Little Advice required

I'm pretty new to this game. I've reached the endgame with my devastator and hit a wall at CT9, my build is nowhere near done but I got this feeling that I will never be able to put out the damage numbers other classes can.

I want to do good dps should I start another class before I start the hunt for legendarys and builds (and if yes which one) or should I just hang on with my devastator?

Keep playing CT8, buy blues/rare at venders in Trench and greens/unusual at venders in Rift, then upgrade them to purple/epic. Look for the stats you need for your build. Use Outriders.app to check if they're worth upgrading before buying. Having all the right mods makes all the difference. Play with randoms online; you may get lucky, and they can pick up your slack.

I once had a random deva join me and my friend’s session in CT15. Man, that guy was so impressive he melted everything. He basically “stole” our damage since our total dmg became less than usual. My friend was so impressed he started a deva char next day lol.

Stick with it. Devastator was my first class and it absolutely destroys everything in its path. By far the easiest to beat anything. Feels like easy mode once you have the build setup right.

As a Devastator I found it easy to progress with AP build - Earthquake to spread bleeds, Impale to finish off small mobs for big defensive buff and Gravity Leap. Make sure to have as much CD reduction and Skill Leech as possible. Also, remember to use your melee a lot, it scales with AP and applies bleed as well.

Yeah I'm working towards that sounds like a lot of fun. Does this work without the legendary set bonuses? And does this build stand behind the other classes regarding dps?

It does work without legendaries until T14-T15. Not sure how it compares to other builds since I played solo.

Dev is great, really easy to not die. I got mine able to solo ct15’s within 3 weeks or less.. includes campaign.. ~35hrs in game played total. Have more lego’s than I know what to do with. Think I have every piece to every lego armor set now, or close to it. Likely have been lucky. Could solo 12-13 without the seismic gear and mods.

CT 9-11 is when initial builds start hitting a wall, just going to take some grinding and adjusting but you’ll push through it. I’d make sure I was at least leaving my privacy open to get some help grinding occasionally.

AP dev is the way to go. I started off using earthquake, temor, leap. Then changed out leap for spikes…But have settled recently to EQ,golem,leap As you can nearly 4x your damage with the right combos and mods

Currently have got EQ hitting for up to ~600k per during combos. Theres also the moaning winds/radiation splash trick that can put out a few million damage since youre already up close. Devs maximize this mod since leap and bleed will give it >300% more dmg.

Dev wont ever do the millions of dmg per burst like techno but its still very good and worth playing if you like the play style. There is even a FP dev build worth trying out. Like I said, comes down to play style preferences.

Start a techno, go back to your Dev later. Even a full min/maxed dev is the slowest class from all 4

AP pyro is the strongest class in the game, but techno is easier to built and to play. So try techno first and get some knowledge of maps and mechanics

That’s about the point every class hits the wall.

Here is a written guide on how I built my current AP Devastator Juggernaut from the “budget build” version (ie// NO legendaries). This does extremely well solo or co-op.

Here is a written guide on how I built my CQC FP Devastator v1 from zero (NO legendaries) to hero. This works much better in solo than co-op.

Thank you very much. I already read similar build guides and try to do the AP one. Very excited if those changes on the gear reflect so much in the gameplay. I was just wondering if a other class like Pyro could dish out more dps with the same expense.

You’re welcome. Pyro has an advantage with “budget” gear in that it can debuff NPC’s for up to 75% more damage done to them from all sources. This gives them some very powerful hits for the couple of seconds that the full buff is active. Usually by the time the third one is applied the first only has 4-5 seconds left before it wears off. While pyro can definitely hand out a lot of damage, it is far squishier than devastator is. If you want, I’ve got an AP pyro write up as well.

In terms of pre-end game budget builds, Technomancer is by far the easiest class to assemble and push through to CT15. Blighted rounds and tactical AR gun play is just that powerful. Hell, the budget build to final build really only differs by about 4 mods, all of which are tier 3. But the tier 2 options to use until you get the tier 3 mods work very well. I’ve also got a technomancer write up if you’re interested.

Edit: depending what you’re running vs the budget builds you’ve looked up, it could be very different in your experience. I used the budget build with some of the tier 3 mods I got along the way through to CT15 back when we had timers to beat if you wanted to advance. It was tight but doable. Legendary gear and tier 3 mods made it much easier.
