His burst weapon is coming to DFFOO next week and it's incredible. He'll be getting even more love then.
He's delightful in the other Dissidia games and a big reason I got into FF (Dissidia was my first FF).

Mostly he lacked an identity and personality, on screen and gameplay wise
Though NT helped aliviate that and DFFOO fully fixed it

This is hilarious, so much love put into the illustration, and then comes the time to put the name under it, and the artist deliberately call him BUTZ.

When people praise Zidane for being a breath of Fresh air for not being like Cloud and Squall my mind goes to Bartz he and Locke were doing the light hearted adventurer trope before Zidane.

ID: h0hxc9bYeah, everything about IX was meant to be a callback to the older games, which tended to have lighter protagonists. Characters like Firion, Cecil, and especially Cloud and Squall were exceptions, not the rule.
People call Zidane "a breath of fresh air" because those people started with FF7 and didn't realize that before that, most FF protags were like Zidane, not Cloud.
