Just beat FFX, I think I now in love with final fantasy

1 : Anonymous2021/11/23 07:40 ID: r07z3y

While the ending didn’t make me cry, it was still heartbreaking, even when that game got so hard and I kept dying over and over I still loved it though. I played through all it today and I don’t feel empty, I feel satisfied, I’m happy with the way things turned out. I love the heck out of this game, and it’s definitely going in one of my fav games ever. I think I’ll play FF13 or ff12 next.. but for now wonderful game

2 : Anonymous2021/11/23 09:08 ID: hlqz7p6

Just so you are aware. The gameplay changes drastically after X. Not necessarily for the worst but it is different. Good luck and I'm happy you enjoyed the game.

ID: hlsldyg

Definitely for the worst

3 : Anonymous2021/11/23 11:04 ID: hlr70tq

Ask a hundred FF fans, get a hundred different recommendations. (But you should play X-2 next.)

ID: hlsor8w

I’d just like to put in my 2 cents and say that X-2 is definitely not for everyone. I particularly disliked that game but I loved X

ID: hlrwpli

X-2, after a recent playthrough, ages so much better than many of the other titles. The multiple endings and exploration was ahead of its time along with the all women cast (and not being afraid to embrace femininity). Yeah it's a bit cringe at some points but I believe it's now among the better RPG games to play.

ID: hlrvg4t

... or not:)

ID: hlsb9kd

no. do NOT play X-2 right after X. Need some time in between because X-2 really does not match up with the original.

4 : Anonymous2021/11/23 08:34 ID: hlqwsrz

Wonderful. Hope you keep enjoying Final Fantasy games, there are still so many for you to play.

5 : Anonymous2021/11/23 18:07 ID: hlsni51

I recommend you 7, 8 and 9. They have that wonderful “golden age” appeal that made you like 10. 12 and 13 are pretty cool too, but they have a different vibe,

6 : Anonymous2021/11/23 10:36 ID: hlr523v

One of us, one of us.

Have you played IX yet? It's my favorite game of all time.

ID: hls2if8

Everytime I read a comment about someone's favorite final fantasy, it's a different game then the last comment I read. I love that there are just so many good final fantasies to pick from.

ID: hlrtt0r

Same here. I fantasize of them redoing 9 with the graphics and voices of x since the story is so good

ID: hlrg7if

I second this choice

ID: hlsb2xr

don't listen to this guy. IX is low tier

7 : Anonymous2021/11/23 11:54 ID: hlrau7u

12 is a beautiful masterpiece with great characters, a brilliant storyline and great battle systems. Get stuck in.

8 : Anonymous2021/11/23 15:56 ID: hls3hw4

Play XI and say good bye to your life.

9 : Anonymous2021/11/23 16:34 ID: hls8zf7

FFVI is my favorite and the game I recommend you play next. It has a similar turn based battle system to X with Sprite Graphics. Great characters and story. Unforgettable OST

ID: hlss20a

Agreed, if your introduction to the series is 10 you'll want to hit 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, probably in that order to get games that are similar in tone and mechanical feel.

10 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:51 ID: hlsl23f

FFX wasn't anything near as great as Tactics, 7, 6, 4, or 9. You'll be blown away by those games. I hope you enjoy the rest if the series!

Also, play Chrono Trigger...arguably the best final fantasy lol.

11 : Anonymous2021/11/23 12:57 ID: hlrgnin

Ff12 is better than 13. Play the remastered version.

12 : Anonymous2021/11/23 15:59 ID: hls3vrj

FFX was the game I became a fan of the franchise. If you liked it play IX, VIII, VII, VI and the rest.

13 : Anonymous2021/11/23 16:26 ID: hls7rqu

I really liked X as well, I don't think it needed a sequel, and I definitely don't think any of the extra story stuff is needed, it's a great game from start to finish, but I won't hate anyone that wants the perfect ending from X-2.

14 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:35 ID: hlsijww

10 was one of the best stories. I would try 12 over 13.

15 : Anonymous2021/11/23 14:08 ID: hlromyh

Also, beware, the 13 trilogy has a very different vibe compared to their other titles to the series, to the point that many fans do not consider those games “ canon” -although they are not BAD by any means.

Same can be said for X-2 but that is a must-play if you ever finished X, moreover if you enjoyed it so much.

XII has his quirks but it’s absolutely worth playing. Loved that odd ball.

VII-VIII-IX together can be described as the modern classics. You can’t go wrong with either of those.

Enjoy the ride!

I’m thinking very much of FF12, it just seems way to interesting to me.. only reason I was interested in FF13 is because Blinded by Light is my favorite song, just in general.. but I love MMOS and that MMO style combat and world seems very appealing!

ID: hlsb618

many fans do not consider those games “ canon” -although they are not BAD by any means.

I've literally never heard this before now. The only games I've heard don't count are non-numbered titles and the MMOs.

Same can be said for X-2 but that is a must-play if you ever finished X, moreover if you enjoyed it so much.

I actually disagree with this. By all means try X-2. But I really don't feel like it adds anything to X. To me it's like saying you have to watch a direct to home sequel to a Disney movie that you love.

ID: hlsahcr

to the point that many fans do not consider those games “ canon”

lol is this like the people that don't count XI and XIV?

16 : Anonymous2021/11/23 16:48 ID: hlsb6hr

Thats awesome unfortunately you played the best one first, its going to be hard to top. I'd say got with 12 next

17 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:43 ID: hlsjp5v

For me VII-X is the real golden age of FF. The rest since then have certainly still been good and are worth playing, but if you want more of that absolute S-tier gaming experience I'd recommend going to the earlier titles rather than the later ones unless you particularly disliked the turn based combat

(Apologies to all the FFVI fans, I've heard many good things but just haven't played it myself so can't recommend it)

18 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:54 ID: hlsliz2

Highly recommend playing XII Zodiac Age. It's one of the best gameplay mechanics in FF series. Makes you really think about your strategy going into a fight

19 : Anonymous2021/11/23 18:02 ID: hlsmp0j

Both FF12 and FF13 are great, i'd suggest going for FF12TZA first out of the two, as it will introduce you to Ivalice (best FF setting)!

If you want to branch into the 2d's my personal favorite is FFV. Whilst the story is nothing special the gameplay is amazing and it might be a nice change between the later story heavy games.

20 : Anonymous2021/11/23 09:17 ID: hlqzsfo

13 is amazing and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise. General consensus is that the 13 trilogy is absolutely worth your time, but that it isn't for everyone.

ID: hlrcwej

Every Final Fantasy is at least a good game. We've just been spoilt by masterpieces like VI, VII, IX, X to think the others are bad.

ID: hlrj2cv

Can't stress this enough, I avoided 13 for YEARS because of what a bad rap it gets online. Decided to finally give it a try myself when they released it on Steam and it's actually pretty good! The combat is definitely on the weird side, but I found it a lot of fun and fairly fast-paced for a FF game. I also liked that the game put limits on how far you can grind in each chapter, making it so that you won't overlevel too badly.

ID: hlrs3ei

General consensus is that the 13 trilogy is absolutely worth your time

thats literally a blatant lie what the hell lmao

ID: hls3pkp

I don't think you understand what "general consensus" means...

ID: hlr5alq

Don’t lead him down the wrong path; 12 is way better.

ID: hlsliuy

13 sucks ass from a straw

21 : Anonymous2021/11/23 12:12 ID: hlrcd0j

6 calls to you.

22 : Anonymous2021/11/23 15:30 ID: hlrzkmq

X was also my introduction to the franchise. It will forever be one of my favorite games period. Truly is a magical game.

23 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:34 ID: hlsieha

I think FF13 would be great if your last game was FFX. XIII is linear but in a fine way. You'll like it

ID: hlss7vl

It’s funny people always say that about 13, when 10 is also super linear as well, but no one mentions it lol

24 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:53 ID: hlslcpm

Play 7, 8, and 9. SKIP 13 because it's the biggest pile of shit ever made, especially if you play it right after X.

25 : Anonymous2021/11/23 16:16 ID: hls6eb9

I might suggest working backwards instead of forwards. I'd try 9 next, 12 is acceptable too.

There's been a recent surge of hardcore fans saying 13 is good, they're wrong, it's bad, and thats been the general consensus since the game released

The real standouts you should play next are 9,12, 7, 6, 5, and 4

ID: hlsfpz2

There's been a recent surge of hardcore fans saying 13 is good, they're wrong, it's bad, and thats been the general consensus since the game released

Find me objective evidence that a majority of FF fans think 13 is bad. I dare you.

Based on years of watching polls/ratings, majority FF fan opinion is that 13 is fine but not great, and then there are approximately equal minorities of FF fans who hate it and FF fans who love it. The "recent surge" is happening partly because many of the haters have moved on so they aren't the loudest voice in the comment section any more, partly because hating on 13 is more likely to get you downvoted to oblivion than loving it, and partly because 13 fans are getting better at recognizing that they are actually a substantial portion of the fanbase.

26 : Anonymous2021/11/23 08:56 ID: hlqye1o

I would avoid Final Fantasy 13, 12 is fine though.

ID: hlqz74o

I still haven't played final fantasy 1 to 6 but played every other game and the only ones I didn't enjoy was 12 and 13. Disliked 12 but I genuinely hated 13. Never played a game so linear and boring in my life. Looked pretty and had amazing music, but it was so bad.

ID: hlr4o8t

Idk I started the series this year, finished X, X2, 12 and almost done with 13. Stuck on the last boss.

It's a solid game. It's not perfect but it's definitely worth playing IMHO. Especially for newcomers.

27 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:42 ID: hlsjn8i

Welcome to the fandom.

Get your tissues ready, the games will eventually break you.

28 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:49 ID: hlskpdb

So many people have fond memories of 10. I'm not one of them sadly. I was in my late teens coming off the amazing high of PSX final fantasy games. I was so excited to play ffx when it came out, I had no idea they would deviate so far from the world map type adventure the previous FF games had. The game felt small, and insignificant in comparison.

I know loads of people played FFX as their first, and still love it today. That's awesome, I just wish it had the same impact for me.
