I find Amano's art to flourish when the posing is eccentric, but it looks odd when they're just standing. Also, why is there are watermark of 'Tom B' on the bottom right?

I’m so mixed on Amano’s art. On one hand, I find a beauty in the way it seems “wavy”, but on the other…I just prefer those more “anime” or “bold” designs.

I don't think there's a single piece by Amano I've ever found visually appealing.

I just don't like the guy's art style.

For me Amano IS Final Fantasy as much as Uematsu and Sakaguchi.

The style is different for sure. Not the biggest fan myself (the faces mostly) but I respect it a lot. You take a glance at it and you know immediately that Amano drew it. Very memorable

I completely agree, and have never understood the overall love for any of it beyond nostalgia maybe? I think Amano has incredible backgrounds and use of colors, but I have never once enjoyed the look of single piece of character art.

Did Amano ever illustrate a manga? I have a vague memory of seeing a manga from Tokyopop with a very similar art style to his.

I don’t think Square tells Amano what the game is like before they tell him to draw someone. I remember in an interview they showed him the artwork of Tidus that he did for FFX and he straight up said “Who is that?” Not to say I don’t love his art though.
