Aerith wasn’t fixed. From what I understand the translation/localization people had a coin flip type choice where either was ok and went with Aeris when translating to English. Square made a different choice later on. The history of the OG translation is pretty crazy in how rushed it was and how limited the resources were compared to a more recent game would be done. Cait Sith will be interesting to see what they go with for sure.
