Just wanted to say I move to nyc today, the 4th, and I know it’s been a shitshow with covid everywhere but I’m so happy to fulfill a lifelong dream and hopefully be a part of the soonish revivals of the city life post covid

ID: gprtchv

Its tough right now but it will come back, albeit slightly different. Welcome and congrats!

ID: gqfqokk

Every day I see little hints that the revival is on the way. You sound like someone who can hang tough until it gets here. Welcome and congrats.

ID: gq40txg

Congrats i think you moved at a good time. I think by the end of summer when everyone can get vaccinated this place is going to be going off.

3 : Anonymous2021/03/03 14:51 ID: gpjed0y

I'm scheduled my vaccine shot today. And it's for today, in 3 hours. I'm nervous but I'm happy too. Thanks Turbovax guy

Sometimes I’ll check the Los Angeles daily discussion and the vibe is so different to what our daily discussions had. Weird to see.

ID: gpjt1cz

I browse it once a week as well and just skimmed their daily thread. I think this sub has a higher percent of very partisan regulars compared to them. So many comments on any topic here seem politically charged. That probably scares many people off unless you're in agreement. The comments there in general seem to lean more on the positive side but that's not a surprise. Other than that, seems like both subs have much less activity compared to pre-pandemic and both cities and states have plenty of their own issues and positives.

5 : Anonymous2021/03/03 23:50 ID: gplfe5i

Is there a particular reason there isn't a daily discussion thread on

?

ID: gpm1b8k

We had them a while back. But it only got like 5-10 comments a day, sometimes less.

6 : Anonymous2021/03/01 15:41 ID: gpb43le

so, recently the nyc school chancellor resigned and some lady named meisha porter is replacing him, do you know if she is any good at all? i just want your opinions on her

7 : Anonymous2021/03/05 13:52 ID: gprthm2

Has anyone had luck getting a vaccine dose that would have been thrown out at the end of the night? Not trying to cut the line (I'm actually already vaxxed due to work, this is for my partner) but rather get a thawed dose that would go to waste. I hear of other states and cities doing this frequently but there seems to be no info or system in NYC. Anyone have suggestions?

ID: gqadti0

I heard those are only given out to 65+ people 3 days ago when someone asked a Walgreens employee

ID: gq3snpy

I’m looking for the same! Also a healthcare worker, also with unvaccinated partner. definitely not looking to cut the line but with rumors of vaccine waste and a VERY motivated partner I’m curious what everyone’s experience with this has been. He’s willing to go at the end of / middle of the night if necessary but just can’t find any info on whether this exists in nyc or not.

Jing Fong workers attempting a final Hail Mary to keep the famed banquet room open by appealing directly to the landlord.

It won't work, but may as well go out fighting.

Also, the restaurant apparently has a profit-sharing agreement written into their lease. I imagine that was a hell of a financial boon for many years for the landlord.

9 : Anonymous2021/03/08 20:10 ID: gq8znce

Hey guys,

I just got a 6 month internship that will relocate me to NYC from Philly. I've never been to NY for more than a week at a time. What do I need to know before I come, or what can I just figure out once I'm there?

ID: gqildwi

please don't hang out in the bike lane while waiting to cross the street on foot.

10 : Anonymous2021/03/03 14:08 ID: gpj91ff

whend do you think major office buildings will start opening up again and when will people start moving back to the city?

11 : Anonymous2021/03/08 21:16 ID: gq98sqn

Have you ever met a celebrity? I’ve only left nyc twice in my over 40 years and never have.

ID: gqadi6h

I haven’t met anyone but I have seen Matt Boomer filming, and Jack Black at a museum. Probably more but I follow the NYC law of not looking at people

ID: gqe0kt5

I almost spilled coffee on Kevin Bacon, served soup for Sofia Vergara, and watched Jerry Jones defend the cowboys performance while he was at the bar I worked at.

12 : Anonymous2021/03/10 19:10 ID: gqhbsop

NJ just announced 50% indoor dining, March 19th. They also removed restaurant curfews previously. Time for NYC to follow suit.

Edit: Cuomo just tweeted 50% indoor dining with NYC

13 : Anonymous2021/03/04 21:41 ID: gppagqt

Anyone else way more afraid of driving or being in a car than on the train? Obviously crime has risen on the MTA, but I feel way more safe on the subway than in an Uber - I guess I feel like I can remove myself from danger on a train whereas I’m kind of helpless in a traffic accident. (Also reading the statistics did not help)

14 : Anonymous2021/03/01 15:50 ID: gpb56cv

How's everyone doing?

ID: gpbby57

Horrible to be honest

ID: gpcblo7

Chillin

15 : Anonymous2021/03/01 17:22 ID: gpbhd93

How do you know whether you’re considered middle class or low income if you’re from nyc and the standard income categories are for average states?

ID: gpdbbbh

HUD calculates the area median income (AMI) every year, here’s a fact sheet from HPD (link. HPD defines below 80% AMI as low income.

ID: gq38ujl

Here’s how. I’m poor AF because I could no longer live in NYC due to the rising cost of real estate. Now I’m in the suburbs of Philly where the people suck.

16 : Anonymous2021/03/02 17:12 ID: gpfmt5i

Is the NY/unemployment gov site working for you guys? It’s not letting me sign in

ID: gph0ysq

It appeared to be down for maintenance earlier but it seems to be working now.

17 : Anonymous2021/03/04 19:53 ID: gpov54y

Will they have the St. Patrick's Day parade?

ID: gq0ziep

No way.

18 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:36 ID: gpzl54s

is anyone actually gonna come to my crib for this quarantine shit after i travelled i was literally locked in my parents house for 2 weeks cause my dad tested positive

19 : Anonymous2021/03/07 01:41 ID: gq1xx2e

Can anyone help me remember a restaurant. I was visiting for work and drinking with a friend and we Uber’d to an Asian style fried chicken place that was BLASTING hardcore rap music. I would guess somewhere midtown but really could have been anywhere in Manhattan.

ID: gq41f5m

Was it counter service? Like fast casual or a sit down place?

ID: gq4bps5

how big? did you have to go up stairs or was it ground floor?

ID: gq4c9ua

if i had to guess

ID: gqg8hjn

It might the Bonchon near the Empire State Building, which has a big projector wall.

20 : Anonymous2021/03/07 12:54 ID: gq3cz2n

Anyone know how to volunteer getting vaccine appointments for people?

21 : Anonymous2021/03/03 20:47 ID: gpkrnu1

Can we get a stickied megathread for the Cuomo scandals in order to minimize the recent inundation of articles?

22 : Anonymous2021/03/04 22:22 ID: gppfxkn

I'm a fully-vaccinated DC resident very eager to come back to NYC this weekend now that it's permitted sans quarantine-- but I can't find the updated guidelines on the NYC travel advisory site.

So when I get to the hotel, what should I do? Do I just bring my vaccine card? Is there a form to fill out somewhere confirming that I've been vaccinated? Or is all this stuff just working on the honor system anyway?

ID: gprt9ro

Its unenforceable, but have your card on you or a photo of it on your phone. Your hotel might ask for some sort of documentation but I doubt it.

I would only foresee someone getting into trouble for this if they are contact traced as a source. In that case they be used as an example and punished. Otherwise I think bring your vaccine card and you're probably good!

ID: gq68iu8

If I get it right the new rules are that if you are fully vacc'd within 90-days of coming you're good and don't have to test or quarantine, right? The wife and I just booked a quick weekend in late April and will have our second Moderna shot in three weeks, so we will be within the 90-days.

23 : Anonymous2021/03/02 14:03 ID: gpey9jg

Does anyone know who the most YIMBY (especially with regards to housing) mayoral candidate is? I tried looking through all their plans and couldn’t exactly find too much on market-rate housing

24 : Anonymous2021/03/03 00:26 ID: gph8rmu

Where is the best place to chat politics? I want to discuss opinion about an org's initiative to ban 25% of cars in Manhattan by 2025, by essentially wiping out 'free' street parking. Thoughts on cars and being a New Yorker?

ID: gpjlgab

Maybe /

, just title the post as a question related to that and add extra details in the body. Sub is mostly just NYC residents asking NYC related questions the past year.

ID: gq673gr

/

isn't that active, but at least you won't have it removed there.

25 : Anonymous2021/03/05 20:58 ID: gpte52d

Am I the only one who thinks there's something shady regarding the reconstruction of the World Trade Center? This article from 2019 just seems like a red flag to me.

Does anyone know the rules around if we are working remotely in New York but have a drivers license from a different state? Are we still allowed to get a vaccine?

29 : Anonymous2021/03/09 17:05 ID: gqck49n

To prove New York residence, an individual must show:

•One of the following: State or government-issued ID; Statement from landlord; Current rent receipt or lease; Mortgage records; or

•Two of the following: Statement from another person; Current mail; School records

30 : Anonymous2021/03/09 04:43 ID: gqan807

Bellevue. Should come in under 48 hours

Essential workers, pre-existing conditions. I was reading on this sub that many places are very lax and don't really verify, but ymmv, and please don't cut the line if you're in your 30s and healthy.

34 : Anonymous2021/03/09 18:37 ID: gqcwkx7

How is "Starrett-Lehigh" pronounced? I just read Marcus Sammuelsson is opening a restaurant there and realized that for decades that I have never known how to pronounce it.

35 : Anonymous2021/03/11 01:00 ID: gqikv9x

Hi! My bf is trying to cancel his retro gym membership but he keeps getting the runaround. I read about the law passed last year making it easier to cancel memberships bc of the pandemic, but retro is not following it. Who can he report them to? He has been trying for weeks, it is ridiculous.

36 : Anonymous2021/03/11 01:03 ID: gqil7gl

Are bars still following the "substantial food" requirement? Can I walk into a random bar and get a beer right now without also buying food?

37 : Anonymous2021/03/02 13:51 ID: gpex041

Does anyone know how the travel restrictions work for someone driving into the city? Are there checkpoints? Do they stop you at the border to see your COVID test and register where you will be quarantining? How does it actually work?

38 : Anonymous2021/03/02 14:15 ID: gpezm03

It doesn't because there are none

39 : Anonymous2021/03/07 11:50 ID: gq38o1w

Im an ex-Manhattanite now living in the Philly burbs ( and I can’t stand it here). I bitch and whinge so much about how much I miss the city so we drive up on many weekends. Never had an issue. 95 to the tunnel. Enjoy your time in the city!

40 : Anonymous2021/03/02 22:09 ID: gpgs67v

First reddit post ever.

We drove up from Baltimore yesterday 3/1. So far, nothing. No text messages, no phone calls, no visits. I was expecting checkpoints but saw nothing.

Does anyone know where to get 24-48hr PCR (COVID, obviously) testing in downtown/midtown Manhattan? Insurance option would be great or self-pay <$250. I need to get one in ~2 weeks.

Does the city's express testing website work for anyone:

The "schedule your appointment" section either presents me with an error or says "sorry, we couldn't find any open appointments".

42 : Anonymous2021/03/06 03:50 ID: gpv0uwd

If it has to be PCR, your best bet are probably the HHC run sites. You don't need an appointment, just show up.

I've done two PCR tests, one before Thanksgiving and one recently and have gotten results in 28 and 24 hours respectively. I believe they have access to their own labs so the turnaround time is more consistent than relying on 3rd party labs.

Some sites have rapid tests too if that suffices for your needs.

Also no insurance required (but if you have it please give them that info, helps cover the uninsured)

43 : Anonymous2021/03/10 19:10 ID: gqhbrww

Assuming you need the results within 24-48 hours, CareCube in Queens is providing PCR within 48 hours. They also take insurance but it might have been $200 without it? Super quick and got the results in 30 hours my boyfriend in 26. They are sending some of their samples to LabQ so you could try and go to that Lab direct as well.

Otherwise if you need a place to go within the next 24/48 hours the walk in sites are great or a lot of the urgent care( not citymd) can let you make an appointment/walk in without much trouble.

44 : Anonymous2021/03/02 19:04 ID: gpg2bto

Considering you can still carry and spread covid even after getting vaccinated, does anyone else wonder if we'll see a rise in cases caused by vaccinated people being less cautious?

45 : Anonymous2021/03/02 20:10 ID: gpgblzu

You can't, at least to any significant degree

46 : Anonymous2021/03/02 19:33 ID: gpg6hqq

Maybe. The majority of people getting vaccinated are the high risk people (elderly, pre existing conditions, etc). This group is less likely to go out to events and day to day stuff that may spread the virus. I would assume we would see the fatal/more serious Covid cases go down, but maybe a spike in casual Covid cases go up.

47 : Anonymous2021/03/04 22:32 ID: gpph9lz

Have you not been going outside?
