“The PS4 is so loud!”
2 : Anonymous2021/03/07 13:41 ID: gq3goal

its loud even without any dust.

ID: gq3pvkn

Yup, this.

ID: gq7qczb

Yup, I thoroughly cleaned mine. Removed a mountain of dust from the fan and the heatsink and refreshed the thermal paste. Still a jet engine.

Dust does not get this yellow/nasty/disgusting unless you smoke inside.

Problem is hardly the dust/dirt, it's that you should not smoke inside (or at least not near your expensive electronics).

ID: gq383ci

This. I've been restoring old consoles and it's immediately obvious which ones come from smoker households. The trouble is completely removing the smell.

I cleaned out my pro, replaced the thermal paste & applied new thermal pads. First week or two it was quiet as a whisper, even under load, 4 weeks later and it’s just as noisy as it was. PS4’s cooling is just shit & poorly designed.

ID: gq3dhn6

I cleaned it and changed the thermal paste three days ago. It‘s as loud as it was before now and idk what to do about it. I have to open it again some time since I‘m left with a screw I can‘t figure out where I missed to put it back. I wonder if it would run less noisy if you would leave it open on top and don‘t put the shell on it again.

ID: gq3g716

How do you replace thermal paste?

ID: gq32k8o

Same thing happened to me

ID: gq35av7

samee

ID: gq6otjk

Just wear headphones and you wont even hear it

ID: gq3jx5j

Glad I'm not the only one. I've replaced the paste twice now, thinking I must have botched it the first time.

I just ended up shutting off Boost Mode. Didn't make a huge difference though. Still gets loud whenever I'm just accessing the home menu with YouTube suspended in the background :/

ID: gq3nsx9

What brand did you use? If you used some Arctic stuff that people always recommend, thats why. Get some IC Diamond and it won't happen again. Mine has last 6 months now with no issues.

ID: gq350nq

Or you have a lot of dust in your apartment

5 : Anonymous2021/03/07 02:31 ID: gq22w8l

Please tell me how you did this. I really need to clean the fans in my ps4.

It is a ps4 slim, by the way

ID: gq22zao

I imagine you could look this up on YouTube

6 : Anonymous2021/03/07 10:49 ID: gq354be

Is this a kitchen extractor fan? 🙂

7 : Anonymous2021/03/07 08:25 ID: gq2womq

I have a red dead PS4 pro, opened it up last week because it was so loud. Found the thermal paste had pretty much dried up. Cleaned it up, re pasted it and it's whisper quiet again, odd thing was that the fan and heatsink were not dusty at all

ID: gq3bh01

Same with mine. Have the OG PS4 from 2014 and cleaned it bc of the loud noise. Fan and heatsink weren't as bad as I thought for the noise. Now it's quiet but let's see how long after reading other stories.

8 : Anonymous2021/03/07 02:47 ID: gq24jca

Turned it on to make sure it worked and just booting up it was noticeably quieter!

ID: gq3stk8

Stop smoking please

ID: gq4bjev

If you want it whisper quiet, then clean the heat sink. If this is what the fan looks like then the heat sink must be bad

9 : Anonymous2021/03/07 14:17 ID: gq3jvow

Mine looks like the 2nd picture, hell I even bought a new one. Still sounds like a boeing 747 about to take off.

p.s also applied new thermal paste, still sounds like take off lol

10 : Anonymous2021/03/07 14:41 ID: gq3m5h1

looks like u smoke mate

11 : Anonymous2021/03/07 13:15 ID: gq3ejye

Well it was straight out of the box for me. The OG one sounded like a hairdryer building up to a jet engine...

But good on you cleaning it out

12 : Anonymous2021/03/07 13:26 ID: gq3ffs3

I had to clean the fan of my dads ps4, it literally sounded like a bomb

13 : Anonymous2021/03/07 13:36 ID: gq3gagl

looks like a bunch of joints w invisible paper

14 : Anonymous2021/03/07 14:37 ID: gq3lshr

I await the day my friend lets me clean his base PS4.

15 : Anonymous2021/03/07 15:01 ID: gq3o3z1

My sister gave me her ex bfs ps4 after my Xbox blew up In a snow storm power surge and it was 100 times worse had rust in it as well still works though

16 : Anonymous2021/03/07 15:46 ID: gq3sx5v

I took a toothbrush to the fan and mine was still loud but not loud to the point you can't hear the game

17 : Anonymous2021/03/07 16:10 ID: gq3vo39

I opened my PS4 after 5 years and it looked nearly new. I don’t know how people do this?!

ID: gq3y19z

Turns out, different people live different lives!

18 : Anonymous2021/03/07 16:28 ID: gq3xrcw

Lol mine was worse than this after 6 years. I don’t smoke but I light candles sometimes. Who would have thought?

19 : Anonymous2021/03/07 16:32 ID: gq3y7kl

"The PS4 is still so loud"

Was my experience at least, hope it helped yours though!

20 : Anonymous2021/03/07 17:31 ID: gq45axz

Ya'll got so many nasty PS4's that I went and almost ruined my fingers opening that shitty PS4 Pro only to find it sparkly clean while being over 4 years old, cba fixing the thermal paste.

21 : Anonymous2021/03/08 00:18 ID: gq5oi3y

For me it was the heatsink that was on the very bottom of the pro

22 : Anonymous2021/03/08 07:58 ID: gq6uwyh

You need to be sure to clean the later of dust from the Heatsink and apply new Thermal Compound to the heat Sink and CPU. Overheating is cause by a dirt/dust buildup and worn Thermal Compound.

Please see this Video:

check this out 🙂

24 : Anonymous2021/03/08 13:37 ID: gq7iff8

This is why I bought headphones

25 : Anonymous2021/03/08 14:02 ID: gq7l53x

Last of us Part 2. No matter how clean it is, it will almost fly.

26 : Anonymous2021/03/07 08:58 ID: gq2yn45

Is it safe to clean it? I wan to but I’m scared I can do it but I’m scared and the PS4 is as loud as a jet

ID: gq3dp7s

In my opinion it‘s easier to open and clean than the PS3. Of course there is a risk of killing it if you forget to put something back where it belongs. But after all it‘s doable. The only thing that almost killed me was getting stuck screws out of it.

It's super easy. I've done it a couple times. Just follow a youtube guide and make sure you put your screws in a safe place so you don't lose them. It should really only take 15 or 20 minutes.

You will need a T9 torx security screwdriver or bit. Security are the ones with the hole in the middle, that's important.

27 : Anonymous2021/03/07 10:04 ID: gq32l21

2 bad op didn't discover where heatsink is

28 : Anonymous2021/03/07 14:20 ID: gq3k4ea

Nah, I’d rather just complain endlessly without doing anything about it THANK YOU VERY MUCH

29 : Anonymous2021/03/07 05:35 ID: gq2kel9

This wont help so much , you need too open her up too acess the heat sink and clean it there , and change thermal paste.

The first image looks like the pus that erupts from my ingrown toe
