Also, just my 2cents, EoD is not a good choice now since BSG has showed that they can't be bothered to care about the game, though I'm hopeful they'll prove me wrong.

If you bought EoD on the future content premise for a game that won't be out of beta in the foreseeable future the fault lies with you.

I'd go even as far to say, that for the amount of money that's involved in the hacks, it's easy to buy off a game developer to share some hints about where to look for exploits.
€80 for a week of hacks nowadays, and there's like 5k hackers in a previous banwave. €160k a month. Where does this money goes to? It's all resellers and reverse engineered copies of other hacks so the money eventually ends up in only a few hands.Those few hands receive a bit of info about what exploits to target, giving full control over to EFT-management by following their breadcrumbs. Or management just turns the other cheek. As soon as one hackteam steps out of line, you break contact and find another hackteam to fill the void. The hackteams pay EFT-management a big amount of their profits through other fake businesses and services vaguely related to EFT, so that Nikita can have a nice piggybank all of his own for the future which is disconnected from the company.
All this money is legally obtained btw.Man I'd be such a good selfish boss.

Bought the original edition then "upgraded". Never had a deal. Only buy this game on a deal. And never upgrade an account. Just get a second one. There are to many issues with the game to warrant the cost, and the issues have persisted over the years. Be wary of your buy and know what you are walking into first.

What's the playercount like for oceanic/are there oceanic region servers?

Yes. Depending on the time of day you might get quiet raids (which can be a positive for some people). Primetime hours I normally find a game within 2 minutes. 3am onwards until mid afternoon you might have to wait 4-5 minutes to get matched depending on which map and whether it's a day or night raid.

I wanted to buy the game because I don't think there's anything out there quite like it and looks fun (if pretty hard), but my friends keep telling me not to bother, that it's not fun, and to wait for BSG to make another game where they'll put all Tarkov features. I have found no info of any such game existing, and believe by "next game" they are thinking of what Tarkov should be when it'll be finished.
I was on the fence, then excited and about to give in, and now I'm pretty bummed. I don't know if I should wait more... if it turns out there is no "next game", I wouldn't want Tarkov to be dead by then.

Just buy the base version. There is no "next game". Personally I think it's loads of fun and if you don't know too much about it, watch some YouTube videos and form your own opinion on whether it's worth it.
