As a UX designer I’m embarrassed for whoever came up with the map system for this game. It makes no sense. Completely counterintuitive.
-
What map system?
ID: gv7y973ID: gv81zmlExactly what map system along with the constant progression blockers but they claim they looking at it but are also focusing on new content. Screw that fix this 1st before you Devs put any new content. The map is the worst I ve ever seen. The gps line leads you in the wrong direction and the bosses spam more moves then ur gun shoots bullets
ID: gv86t0tI understand you’re upset but you should really read a post on how game studios operate. There are separate teams for fixing bugs/UI and putting out new content, both of which have different skill sets.
ID: gv8jfpkFor sure the map is an annoyance, but I'd rather have more content, if we had to choose.
ID: gv8dljdThe GPS line is worse than The Division 2's ISAC line.
Never thought I'd see the day where I'd have something positive to say about ISAC.

It is god awful, and having to open the menu everytime is a pain.
ID: gv7f1ocHaving no shortcut to the “map” itself is another bad design choice.
ID: gv8asjqPS5 - swipe left on the touchpad thingy (I have no idea what that white middle pad is actually called). Works 40% of the time.
ID: gv7p0tbPress M Edit: ya I realize now console doesn’t haven’t a shortcut, this game really should’ve only been $30
ID: gv7pwa9And if you're on PS4 it takes forever compared to say the PS5 (we've only replaced one of our consoles so far. So I'm stuck on PS4 while husband plays the PS5.)
ID: gv7w6k3At least on PS5, you can use the touch pad to get there. It’s a quick access menu. I can’t remember the exact directions but for example if you swipe up on the touch pad it goes to the map if you swipe right it goes to skills, etc. (don’t quote me on the directions I can’t remember)
ID: gv82hqrAlso If you hold the touchpad it will go to the map, if you tap it it will go to your character
-
Not to mention you literally have no idea where any quest obj is because the icon moves everywhere and isn't even accurate half the time. It's 2021 ffs like this should be basic shit everyone should have down to a science. Smh
ID: gv80lvhIve got issues with my quest markers not updating when i change quests, they often stick on a completed quest for an area i cant get back into.
ID: gv81xa4I feel you man
ID: gv884x8Everything in the UI seems to "get stuck" sometimes and simply not update anymore. Gear previews, equipped items, customizations, map markers, quest pointers, whatever.
At some point you'll make a change to any of those things and the game is just like "Nah, fuck that. This stays."
ID: gv8hxgvMan i thought it was just me. I was doing a mission yesterday that I was SURE was directly in front of me. But there was nothing to interact with and the icon was taking me to the OPPOSITE side of the map that I was convinced the objective was. I said fuck it and kept going in a random direction and the mini map "fixed" itself, I guess? and then led me back directly where I was initially.
My head exploded.
-
I have no idea where I even am most of the time
-
I can’t believe how fucking hard it is to fast travel to different places.
ID: gv8kkyzThat I have to travel to a hub, then load into a conversation, to be able to go to another hub that may or may not be where I actually want to be in that region is just nuts. I get limiting fast travel to just the flags, but the way they did it just feels like punishment.
ID: gv8qb9eI don’t get limiting anything.
This is a piece of fucking software. Make it easy to use.
ID: gv8ig3qDid my fucking taxes in the time it took to load that shit too
ID: gv8kmp1Sounds like a tragedy of sorts
ID: gv8qftxHow long does it take to load on consoles? It’s near instant on PC and can’t even imagine dealing with remotely lengthy loading times with how frequently they occur.
-
As someone who does UI I have to agree with you. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen it makes no sense at all.
The worst part is that this game is built in unreal and the probably have an interactive map plug in as well. This was an actual design choice by someone.
-
yep, its horrible, helps you navigate as much as a candle underwater
-
I didn't realize how bad the map was until my quest marker lost its shit halfway through the game and I actually had to use it.
-
I'm confused why I have to fast travel to jakub, talk to him so we go back to a different area, then I can fast travel to basecamp....
Why can't I just fucking fast travel to basecamp. Unless I'm missing something?
ID: gv8wulvProbably for the same reason we have pointless 4 second cut scenes for every. single. area. transfer. Someone thought it would be cool.
-
And the minimap? Unusable most of the times
-
I really like the game, but yeah. That has to be the most blatantly bad thing in it for me.
You don’t know where you are in the map, no compass, no sense of direction, no way-pointing, and the markers that DO show up are finicky at best.
I feel like standards are so fucking low right now for this type of game. Yet again, another unfinished product.
All that being said, I enjoy it overall. They need a big patch badly
-
I'm assuming the goal wasn't to make it a completely accurate location on the map but to give just some general sense of where you're at. Maybe to make things feel more challenging? I don't know.
ID: gv81p0eNo, it's because they have no idea what they're doing. They've only made shooters containing none of these elements.
ID: gv858bsStill not much of an excuse. Its not like there's any lack of reference material they could have copied looked at during development.
-
Whoever designed this map has no idea how an open world is supposed to function. You have to guess where quest pick up points are located because you can't even place markers. There is no compass. The quest tracker line only tracks active quests. It's stupid. Oh and the tracking line constantly bugs out and misdirects you.
ID: gv7xhhqheck, even hard boundary markers for the edges of the zone showing up in your radar would help give you something to reference against the map.
ID: gv88q5jYes or just a way to pin a location at a minimum. I'd happy with just that.
ID: gv8daeiThis is the most concise list of the map issues. Restated in a bullet list:
No markers and no way to select quest pick ups at waypoints No compass which would allow navigation to unmarked points The quest tracking line bugs out and misdirectsID: gv7ymcsIt's aweful. I'm pretty sure ¼ of my time I spend on getting bamboozled by a bugged tracker line and trying to find where the quest is.
-
A compass would be an easy quick fix!
-
I don't hate the fact that we have to go to our truck to travel between zones. Disagree if you want, but I don't hate it.
But I do hate how I can't zoom out to see the world map, or easily track quest markers and player positions on the map. That's fucking stupid.
The waypoint system for quests is even worse. It's downright broken most of the time and leads you to the wrong place.
-
Just putting north on the minimap would help a ton.
-
I was actually googling if I had missed something with the maps in this game.
I couldn’t understand why to turn in a quest, I had to travel to a flag, then fast travel to a camp, then talk to Jakub, then fast travel to the zone, then wait for the marker to “settle down” so I knew where to go.
Why can’t I just open up the map, zoom out, and select the zone I want to go to and get there? Why so many steps?
-
I find the access to the map isn't even that useful because it only lets you know the zone you're in, not where you are within the zone... which is sometimes ok as a zone really one has 2 ways through it, but some tend to have more branches and it can be tricky figuring out where to go... on top of the fact that the path-marker can lead you completely in the wrong direction.
-
Not to be rude, but it really boggles my mind how games like this get launched these days with simple, basic features or functionalities missing. Features that at one point in time were missing in other games of the same type/genre, and later added to those games by popular request/demand. It's almost like devs are oblivious of said other games and their features.
A few things that come to mind:
Implementing a simple compass to the minimap would already drastically improve navigation. Especially considering mission tracking currently bugs out quite often, leaving you solely reliant on running around until you find the right direction... Traveling across the world could use some much needed QoL. Porting to camp, then running to Channa, then talking to Channa just to open the world map, then travel to destination zone, then run to flag just so you can teleport to the next spot... Feels like a lot of repetitive and exhausting work to complete every 2-5 mins.A simpler version would be: (When at a Camp or Flag) Open Map or interact with Flag, press key or button to open World Map, select Zone, select Flag, done. While playing in a group, when someone initiates group travel, the inability to simply accept without first having to leave/close whatever men you are in is frustrating to say the least. Loadouts? The ability to lock/favorite items you want to keep, so you don't accidentally mark them for deconstruction when using the mass-marking function. Improved item filtering, preferably with favorited items showing up at the top of your inventory. QoL with regard to mod selection. It would be way easier to navigate a list of mod names rather than a big field of icons. It almost feels like playing a game of Memory every time I want to change mods. QoL in regard to adjusting the skill tree. While it's great that we can completely reset our skill points, I'd like to have the option to select a specific node to reset without completely resetting the entire tree every time I want to change a single or few nodes. -
I love this game but the map is an asshole!
-
The ironic thing is the logo of the Outriders team is a compass.
-
The map system is fine. It's the quest tracking that's bad.
ID: gv89kgqYeah, it's really not intuitive at all, the ping option - when not bugged - is the only thing you can rely on for the first 20 hours or so you're playing.
