, blah, I had to buy an ASUS with old 4000 ryzen and worse screen than in other countries or Intel models. Keep focusing more.

I suspect there is major strongarming and/or bribing of OEMs going under the hood, from the blue side.

Not premium enough to retain the whole 32MB of L3 cache because they have to save die space, I suppose. Tiger lake H offers 24MB and a 190mm2 10nm die.

Tradeoffs for power efficiency. I'm sure they wanted to keep the large cache of desktop Zen 3, but SRAM eats power.

Being a monolithic chip also has advantages as IMC isn't one hop away on a separate IO die. For MCM desktop Zen 3, it's more important to keep data within the chiplets.

Most architectures start TLB thrashing around 6-8MB of data anyway, incurring large latency penalties even before entire L3 is used.

The advantage from being monolithic is clearly insufficient to close the gap between 5700G and 5800x.

Good to know your AMD hate boner is not exclusive to GPUs.

Not very thorough post history digging on your part if "AMD hate boner" is what you are able to come up with.

Now that they've said it publicly (as we knew they would), maybe we can stop pretending like AMD focusing on the higher end at the expense of the mid-range is an effective accusation to use in an attempt to somehow "shame" the company into not doing it?

The way some of you dumbasses were spitting out the "they've abandoned the mid-range" from between your teeth, one might've thought it was supposed to be some kind of a secret or a shocking revelation or something. Newsflash: it wasn't a surprise to anyone but you, and there was never anything special about it. Your whining does absolutely nothing, unless you've invented a device that converts bitching into fab capacity.

Keep focusing more until Amd can be found in a Thinkpad X1 or P1.
