better boss fights, instead of different colored trolls

ID: hbloz8v

This is definitely really my only complaint with the original game - the lack of overall boss variety, and the number of trolls that are in the game.

ID: hblu83g

I know I’m late to the discussion but more boss fights were on the cards - they simply ran out of time. Cory mentioned it in an interview. They were taking a month per boss fight and had to but a bunch.

ID: hblct65

For real, enemy variety was poor in the first game, especially bosses

ID: hblfr2l

Maybe not fight the same boss three times? Lol. I got sick of fighting Balder

ID: hblucw6

Baldur was the main antagonist tho, so it makes sense to have to fight him more than once especially considering that he’s not killable until the end and he’s actively looking for you.

Classic. I love this movie. It doesn’t help that my nickname is JP and I like techno but my buddies ate this up and busted my chops endlessly for the similarities. For the record I don’t talk to myself in a robot voice however. Thankfully.

ID: hbl74f0

More enemy variety in general is needed.

Also better paced and more sensical character development for BOY would be a big improvement.

ID: hblmjg5

How so? I thought Atreus' character development was excellent.

From a boy who lost his mother, who tried to manage a very distant relationship with his father, to a curious child who finally left the forest and explored the outside world. Then he slowly finds out about his origins, gets extremely cocky and arrogant (which seems normal for a boy who finds out that he is a god) and makes stupid mistakes, then learns his lesson because Kratos reprimands him (and actually fills his role as a parent), while also confronting each other. Finally, Atreus comes into his own towards the end of the journey.

I personally didn't notice any weird pacing issues.

ID: hblgjj3

I agree after the first set of god of wars fast paced different type of boss fights loads of combos. I like this one a lot the same as the first GOWs but I feel they need a big leap now with this one.

ID: hbl5pzm

Yeah it didn't feel very 'God of war' to me because of this.

The old games were some next level god slaying shiz. Even though I did enjoy the story on the game.

ID: hblby2r

I feel the same. I was always waiting for that big moment that never came.

BUT I’m sure this is mostly due to the messy development. Keep in mind the team was working on an entirely different project, abandoned it as it wasn’t feasible on PS4, and then developed GoW in record time. So I would imagine the next installment to be a lot more bombastic with everything we would expect from a God of War title.

ID: hbm77ux

Devs be like: “hmmm I think what they’re saying is that they want to fight several trolls at once instead of just one”

3 : Anonymous2021/09/04 16:45 ID: hbl3u05

More enemy variety. More setpieces. More bosses. They don't need PS5 exclusivity to do these things. People forget this only SSMs second PS4 game, and they had to build the engine alongside the first game. I'm sure they've learned a lot since then.

ID: hbm6jvf

I think now they’ve established the engine and gameplay basics, this will absolutely be their priority.

ID: hbld71i

I thought the use of set pieces in the first game was perfect, personally.

ID: hbleyr2

I loved what was there, especially the Dragon fight and Atreus being kidnapped, but a sequel is gonna need more.

4 : Anonymous2021/09/04 17:10 ID: hbl7bhq

More boss variety. The troll fights were fun, but there is only so many times you can face a boss with small variations before you kind of get over it

5 : Anonymous2021/09/04 17:24 ID: hbl96bz

Just more of everything honestly. God of War (2018) is one of my all time favorite games and I just want more of what it offered. Mainly more bosses and more boss variety.

ID: hbllcg2

Everyone In the comments asking for more more more, I'm gonna take a different approach and ask for less less less doors.

ID: hbly2xz

Less cracks we squeeze through

ID: hblljdn

It’s not gonna happen if they stick to the no cuts design and stay on PS4

ID: hbmfipp

fewer* but agreed

6 : Anonymous2021/09/04 20:06 ID: hblupx9

Have actual boss fights with more gods. More crazy set pieces like the beginning of GOW3.

ID: hbnlzrd

this, i loved cutting off hermes legs in god of war 3 and stealing his boots for speed + ripping off helios’ head to use it for light and stunning enemies. You’re next Thor.

7 : Anonymous2021/09/04 16:30 ID: hbl1pwx

Like Horizon, we're going to have to wait for the 3rd installment to get a PS5 exclusive.

ID: hbl22mz

Here's hoping Spider-Man 2 is next gen only

ID: hbl59hd

It will be only PS5 I can be shure. Like ratchet & clank.

ID: hbmx2dn

gonna wait more years for flying mounts 🙁

I can see Verticality and Velocity being the new thing for future games with games actually being built around SSDs, just need studios to do it

ID: hbncj3j

And then at that point it'll be cross gen with the PS6 lol

8 : Anonymous2021/09/04 16:28 ID: hbl1kjt

I was really hoping to do away with the fast travel corridors and do portal hopping like Ratchet and Clank. Probably not gonna happen though

ID: hblelmd

The fast travel corridors themselves will likely disappear or be made much shorter on the PS5 version, that's not the one causing issue. The real problem is the endless cutscene when you change realms that is actually a hidden loading screen. Hopefully they'd make it skippable on PS5 (assuming it retains the realm mechanic) but that would detract from the cinematic one take experience (assuming it retains that as well)

ID: hblnesy

Those will probably still be there, but I'd assume that the portals in this world appear almost instantly. So, no need to actually walk in circles

ID: hbl1z0g

Unfortunately that won't be possible. PS4 will hold the game back.

ID: hblddee

I mean not necessarily? I could see it to where the ps4 builds the door and you go into the corridor but the ps5 you build the door and go straight to that part of the map? Maybe I'm too optimistic.

9 : Anonymous2021/09/04 17:01 ID: hbl61v3

I only have a little complaint, it was the climbing mechanics and how slow most of it was, maybe they can take something from the uncharted series or infamous secon son and make it even better. Maybe it's just me?

ID: hbl8z00

No, we need the old GOW climbing mechanics and speed that shit up. You even had combat while doing it

ID: hbn09jc

Most of those climbing sections were loading hallways, so unfortunately that will most likely not change

10 : Anonymous2021/09/04 18:49 ID: hblkh77

What they need is a ps4 version and a ps5 only version that’ll take full advantage of the ps5. Don’t give us haptic feed back, slightly better visuals and obvious zero loads.

11 : Anonymous2021/09/04 22:48 ID: hbmff48

More opportunities for Kratos to say "Boy!"

12 : Anonymous2021/09/04 18:01 ID: hble4nd

I think the game's biggest issue is enemy variety, as others have mentioned. However there's another glaring issue in my opinion, the amount of menuing.

Let me explain, because the menuing isn't really that much more tedious than most modern action-RPGs, but I don't understand the point of working so hard to make the game a cinematic one-take experience only to have the player constantly open menus to look at the map and manage their gear. I think they should take an approach more similar to The Last of Us (of which GoW is already a very close copy in many ways) and have a real time menu that only takes up part of the screen, as well as a real diegetic map like in Metro, Uncharted Lost Legacy and TLOU2.

ID: hbmxbck

Cory addressed this in the documentary i think, he initially wanted it but was too hard to make with the time he had left. I actually have a slight hope that we get this for Ragnarok

Edit: Oops, someone already mentioned it below

13 : Anonymous2021/09/04 16:54 ID: hbl54g0

Realistically it will be the same game with new gameplay elements. You wont see the leap of tech going from Uncharted 3 to Uncharted 4 because its not possible. This game still has to be made with 1tf machines from 2012 in mind. Sad that we wont see a true next gen GOW or Horizon game until like 2027

14 : Anonymous2021/09/04 18:02 ID: hble88o

I recall digital foundry saying graphics can still be a lot better because they are easier to scale, but as far as things that require super fast loading times those probably can't be included, like the crystals rift apart.

15 : Anonymous2021/09/04 18:13 ID: hblfsra

No more walking in the tree while fast traveling, a more open world

16 : Anonymous2021/09/04 23:02 ID: hbmh4fs

Proper haptic feedback. I want to feel the Leviathan slam back into my hand and feel the chains rattle as the Blades of Chaos are thrown out.

I also want to see a return to the massive, multi-level bosses that we saw in the later PS3 God of War titles. Bring back the shock and awe of seeing the ground beneath your feet fall away as its revealed its actually the rear haunches of Fenrir as he runs across the sky.

17 : Anonymous2021/09/05 09:14 ID: hbo33kj

More bosses that are difficult like Sigrun. That was by far my favorite fight in the series.

18 : Anonymous2021/09/04 17:39 ID: hblb8wo

More “things” in the map. I always had a strange feeling of loneliness when exploring the world.

ID: hblyql9

I think that mostly had to do with everyone basically being gone, there’s only like 7-8 characters seen the entire game I would say
