You can see the actual subpixels if you stand close enough to screens in Natural Selection 2 (game by Subnautica studio)

A simulation inside a simulation inside a simulation inside.............

A taco, inside a taco, within a Taco Bell, that’s inside a KFC, within a mall, that’s INSIDE YOUR BRAIN!

ID: gqi0a3k

I wonder what would happen if you match those sub pixels with the ones on your monitor.

Don’t forget your appointment for your butthole flaps.

ID: gqizkhc

Just like the simulations!

ID: gqi6mv0

Yo dawg, I heard you like simulations...

Those are massive sub pixels

ID: gqhoyz3

isn't it funny that when you get close to the screen all the sub pixels are lit, but the image you see from further away doesn't look like a seemless one color blob?

ID: gqi12v7

This isn't actually due to the subpixel size! But instead it's due to having two separate fovs, one for weapon models and one for the world in front of you. The weapon one is fixed to prevent distortion while the other isn't and just places the weapon in front of it.

Same universe as subnautica too

ID: gqhu9c2

I had no idea! Is the gameplay similar at all? I loved Subnautica but this game seems very different.

ID: gqiqacz

Wait you mean the devs of the hl mod made this game? Then later on made subnautica?

ID: gqiqc5i

Is this why below zero isn’t finished?

5 : Anonymous2021/03/10 20:03 ID: gqhj8m1

man I loved NS, jetpack was so fun

does ns2 have a decent community?

ID: gqhq1bu

There are three to nine concurrent games at all times and the regulars get to know each other, especially with so much voice communication going on. High tier players also engage in regular gathers for competitive play (many of which are publicly open for participation). The community does have its share of salty toxic assholes, but I'd say more than half the players actually do a great job of encouraging teammates and teaching newbies. You rarely see the kind of extreme freakouts or griefings that you regularly see in MOBA's for example, because few people would risk losing their standings in such a close-knit community. So, in my interpretation, I'd say it's a very decent community.

6 : Anonymous2021/03/10 20:49 ID: gqhpt60

I wish this game still had an active community. I loved it.

ID: gqhqbo5

It DOES and it's a hell of a community too!

7 : Anonymous2021/03/10 22:45 ID: gqi593q

I fucking loved the original natural selection. Played all the time as a kid.

ID: gqi9322

I remember the first time I saw an Onos. I yelled and ran the fuck away. It ate me. Being shat out was amazing.

ID: gqig058

Yeah man, it was awesome. I was on MIRC getting on them pugs all the time with such a fun community.

I would play again but it seems like the community hasn't been the same since those days.

A few servers are bumping but I feel it should be higher. Marketing is week in this game considering how great the game is and how small the community is.

I feel NS2 has balance issues, which is probably the reason - too alien-sided unfortunately.

8 : Anonymous2021/03/10 21:28 ID: gqhv6yp

Developer is Unknown Worlds. They're kickass.

9 : Anonymous2021/03/10 22:47 ID: gqi5i8g

Natural selection, now that takes me back. Didn't that start as a half-life mod that had no business being as good as it was?

ID: gqj0mvj

Yep, I fucking miss all those awesome half life mods.

10 : Anonymous2021/03/10 22:38 ID: gqi4ffq

As an old school NS player, it blew my mind when I discovered that Subnautica takes place in the same universe.

ID: gqi7xkv

What?? Who said that?

11 : Anonymous2021/03/10 20:26 ID: gqhmj4v

valorant does this too, its not real though, its just fading textures based on proximity

ID: gqhyy51

I've also seen it on some screens in slime rancher

12 : Anonymous2021/03/10 22:16 ID: gqi1n09

unknownworlds pog

13 : Anonymous2021/03/10 22:39 ID: gqi4iuo

Yo dawg, we heard you like pixels, so we assembled pixels into pixels so you could watch pixels on pixels.

14 : Anonymous2021/03/10 20:30 ID: gqhn0ys

This thing is also in detroit become human

15 : Anonymous2021/03/10 21:00 ID: gqhrbav

I think I saw this effect in the VR game Boneworks too.

16 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:23 ID: gqi9ubm

I played the OG Natural Selection Half-Life mod, and I played Natural Selection 2. Both are fantastic games.

Subnautica is an absolute gem as well. Waiting for the full release of Below Zero.

17 : Anonymous2021/03/10 18:06 ID: gqh22o3

That's kinda cool

18 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:26 ID: gqiaaej

They are massive, but still a nice touch.

19 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:32 ID: gqiawhv

That's cute but hella over exaggerated. You'd just basically have Red Green and Blue LEDS shining in your face the while time.

20 : Anonymous2021/03/11 00:06 ID: gqiev4r

It's just an alpha mask on separate color channels of the texture

21 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:35 ID: gqibca1

Wandavision

22 : Anonymous2021/03/10 20:58 ID: gqhr158

The same effect can be also found in Valorant. In Icebox, go to site A, and look at the screen behind the right entrance, if you looks closely, you will be able to see all of the pixels forming the picture

23 : Anonymous2021/03/10 21:37 ID: gqhwc6j

I think I played first game when it was HL mod? Good god I was in elementary back then.

24 : Anonymous2021/03/10 22:42 ID: gqi4w2p

It’s pixels all the way down!

25 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:00 ID: gqi75kd

Boneworks does this in vr and it blew my mind first time i saw it

26 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:19 ID: gqi9dhy

LOD on a whole new level

27 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:34 ID: gqib88u

Game by Subnautica studio? HOW DARE YOU. Subnautica was a game made by the NATURAL SELECTION studio.

constellation represent!

28 : Anonymous2021/03/10 23:46 ID: gqiciso

Borderlands 3 does this as well, which I thought odd but cool

29 : Anonymous2021/03/11 00:29 ID: gqihhip

Funny how those fake pixels use real electricity.

30 : Anonymous2021/03/11 00:32 ID: gqiht8r

It's a real cool effect, but it's just two textures overlaid with varying transparency based on angle and proximity. I'm sure it could be done, tiny particles or tiny textures arranged in RGB grids, millions of them! Backlit. Switching between each frame. But it would be quite intensive to pull off, for no real quality gain. Might be a cool tech demo...

31 : Anonymous2021/03/11 00:33 ID: gqihuk2

Natural selection was amazing. NS2 was good when it finally released, but I feel like it took too long since they chose to make their own engine. Lost a bit of momentum and hype and some gamers just moved on.

Performance wasn't great at release either and it pretty much died out in OCE servers within months.

Always loved both though, great concept for a competitive MP game.

Too bad it's all about Battle royales the last few years though.

32 : Anonymous2021/03/11 00:37 ID: gqiib7p

Damn pixels made of pixels

33 : Anonymous2021/03/11 01:31 ID: gqioeio

Did you know natural selection 1 was a mod for half life? You could say subnautica was derived from half life 1
