While it's never a go-to gun for me, I find I get a kill with it every time I grab it as a placeholder.
The iron sights are better than most but not as great as others. Never feel screwed grabbing it off the drop and getting into a fight.
I honestly think it's one of the best "new player" guns in the game. A fire rate and clip size that is very forgiving for those without incredible aim. I think a lot of spitfire and devotion lovers would love this gun is they gave it a chance.
It's a rock solid weapon that just works. It doesn't compete against a 99 or 301 late game against great players but it's also solid enough to use all game against most average players.

Best starter weapon in arenas, I buy it, one upgrade and a mozam. Hipfire is godlike and its good at medium range too.
I can see how it was really dirty with disruptor rounds back in the day.

Alternator is way more powerful than people give it credit for. Fully kitted its slaps so hard, a bit slower compared with the other Light weapons in terms of fire rate I feel. Luv it tho.

Alternator is really easy to use, very accurate, and strong crouch spamming. It has a high clip size and pretty good damage per mag, but it’s slow, so it’s dps isn’t top tier. It loses to all the best guns in a 1v1 with two really skilled players rarely missing. Endgame it is merely a secondary at best.
I wish disruptor rounds would come back but the community has war scars from the devs releasing it hella OP off launch.
I want it to come back and just be like +2 dmg to shields. That way it’d give me a reason to use the RE45 and alternator after early game. The game is more fun with variety imo. Season 2 had the most gun variety.
I still miss disruptors, hammerpoints, and double tap. Shatter caps, deadeye tempo and quick draw are all trash hop ups.

My first round pick in Arenas every time along with a battery. Usually switch away for the R301 or R99 in later rounds and in BR though
ID: gyp77qdExactly my strat. Favorite starter weapon for arenas due to the weaker shields. Decent range for an smg and still slaps up close. I use it for the first two rounds typically the switch to the R99.

It’s a perfect weapon for people who can’t control recoil. But I think it could use a hop up, for a gun that has two barrels it could easily have a rapid fire hop up or something

It’s a go-to reliable smg with good damage and low recoil. A very good choice for newcomers and, at its worst it’s a good attachment holster for the R99.
7/10 Reliable, but outmatched by most.

It is a solid weapon for fights when you first land, but later in the game I'd swap it out for an R9 or 301

I used to love this weapon a couple months ago, now i hate it.
I feel like vs higher skilled enemies it's impossible to hit them when they're strafing since this smg alternates bullets left and right

Alternator is al all rounder. Jack of all trades, master of none. A great first purchase in arenas.
Also, many people underestimate how well it scales with attachments. Grab a fully kitted one with a 2x HCOG in firing range and shoot some distant targets. I think you'll be surprised at how much damage you'll do.

Attachment holder in BR but not awful if you get stuck with it.
OK starting weapon in Arenas, but L-Star's existence at the same price point pretty much invalidates it.
If you think disruptors should come back, you are very dumb.

The Alternator has great iron sights, to the point I avoid picking up sights if I use it in a game

The first gun that I used and recognized, and it’s still very reliable and does a good amount of damage while not being overpowered

pretty good if you drop and land on it, anywhere besides early game it's horrible against some people who might have the 301, or r99.

I love using this gun against non mobile characters because it’s hard to miss, but I find it lacking when I’m fighting a meth-addicted strafing Wraith, Octane, or Bangalore. I know part of the problem is my aim but I tend to do more damage in those type of fights with R99, 301, Volt, or EVA-8.

It's an very good gun; good damage, easy recoil, especially combined with the slower rate of fire; the only problem being it's not an R-301 or an R99.
Contrary to most opinions, I actually think that it's a good thing. Having every gun be viable or meta is just impossible, and the fact that it's beneath R400 is okay. They're still good mind you -- I believe this to be very true for many guns, like the RE-45, post buff mozambique, and even the current havoc, the longbow even; not just the Alternator; they are still good guns, just not on the level of the main guns that everyone uses -- and I think that, from a game design balance that's actually a good thing. I won't go down that whole rabbit hole now, but I think it's in a very healthy state as is.

Completely outclassed by the 301 and R99, no reason to carry one into end game.

I get a big, dumb grin on my face whenever I get one off drop. Amazing round 1 pick for Arenas. Ironsights are tolerable. As a console player I find it more reliable than an R-9 without attachments.

at close range the rate is deadly; however, my teammates have been getting us engaged in gun fights from like 100m away on far too regular of a basis, so i don't even remember what its like anymore tbh.

Ah my favorite starting weapon. Sometines i bring it to the end game for the hell of it. Ol reliable #2 (#1 is the R-301)

It's usually the first thing I'll drop after I find a R301 or R99. Sometimes I'll trade it off with a RE-45 even, as a sidearm. Fire rate is just too slow as a secondary.

during seasons where I mained octane and bloodhound I would actively use this thing all the time because the hipfire is so fucking good on it and it works so well with legends that have increased movespeed.
I'd still like to see a hop-up for it, but it's in a fine place for now.

Wingman/alternator is a really good combo. As for the gun itself it’s a really good secondary. Once you get a blue/purple mag on there it almost feels like a lmg. Put a 1-2x on it you can use it midrange. It’s not an r99 (and in most cases i would swap it for a r301) but it’s reliable and better than you probably think.

It’s my go to side arm. The firing rate isn’t too fast so feathering the trigger yields a steady stream of relatively accurate suppressive fire. The damage is pretty good, the ammo capacity is just right. It’s fairly accurate at med-close to close range.
Partner it with a Hemlock and you’re in business.

Great early gun, but you're dead late game most of the time with it.
Alt/spitfire combo would be something fun to try until late game actually. No aim just fun. Then be Fuze and spam grenades. I hate me.
