I wonder if he's aware they already did a 3D remake of it for mobile/Steam (albeit minus voices)?

Either way, I'm personally not a fan of that one. IV's my favorite, but TAY retreads too many of the original plot points for my liking. It feels like a fanfic. I'd definitely be interested in the full-scale modern remake of the original game he proposes, though.

It feels like a fanfic

The curse of all FF sequels, really.

He's most likely aware of the 3D remake on Steam and iOS and probably thinks no one buys or plays them anymore.

TAY had a problem of storytelling. Having lots of characters is fine, but you need the time to develop them, what the game got instead is a bunch of scattered quests that hold very little depth. If they remake it they should work on expanding stuff.

I like TAY but I have to agree.

Honestly I don't like After Years at all. It's probably one of their lesser attempts at making a direct sequel to a mainline FF since it just basically repeats a lot of the story beats of the original minus Ceodore. Even the returning FFIV characters comment constantly about how familiar their journey this time is compared to the first one

I would appreciate a re-release or remaster of Complete Collection though. Have no idea why that version is still exclusive to PSP/Vita since it's probably my favorite version of IV

I hope Square puts resources into other more worthy projects, honestly.

The Wiiware version of The After Years, which everyone seems to forget, has the same artstyle as the SNES/PS1 versions of FF4. If Square used that as a starting point then it wouldn't take them very long to match everything up with the pixel remaster.

It’s a decent enough game but lots of it felt really repetitive, and a lot of the plot beats were repeated. I liked all the new characters, but their balancing in battle was all over the place.

Maybe if they fix some things!

Honestly it just didn't feel like a new game, it just felt like FF4 with updated graphics and the party occasionally recognizing what's going on.

I liked TAY but that games needs a complete overhaul. I know it originally was a fucking flip phone game but still. That game, if reworked, needs a massive redo from the ground up and needs to feel like a new experience. Not a copy and paste from IV.

but no ff6 remake ever.

The Pixel Remaster should be coming out soon. Supposed to be this year still even.

Just got done playing that one again. Not really sure what to go with next.

Have you ever considered checking out any fan games?

Unnecessary sequel doesn’t need an unnecessary remake.

ID: hmphcix

You should see ff7r.12 then.

12 : Anonymous2021/11/30 20:25 ID: hmpfos4

There already is a 3D version of it in the same engine as IV DS, though. Is he not aware of that?

13 : Anonymous2021/11/30 21:34 ID: hmpq1v7

I wanted to like it but it felt like they focused on the wrong things. Edge was always the most boring character and giving him a full squad of playable apprentices wasn’t what I wanted.

14 : Anonymous2021/11/30 22:04 ID: hmpujwr

I have the 3D remake but haven’t played it yet. Not sure when I will.

15 : Anonymous2021/11/30 22:16 ID: hmpwaym

How about ff6 please, its such a criminally ignored title

The After Years is by far my least favorite Final Fantasy and I've played the overwhelming majority of them. I really, really don't think it deserves any more porting than what it's already gotten.

17 : Anonymous2021/11/30 18:55 ID: hmp29c2

Why they didn't give the Octopath treatment to the remasters still baffles me.

ID: hmp3os7

I think by that point Octopath-ing I-VI would go more into remake territory and that wasn't the intention

Dragon Quest III is getting that treatment and it looks way more remake-y than just taking one of the ports and upscaling it

ID: hmpmvmu

It'd require way more effort. We'd probably get one a year.

18 : Anonymous2021/11/30 18:34 ID: hmoz13a

this honestly makes it sound like he doesnt know a 3D version of TAY on iOS actually exists

ID: hmp3tj6

Seems more likely that he's ignoring the phone version because he wants to use the Wiiware version as a starting point so they can match it up stylistically with the pixel remaster.

ID: hmozh6s

Either that or he thinks no one plays or buys it anymore.
