In FFV, do your characters have innate stats and are thus better at certain jobs, or can anyone be any job equally as successfully?

ID: ht4gutr

They do have innate base stats, but the differences are very minute (like up to 4 points) that are covered up by the job stat bonuses or penalties. So basically, unless you're really trying to optimize (aka Lenna for magic, Faris is most balanced, Bartz for physicals), everyone can do the jobs equally.

I'm a huge fan of summons. I've finished 7 and 10 and enjoyed those summons to get another great summoning experience which one should I play next?

ID: ht6gsdg

IV, VI, IX, XIII, and XV are some other games where the summons played a role in the story, though their usefulness in combat varies due to the games' individual systems.

IV was the first game in the series to feature a storyline Summoner character and she's got a sidequest line where the world of summoning in that game is fleshed out more.

If summons are what you like then I would say IX. Summons are a big part of the story.

ID: htaxsfn

FF12 will make you hunt summons, defeat them, then they become yours. To sum them, you play as them with your party.

ID: htb47ht

Type-0 has good summons as well. You pretty much sacrifice a member of your party to summon a really powerful eidolon you control directly.

ID: htd9jsm

10 definitely has the best summons IMO, but they’re pretty important in the stories of VI, VIII, and XV. I also thought they were fun to use in XII even though they’re not very relevant to the plot.

What's the best way to play FF 4 and 6?

ID: htfr2j5

If you want them as close to the original SNES versions as possible (with some gameplay balance tweaks), you'd get the Pixel Remaster on Steam/Mobile which was released last year (for IV) or releasing this February (for VI).

If you want a lot more optional/post-game content that's not in the Pixel Remaster, IV's best version is the PSP Complete Collection. For VI, the one with additional content is FFVI Advance for GBA (but it's suggested to download mods to get the SNES music).

And of course, there's always an option to emulate the original SNES games, too.

FFVII - Am I supposed to understand what happened in Whirlwind Cave? My specific questions are:

Why don't Tifa and Cloud's memories match up? Is the Cloud I'm playing as the same Cloud Tifa grew up with? Did Tifa even grow up with Cloud, or was it Zack? Why did Tifa never bring this up until now?

What is the point of the Sephiroth clones in the cloaks? Did Hojo make them too? If so, for what purpose? And what makes Cloud a failed clone?

What exactly is the Reunion? And why does Sephiroth reuniting with the clones(?) give him the power to summon Meteor?

Where did Weapon come from and what is its purpose?

Why was Sephiroth in that crystal thing when Cloud gave him the Black Materia? Has he been there all along? If so, who was the Sephiroth we've been seeing until now?

Right now I've just gotten my first huge materia at Corel. If any of my questions are answered later in the game then feel free to say so

ID: htibe77

most of those are answered a bit later, as of now they are suppouse to be a mistery, I only correct you in on one thing from question 3, What Sephiroth needed was one of his clones to bring him the black matera which allow him to summon meteor since he can get it himself at point in the game, which is what Cloud did, why he did? later you will know.

also one small advice, go back to Shinra mansion in Nibelheim after you learn the truth about what happend, there is a missable cutscene.

What is this upcoming Strangers in Paradise game? Is this a prequel to FF1? Or more of a retelling and expanded story, like FF7 Remake?

Or something else entirely?

ID: ht3b2tv

As of now, we're not quite sure how it fits with the FF1 story. Originally, it looked like it was going to be a retelling, but more recent trailers made it look more like a prequel. Alternately, it could be a different story entirely that simply uses elements of the FF1 setting. We probably won't know for sure until the game is released.

ID: ht2psgp

Stranger of Paradise is a completely new story that, as it so happens, uses the setting and elements from FF1. Think of it like an FF1 fanfiction.

Playing FFV and I’m wondering if certain jobs are worth maxing out. specifically Blue Mage, beast master and berserker

ID: htmlbu8

Unless your goal is to max out all of your jobs, probably not. None of those three have the best stats or useful passives to transfer to your Freelancer. Some of the Blue Mage spells are extremely good, and the Beastmaster's Control ability can help you learn those spells, but there's not really a point to learning every single enemy ability unless you want to challenge yourself to do so.

8 : Anonymous2022/01/21 19:01 ID: htmv2kn

I'm a huge fan of the KH series and I was looking into playing FF. It seems like the consensus pick is to play FFX first. I have already played FF7R and I thought it was alright, but it seemed like not a traditional FF game. Are there significant differences between the versions of FFX? The only practical versions for me to play would be the Steam release, PS4, and emulating the original version.

Which do you prefer?

Also, I am a big fan of the soundtrack for FFXIII, is it worth playing? I know the community was pretty mixed upon release, but has time changed anything for you?

Thanks for any advice!

ID: htnei5h

For FFX, go for either the Steam or PS4 version. They're largely the same, with the only difference being that Steam has a few extra "cheat"-type features, like auto-save, no encounters, speed up, that type of stuff. So if that doesn't matter to you, just go for whichever would be your personal preference between PC and PS4.

I am a huge fan of the entire XIII Trilogy, so I'm a bit biased, but at the very least it is 100% worth trying, especially if it interests you. Most of the divisiveness of XIII is just because it's different, so just know that regardless of whether you play it before or after other titles, it won't be similar to the others. Definitely check out some gameplay before buying it to make sure it's something you're interested in if yoi havent already, instead of just going by the soundtrack, lol. It's also worth noting that the XIII games are not available on PS4, so unless you have an Xbox (they're available on 360, One, and Series S/X through backwards compatibility) or a PS3, you'll need to go Steam, in which case there are some performance issues that require fixes. I'm not an expert on any of that, so you'll need to read up on it yourself if that's the route you choose to take.

Anyways, have fun! The XIII Trilogy and X/X-2 are some of my favorites!

ID: htxnzir

FFXIII is worth trying for sure. It has all kind of pacing issues but it can be a lot of fun once it gets going. You just have to be very patient with it. If the world, characters and gameplay doesn't jive with you, just move on to another one.

9 : Anonymous2022/01/18 07:37 ID: ht5ggj0

so, I'm finally deciding to buckle down and 100% ff7 after several playthroughs. I'm wondering what's the best way to make sure I don't miss anything as I'm going along. If I use Absolute Steve's guide on gamefaqs and just ctrl f all the "perfect game notes" will that be enough to make sure I get every permanently missable item?

ID: ht88tqs

It depends on what your definition of 100% is. I pulled up the guide and gave it a very, very light look and the author mentions this about the perfect game notes:

"These notes are intended for those who are attempting to maximize their save game by getting the maximum amount of every item, the best possible stats for every character, getting all treasure - in other words, they completely tear the game apart during their playthrough. It's a tough challenge and only recommended if you've played through the game several times already."

It seems like a well made guide, so although I can't confirm that following those notes will get you 100% without researching the guide, my guess is you're fine with following it.

Should I play IV or VI? I’ve played VI before but didn’t really love it so I wanna give it a second chance. On the other hand, I’ve always wanted to play IV.

Any factors I should consider before I make my decision?

ID: hth455b

I'd always suggest going for the new one. Especially since IV is well liked.

13 : Anonymous2022/01/20 22:44 ID: htiqxym

Does the FFIII pixel remaster clean up the crystal tower? I've been on the fence about playing the pixel remaster or NES version (I feel strongly about playing the original version of a game before I play a remake) but if the balancing in the NES version is as bad as I've heard especially in the crystal tower I'd be willing to break my own rule.

ID: htjso2n

I’ve never played the original, but I have heard stories for years about the final dungeon. I recently finished the Pixel Remaster and didn’t have trouble with it. The quality of life features like the map and quick save are very, very helpful.

ID: htlzo6w

I think the NES version of FF3, and to rope in another game, Dragon Warrior 2, veer way more into the "difficulty via frustration" than "legitimately difficult." I realize that can be an arbitrary kind of distinction for a lot of people, but I think it's an important one.

14 : Anonymous2022/01/21 03:00 ID: htjr0ln

Which version of FF8 should I play? (On PC, original or remastered?)

Have never played it before, I like the look of the upgraded graphics and possibly being able to cheat a bit, but it's got bad reviews on Steam relating to crashes and other technical issues. (The "which version" page on this sub doesn't seem to mention Remastered.)

ID: htk1q8f

Theres no "correct" answer so I'll go over what each version offers.

The original is the original experience. Play this if you're a stickler for the original version. If you're going for the original I'd recommend playing it on a CRT or using a CRT filter, as the game looks real bad without it. I'd also recommend applying this patch (

as it removes some annoying censorship found in the NA release.

The PC version cleans up the graphics to look halfway decent on a modern display. It also has the benefit of tons of community mods. This video ( details how to get the game looking way better than what the steam screenshots look like. To my knowledge this version also has the 3x speed hack, the fill resources hack, and the no random encounters hack as options.

The remastered version cleans up the character models to look more like how they've been represented in modern times. It (and the vanilla PC version) have some issues with blurry backgrounds and given how new the remaster is the community hasn't had time to bring this version up to snuff compared to the PC port. There are some patches (

but I'm not well versed on them.

Personally for my FF marathon that I'll be doing this year I'll be playing the original PS1 version but I'm a stickler for original versions.

If you want a more detailed breakdown, this video ( goes over everything you need to know.

ID: htxeevd

The remaster skins on faces to the character renders which contrast heavily with the impressionist aesthetic the original game beautifully realized.
It’s unfortunate.
Original if possible.

Currently playing the FF3 3D remake as my first time playing the game. When is it safe to delete mini and frog? And other parts like these I should be aware of?

16 : Anonymous2022/01/22 04:01 ID: htp5uxk

Been playing FFV for the first time and really digging it. Just got to the point where Galuf dies and gets replaced by Krile. About how far in am I (I'm guessing half or two-thirds)?

ID: httmp1l

Two thirds to three quarters even maybe. There is a lot of stuff left that is sort of optional

17 : Anonymous2022/01/23 17:06 ID: htwey94

I played FFXV (the only final fantasy game I've played) and I wanna get a more clear understanding of final fantasy lore in general are there any good lore YouTubers I can watch that discuss the lore and stuff

ID: htwsf2k

each Final Fantasy tells a different story set in a different world, if you want to get some more of info on FF15 lore its movie is a good place to start :

and promotial anime (theres a extra episode for Ardyn missing on that list but can be found in the official channel as well)

as for youtube channel I do recommend:

Final Fantasy Union which does a lot lore videos and evolutions of FF elements, such as the crystals, summons and jobs which are FF's role system not really present in 15 (the only example being Aranea who is a Dragoon).

Resonant Arc also have some videos discussions about FF and some really good indeep reviews of FF.

I'm a pc gamer and I started playing XIII on steam, I'm really enjoying the game. The problem is that watching XIII-2 videos, gameplays and reviews made me not much interested into this sequel, but that's not even the worst part... As many of you may already know, XIII-2 has constant crashes and problems on Steam that even mods doesn't seem to fix them entirely. I'm really not into playing the game and much less dealing with bad port issues... So can I skip this directly to Lightning Returns? Will it be fine if I watch a story recap video to catch up or something? What do you think? Thanks for taking your time ^^

I'm playing the original FF7, and I'm trying to get Beta, but, I can't because my characters are in the 50s and 60s, I keep just killing Midgar Zolom. Is there a better way to get it?

ID: htfso35

Magic from the Gravity materia is a good way to lower its HP without killing it. The Laser enemy skill also works.

21 : Anonymous2022/01/21 11:52 ID: htl5xmw

What othe FF games should I play now that I've beaten the original 7 on my Switch?

ID: htp2ryh

4, 6, 9, or 10 are your best bets, but really once you have a "starter" FF under your belt you can play pretty much anything.

ID: htlz5ih

If you liked that one, I'd recommend 8 and 9. I kind of find it easier to stick with the same "generation" of games, instead of jumping around the visual styles. You could also jump back to 4, though, which is the first really playable FF game to me. (While 1, 2 and 3 have their respective charms, they feel significantly more grindy than the others.)

ID: htxoat8

Currently replaying FFX and FFXII on the switch. Both ports are excellent. FFX would be a good choice as it is the last one with the "classic" combat style. If you're looking for something drastically different, FFXII is excellent.
