A lot of people rather want an Octopath style FF6 remake but idk that would just be the same game. I rather see a FF7R style remake to bring the story and world to live and staying fully faithful to the story.
-
The main reason I don't want 1-6 in Octopath style is because Dragon Quest is doing it and I think it would be horrible if the two franchises looked anywhere near the same. FF should either go high res 2D or full 3D and emphasize the Amano aesthetic.

I don't get the huge deal when we are talking about remakes. It's not like FFVI and Dragon Quest VI had radically different graphic styles to begin with, so I don't see why they would need to look "different for the sake of different" now.
Basically the Octopath style would look amazing for FFVI (and earlier), so the fact that DQ is using a similar style isn't really enough reason IMO to hold it back for that series.
ID: h6n9grnEh, games back then just kinda looked like each other. The 2D sprites/3D worlds would work great with old FF games.
Now FF9 would be an interesting game to remake like FF7Remake
-
I want a proper remake of IX myself
ID: h6mo3srI 100% agree. I like 6 more but the sprites still look great. 9 somehow aged worse imo. I don't think 6 will ever get the full remake option so may as well give us a version of 9 that looks decent.
-
Everyone wants FF7R treatment for their favorite FF games... I don't blame you.
-
FF6 has never been as popular as 7. 🙁 its sad but true. Octopath style remake seems more attainable for us. I'd certainly buy FF6R in a heartbeat though.
ID: h6mrlgkI think a lot of the people behind FFVI are either retired or certainly will be by the time Square frees up the resources for something like this. That's why FFVIIR finally started happening. I think it was Nomura or Kitase who realized that they'd have to work into their retirement years to finish the VIIR project if they didn't start when they did.
ID: h6mmwsgFF6 may not have been as popular as FF7 but it’s sure as hell more popular than Octopath Traveler
ID: h6n0ah2To be real I think most of us here would buy any FF remake regardless of if we liked the one its based off lmao. Id love a 6R though, not in the style of 7 though.
-
I personally think the original is beautiful as it is, but to each their own.
-
The idea that you can expand FF6 into a modern remake and stay fully faithful doesn't seem realistic or probably even possible. I'd be fine with a FF7R remake, but it would end up being a markedly different game. I'd also be fine with an Octopath style remake, because the original game is good as it is, and given a new look would also be great.
-
Gonna disagree on that one. I don't see how you could design a modern combat system with all those characters unless you made them uncontrollable by the player. I also have trouble seeing how the game world would transition into high-res modern graphics. FFVII was always "modern" looking, especially Midgar, so it worked better IMO.
That said, if they made it, I'd play it of course!
ID: h6n979oHmm you do have a point. Every town did feel the same... they'd have to create a massive overhaul that won't be true to the original, and that won't sit well with some fans. I mean if they somehow pulled it off, I would love to play it!
-
Would I absolutely love this?
Yes. Of course.
But I don’t see it happening. Even if FF6 is widely considered to be “better” than 7, FF7 is HUGELY more popular and will easily recoup the high costs of such a production and make money on top of that. I wouldn’t see an FF6R generating the same level of hype.
Also they did a smart thing by incorporating a weird time travel/divergent timeline aspect into the game to add even more intrigue. They couldn’t do that with every single game.
ID: h6mvsydI think VI has enough of a contemporary legacy behind it to drive a lot of sales should they remake it
The lack of worldwide relevance didn't really stop them from giving III the remake treatment when III had literally never been released in English before then
VI is always in contention in terms of "best Square RPGs", "best JRPGs" or even just "best games of all time", even with RPGs from its generation like Chrono Trigger or FFVII itself
FFVII may be more culturally significant but I don't think that directly translates to VI not generating as much discussion. It's widely beloved by a lot of people and looked at with just as much if not more reverence even today
-
Personally I dont think a 3D remake would fit VI as well. Its got a good story but it doesnt have a fraction of how many different layers and plot threads VII had to expand on, VI like chrono trigger is great for how its just a simple but well done title.
-
Square: You got it, more 7 rep
Me: No, I want more 6 love
Square: 7
Me: 6. S, i
Square: S, e
-
Only if they don't fuck around with the plot.
ID: h6mmp3vThis. I mean I would prefer a turn based RPG like the original, but if I can’t have that, please let me keep the story the way it was originally intended. 1000% agree
-
Honestly for V and VI I hope they go the Octopath route
VII Remake is essentially a reimagining of VII and I think the action RPG route works for its particular aesthetic and being the first in the series to really break established conventions after VI tried to experiment with deviating from the norm
With V and VI though I'd honestly just want them to honor what makes those games notable and timeless with updated lighting and environments.
Also keep Terra's hair green
ID: h6msjtjAlso keep Terra's hair green
This is the real important factor.
ID: h6moz7nI agree about the combat system. I don't think you'd use the same FF7r engine and style for 6. I took his post as wanting a reimagining for FF6 that makes sense for that game just as they came up with a new system that works for FF7r.
Can you imagine how amazing/horrific some of those scenes would be with full modern visuals? That alone would be worth the price for me even if the combat wasn't what we want.
-
Enough with the remakes. They're everywhere these days.
-
That's something better suited to a new game set in the world of 6 vs. a remake of 6.
Notably, that's what FF7R is. A new game with a distinct story.
ID: h6mf7q6But you’re wrong… it’s not a new game.
Yes… i know what you’re getting at with the ff7r storyline, and you’re not wrong.
But the product you have is a story that 8/9 of the chapters are closely following the OG story. Part 2, from what I understand will be similar.
To call FF7R a new game with a distinct story, in the ff7 universe is a disservice to people who actually creat NEW stories.
I think remake is a good term, they’re remaking the story all together. It’s not a new story, nor is it the original… it’s something else all together.
-
You want a single game divided into multiple parts so the entire game isn’t available for a decade or more?
ID: h6mlczeAt the quality bar of FF7R I will buy games for the rest of my life. If they keep making games like that I will keep buying them.
ID: h6ml9dwI could see it work as a 2 parter
-
That would be the best thing ever. Just... Here - take my money now for this amazballs suggestion.
-
Yes please. Opera scene on full HD. I'd be there for it.
-
Yes!
-
If they had to split the games into parts like FFVIIR, they could make it into two separate games - world of balance and ruin. And since it's just one extra game, they could easily have transferable stuff to please those who don't like starting over.
-
You won't get it, because it is way more expensive than the popularity of the game justifies. If FF7R sold half as much as FF7, it would still be a success. If FF6R sells half as much as FF6, it would be a flop.
-
I want one for ffx
-
As long as I get I-frames on my dodges, I would love that.
-
Man, after the mess they've made of VII, I hope they never give another title the "remake" treatment.
ID: h6n0z7iMess? I thought FF7R slapped

Full watercolor stylized remake. I’m not sure I would even like it but that would sure be something to behold.
