I finally defeated emerald weapon on disc 2

Did you have the Underwater Materia, or did you grind until you were strong enough to defeat it before you drowned?

ID: h8fzv5pWith a character's ultimate weapon, yes. The damage for their weapon is based on Max HP for some characters (like Cloud) and others Max MP. I think Barret's is based on the total AP of the equipped materia? Something like that.
Anyway, yeah, once you get some ultimate weapons you can start doing crazy amounts of damage pretty easily.

ID: h8fl4v1He is, but you gotta hope ultimately weapon doesn't hover over midgar. Just run into him above the gold saucer continent and cast kotr and you should be good though.

Where did you grind to max levels in disc 2 surely it took an age? We're talking hundreds of hours of grinding?
ID: h8f3y70In that sunken ship or plane idk what it is I grinded there also I was on emulater so I had speed up so that helped too.

Mimic
4x Attack
Underwater Materia
Basically, it was Cloud/Cid/RedXII that went against that monster. And I beat him with < 5 minutes left.
The reward you get after beating him basically changed the entire game since you effectively get MASTER materia

Transforming Vincent for the Weapon fight, that's a bold move. And nicely done. What was your strategy?
ID: h8f6cvkOk so kotr spam, omnislash spam healing spam I was able to use kotr 2 times with w summon then I just healed attacked used limits when I could healed again attacked and used limits again and then I just did this like 15 times also everyone had counter attack materia so that helped too

I remember the feeling of doing this the 1 time i did do it. I had a 15 year gap from when i was a kid till i greq up and grinded ff7 out again. And when i beat emerald and ruby.. i almost cried.. lol

Imho, Emerald is pretty easy compared to Ruby.
ID: h8gdcbvRuby has a cheese strategy that works, though (W-Summon Diabolos/KotR attached to HP absorb, then Mime until the boss dies - but go in with two characters KOed before the fight starts). Emerald requires more work.

What level was your team at? My team of Cloud, Vincent, and Red XIII is at level 70-80 and I still can’t beat Emerald Weapon.

ID: h8f6b4qYou can beat it at that level with a good strategy and equipment. Two caveats to that. Some good equipment is missable, for example the Zeidrich can only be obtained by stealing from Rude on disc 2. And some strategies won't work on releases with the Magic Defense bug, which includes the PS1 release (unless you patch the iso).

It's been so long ago that I did that... I cannot even remember how anymore.. but I can remember Emerald Weapon from FF14 which was not long ago.

Is there much difference between doing it on Disc 2 or 3? After you get the submarine it's pretty much all the same (unless you can be bothered to train in the lower depths of Northern Crater but who's got time for that?)

Congrats! Also, I still find curious that FF7 of all games actually had a barrier meter (for measuring how long your protects and shells last presumably).

im gonna say something ppl will hate me for: i think ff7 on ps1 looks awful. and no im not some cod kid, im literally (re)playing ff1-6 at the moment and they look gorgeous. that pixel art is so beautiful. and i might give the original ff7 a try on emulator (really need a fast forward lol) but man. the polygones... idk. they are ugly to me.

I got the materia I am pretty sure you can do it without it but you need to be an materia enginer for that also you need some disc 3 materia too.
