- Just started playing The Outer Worlds and it's a bit too real for my liking...
-
Currently playing this game and a lot of it is... pretty damn real with its topics. Worker explotiation, people blindly loyal to corporations. I'm digging it
ID: h7trn0nID: h7tx59aBetter than nature, diet toothpaste.. Appetite suppressant for the working class!
ID: h7ut2oqIt’s not the best choice, it’s Spacer’s Choice.
Holy fuck you got me to chime a slogan for a nonexistent company.
ID: h7uuxzbYou have tried the best, now try the rest, Spacers choice!
ID: h7u2ijiYep, the whole game is an anarcho-capitalist hellscape, was fun to play a game like that but I would certainly not want that in real life
ID: h7urzo8People simply forgot to read the fine print.
ID: h7ufibiBoy do I have some bad news for you.
ID: h7ugf5dI enjoyed it, but I also felt a little like the insane degree of capitalist inspired fascism was silly. I know it's part of the gag, but it was so over the top it was a bit eye-rolling most of the time. Still a ton of fun though.
ID: h7uh032Do you even watch the news? Ever heard of a "company town"? If anything, they didn't push the gag far enough, 'cause almost all of it seems perfectly plausible to me.
ID: h7ui8t4It got a bit too silly for my taste. The corporations were just evil to be evil and there wasn't even any real rationale or benefit to it. Similarly, both the employees and the supposedly system dominating companies were both incredibly incompetent. It just seemed a bit like shallow lazy edgy high schooler anti corporation/capitalism writing. Compare it to something like Bioshock or any number of games that deal with social or political issues that handled the issue in a much more believable, deep, and introspective way.

man that text is small
ID: h7ut1yzThis was my issue when playing the game too. Even setting it at the largest font it was still quite small.

Anyone else love the setting and story but couldn't push past the 2008 fallout 3 gameplay? Don't get me wrong it's a great game I just can't help thinking I would have loved/finished it if it came out in 2012. I haven't gotten past the second place you visit cos the general gameplay is just boring now after playing 400+ hours of the same exact thing in the fall outs.
ID: h7u5u4tIts a great game. But, I feel you on this. Especially since the first real mission/decision is almost identical. Which town do you want to save and where does your general morality lie.
ID: h7tz4lcyour complaint is fairly valid, i love it but then i have 1000 plus hours in new vegas(heavily modded over the years with periodic reinstalls) but i see your point, what appeals to me probably bores you
ID: h7uep4sI'm a huge New Vegas fan and I couldn't get into Outer Worlds
ID: h7umhxkFor me it was less the gameplay and more that the stories they were telling were all very samey. Corporation did this hilariously evil thing. Then the game definitely seemed to think the "best" way to complete almost every quest was some sort of both sides-y meet in the middle compromise that got old by the end.
ID: h7uocftYeah I was really hyped for the idea of “New Vegas in space”. But after hours of looting the exact same weapons and armor and fighting the same monsters at like 25 frames per second, I put it down and have not returned
ID: h7u8lr3Yeah, I've never been able to play all the way through because it does get pretty dull. The RPG elements are there, but the combat & even the weapons/armor both feel really bland.
ID: h7ujlgoI was digging the weapons until mk2 guns started dropping, and I realized I was always just going to be chasing the biggest numbers on my gear.
ID: h7ud25jI always tell people that it isn't Fallout or some space simulator, it's actually a comedic Deus Ex Human Revolution in space. City hubs are upgraded a bit and can be done a lot less linearly, dialogue is improved, weapons are better, but the perks and stealth kinda suck.
ID: h7uhtzmEhh I feel that is an insult to HRs quality to compare the two.
ID: h7ufpjxI wasn't really bothered by the gameplay, it was entertaining enough. I found the actual writing to be pretty bad though. Boring story, little too on the nose with the social commentary for my liking. Didn't care for any of the characters either, so after like 7 hours or so I just kinda dropped it.
ID: h7ufs3pYeah, i'm on 22lvl and it crossed my mind several times to just plain murder all the factions, member by member and call it a day.
ID: h7uqd8rSame
ID: h7urn1lYeah I agree on this too, I fell for some of the hype after reading an article about the game online. I played through much of the first part of the game, but just kinda stopped. I was never really a fan of the Fallout games and this just plays too much like them. I mean, I guess it was to be expected from the team that built New Vegas, but despite everyone raving about that game, I was never into that one either. The games always felt so…static and lifeless to me. Maybe not so much in some of the combat, but the dialogue sections…man…

It's a great game, and I love that a second one is coming out!
ID: h7t2uknNice, when?
ID: h7taw2mYou should see the trailer. Love the humor they have.
-
Bold of you to presume people are just forgetting to do that.
ID: h7sxtw8At the height of the pandemic I was in a grocery store and as I walking down an aisle, at the other end, I see two people and one of them takes off her mask to cough directly in to her hand with these really wet coughs. She sounded like she was recovering from a respiratory illness. And continued her conversation with her friend with her mask on her chin.
ID: h7sykq1I’m just gonna take a WILD guess and say you live in the US.
-
Based on his look and first name I wonder if this is a mass effect reference?
-
God I Love The Outer Worlds.
-
Shook someone's hand today. 9 people died.
ID: h7uklnkOnly 9? Lucky.. could have been much worse
-
Kinda just gets repetitive and boring after a while
ID: h7tq05wIf this gets boring and repetitive after a while, can’t imagine what you say about Bethesda’s RPGs…
ID: h7txa28They were neat at the time. Can't stay at that level of gameplay for almost 15 odd years though. Doesn't matter how compelling the story is if gameplay is a slog.
-
Great game
-
It’s a great game!
-
It’s also boring as fuck and shitty.
-
The greatest product of Obsidian for me, always loved the work of this studio but this game is a treat !
-
Yikes forgot about this
-
Most overrated game of that year
-
Screw that game. It was awesome but the released version had a bug where your save would corrupt after a certain point. The last save I was able to load was only halfway through the game and I was nearly at the end. Never got to finish it, and now I never really want to buy a game from them again.
ID: h7tprflBut have played Bethesda games, though, right? If so, what the hell? Why that shit gets a pass, but not this goodness?
ID: h7tv9xvI've personally never encountered that. Bugs, sure, but a corrupted save is pretty bad.

outer worlds
I sleep
outer wilds
REAL SHIT
-
Highly over hyped game that didnt come near meeting expectations.
-
That's on people not managing their expectations, this was made by obsidian without a larger company backing, it was never gunna be AAA new Vegas in space. But IMO it was a solid game
-
Didn't come near?
I thought it was great and did what it set out to do very well. Perfect? No. But hardly as bad as you make it sound.
-
Yeah im currently playing thru it for my first time since its on sale. I avoided it due to not having great reviews. Dont know why i waited so long. Its not supposed to be some huge, fleshed out game with 1000 worlds to explore and millions of people to meet. And tbh im enjoying it more than i have with some AAA games i have
-
Stop hyping games you morons.
-
I really like that Outer Worlds didn't feed you the positive outcomes for the different struggles, but they were there if you thought about it and worked for it. There is a right answer in every situation and the way the game acted I didn't think there would be.
-
Theres a dialogue line with this dude where he implies your hands aren’t clean and you can say something about “Seeing these hands up close” that absolutely kills me.
-
I thought this was something from Dishonored until I read the title, but honestly it'd fit right in that game as well.
-
Just finished it and both DLCs today. Gameplay wise it can get dull at times but the writing is fantastic, funny, thoughtful and well worth the journey.
-
I loved this game
-
i really wanted to get into this but i just cant.
-
Reminds me I still have to finish the game. For some reason I always end up crouching everywhere and picking up all kinds of junk in these games, but I never quite make my way through the whole storyline.
-
I enjoyed the game but it felt too much like a fallout copy, yes.
-
never played outer worlds and every time i hear about it i just get slightly annoyed because people keep confusing it with outer wilds which is a game i love
-
I wish there were more companions ...
-
Fun game, but it felt very short
-
Ah..yes..plague...
-
And don't be a looter.
-
So everyone says. Until someone forgets to cough into their elbow, and then 2% of us are all dying of plague.
-
Wow…
-
It’s such a great game! started it a few days ago aswell!
-
Zach Woods cameo?
-
Someone making video games clearly sees the future as is
-
Shit just got real…
