- How i got through many a childhood road trip. Still turns on today.

That JP game was so good.
ID: h8kpo8gID: h8kr0b6I honestly can't remember but I'm sure there are youtube videos. I played it when I was like 5-8 years old so I doubt I ever actually beat the whole game. I remember bits and pieces of it though. Good luck!
ID: h8kwqbpYou mean the T Rex? Use the flame pillars to knock down the skeleton above on top of her.
I just face tanked every hit and used first aid meds... I could never figure out how to dodge him. That's something I wish I knew.
ID: h8l2wzfThe intro to that game gives me chills.
ID: h8labdrThe game gear and Sega Genesis versions were very different, but I do remember playing that game with my cousin on his sega, and it was also really awesome. Different game entirely though 🙂
ID: h8kti5tLoved the pterodactyl boss fight jumping in the trees and shoot rockets at it

How many batteries did you take on your road trips hahaha?
ID: h8kbysmIt's all about the adapters. The car one looked like a nuclear sub. Only needed to bring 2 car batteries every trip too.
ID: h8l6fquI used to play the game gear on the floor while it was plugged in with my neck hurting so bad from the angle. Sonic was worth it though.
ID: h8kg0enGame Gear had an awesome official power adapter. I don’t remember ever using batteries with my Game Gear. My problem was that i couldn’t look at the screen for more than half an hour in the car
ID: h8kpebiWhat'd that thing take? Like 6 AAs?
ID: h8ktvj9Yes, 6 AAs, and they lasted for about 45 minutes of play time.
ID: h8k80p5all of them
ID: h8ki8sfBatteries dead by the title screen
ID: h8ljrsrthis guy game gears

aaaand you need to change the 6 AA batteries again. I don't even think I could beat the sonic game because my game gear would run out of batteries. RIP. still loved it though 🙂
ID: h8kd7a6Haha. My father would also tell me if I played with the sound off the batteries would last longer. There was a man who knew how to find moments of semi peace and quiet.
ID: h8kr1ywbahahahha smart
ID: h8lc8djI'm 32 years of age and I've just now realised my parents liedto me about this.
-
This honestly was one of the best consoles ever.
-
This was way ahead of its days. It was directly competing with the black and white original game boy. Loved my game gear.
-
We used to have an ac/dc power converter in the car and a small tv between the front seats to play SNES, N64
-
How did you manage a road trip when the batteries ran out after about 12 minutes?
ID: h8kbfxmCigarette adapter and battery pack.
ID: h8kdfuvExactly right. Road trips in the 90s were all about those cigarette light adapters.
-
How did you get the Steam Deck early? /s
ID: h8k677hAlright you got me with that one. Pretty damn funny.
ID: h8kqbrzSurely you mean the Gabe Gear
ID: h8kvd6tNice.
-
I always wanted one of these. When i was in high school. A classmate of mine had a Japanese version of the machine. It was alot of fun to play with . He had Shinobi, Mickey Mouse which i couldn't read the text and I believe Sonic.
-
must have rich parents to be road tripping with a bucket of batteries in the trunk
-
There was a shmup for game gear that absolutely ripped ass. I cannot remember the name for the life of me. Ship was roughly triangular, spent a lot of time shooting robots in lunar orbit. God it was good.
Edit: Halley Wars. So good.
-
Nice! if you ever need parts and stuff for it, handheldlegend.com has lots of stuff, just food for thought
ID: h8kzy6qThats a amazing site! Thanks man.
ID: h8l67mtno worries, i mod game boys when i can, Retromodding.com is pretty cool too but i dont think that they have much game gear stuff. I havent done anything with game gear but i hear that the screens are a PITA to replace...
-
Just gotta make sure you have an endless supply of AA's
-
I had a Gamegear with Sonic 2. I could never get past the hang glider part a couple levels in. No matter how many times I tried I would always just fall and die, the most frustrating thing ever.
-
I always wanted to get the TV antenna adapter for this when I was a kid. I would always see it in commercials or in magazines but could never find it. Anyone have one? If so, did it work?
ID: h8kv668Yeah it worked. But quality was shit when you got good reception and you never got good reception. It was heavily dependent on location. Still, we had it out in the tent and it was fun experiencing it as a kid back then.
-
I played the hell out of sonic on that...
-
i remember having that thing sitting beside my bed so every night after my mother closed my door i could play it for an hour until the batteries died....unless she busted back in and caught me playing it.
-
Amazing that it still turns on considering a fucking fart kills those things.
-
I played the ever loving shit out of World Series Baseball '95 on that bad boy
-
Man... Years ago I had one, my mom got it for me for my birthday. I ended up letting a friend borrow it, but he moved and I never got it back. I had to hide that fact from my mom for so many years, I still hate myself to this day for letting him borrow it.
-
MAybe someone in this thread can help. I have a Game Gear, and it no longer powers with batteries or with cable. What would be a common reason for it to stop working. It's been in a case for the last 10 years and just doesnt wanna work anymore.
-
I loved this game as a kid and when I played it again recently I thought it held up really well
-
Still turns on today for a full 10 minutes. Just like new.
-
Intense nostalgic love for Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya
-
A game gear would not have lasted 1/4 of the way to grandma's house for me.

Can you tell me how is the final dinosaur defeated? My family and I were never able to figure it out. We even beat the lion king several times, but never did get this one.
