ID: h8igthtI work from home so I'm in the fortunate position of being able to respond to the alerts and pick them up - managed to get one for my dad, brother and three friends so far. You had to be super quick back in January to the point that the early drops I wasn't fast enough, but I have noticed that they stay in stock for longer each time.
Today's drops were by far the longest I have seen them in stock. Seem to also be regular fortnightly drops too now, so maybe try to have your wallet ready in two weeks time? 😉
ID: h8iictvYes the demands it's still crazy, but it's like the Series X in my country.
A couple of months ago the Series X would stay an hour or so available, and the PS5 even using the stock alerts most of the times it lasted what seems to be seconds.
Last week I saw an alert of PS5 in stock, send it to a friend 30min later and he manage to buy his, call a friend after and his friend also bought one.
The supply it's still shorter than demand for sure, but we're reaching a point that's a matter of months to see them on the shelves.

So that is now the third batch of consoles Amazon have sold. Argos, Very & Game have had two batches. Every other UK retailer you can think of - including the supermarkets, have had at least one - all over the last 3-4 weeks.
Obviously not "on the shelf waiting to be collected" but there have been so many around in the UK recently it's silly. I secured two for relatives a few weeks ago - but if I'd been minded to, I could have purchased around 5 over this time.

I'd like to add that although Amazon and Walmart both say they don't like 'price gorgers' and offer means to report. And every day I report the same vendors for 'price gorging' and yet after 6 months they're still selling PS5s for $1,000. But now you have to reserve it for $200 and then after approval you pay the remaining $800. Workaround much?

See my comment above, in my country every drop stays up like an hour, which it's huge comparing to a few months back that was almost impossible to complete the purchase even with stock alerts.

I don’t understand how it’s acceptable that consumers still can’t get a console almost a year after release. I get the chip shortage and all but this is bizarre. I hope Sony is doing everything they can because I bet they’re losing a lot of potential money from people deciding to get other consoles or pc instead

I would suggest interested buyers try checking in with stores in person (at a reliable chain of course). You could ask the stores if they are willing to either take a preorder from you for the next available shipment. (A full payment and a unknown date of arrival may be the only problem) Websites are impossible to deal with these days because of the scalper bots.
It's how I got mine after months of refreshing the website and joining unwinnable raffles.

Supply is improving which slowly saturates demand. I think that this will last until Christmas since that's when demand peaks for every game system, but I think early next year you'll be able to just walk into a store and buy one.
