Does replaying missions make them harder?

I am brand new to this game and trying to learn the ropes. I wanted to grind up my team a little so I replayed the Mandalia Plains and there were three lvl 2s. The second time I did this there were like six lvl 3s. I know you are supposed to farm with one enemy left but I just want to know if I could keep replaying stages to refresh mp in between?

Except for story battles, the random encounters scale with your level.

Story missions have set levels for human characters.

Random battles will be around your highest leveled character level.

Monsters in story battles will also be around your highest leveled character level.

New game tips:

Save often and in different save slots. Specially if the game ask you if you want to save.

The Squire job have a support ability called JP Boost/Gained JP Up (depends on the version of the game). This is incredibly benefitial unless you already learned all the abilities of a job.

Give your units a secondary ability like Item. This way even if they can't do much, they can still heal and gain JP.

Thanks for the tips! I’m coming from fire emblem but have heard this game is the best

Random battles in each location have certain units that can ether spawn or not. The first time you got lucky and most didn’t spawn. The direction you come from makes a difference too.

That’s crazy that direction matters! I’ll have to experiment with that. Thanks for the tip!

they do in fact scale, but later if you need easier battles you can return to the earlier fights

welcome to the party!

Random battles scale to the level of your highest level character.

Story battles, where the plot advances, will stay the same even if you out-level it.

As has been said, monsters are always based on your highest level character. Random battles on green dots are mostly random where the types of monsters you see are just slightly different versions of lower level ones. For example on a board where you fight yellow chocobos early in game, later on you may face Red, Black, and/or yellow chocs.

A few tips I learned the hard way - After you learn Auto Potion, sell off the weaker Potion and only keep Hi-Potions. +70 hp > +30 hp 🙂

Also, learn the benefits of Accumulate and Throw Stone for grinding. If you have questions, ask.
