There will be a save file issue with Death Stranding on the PS5. You’ll have too many of them and you won’t be able to delete them.

1 : Anonymous2021/09/24 10:47 ID: puh6y8

One of the biggest issues with Death Stranding on the PS4 was the save files. The game constantly makes save files and it does not overwrite any of them, so instead of deleting old saves and making new ones, it will keep all the saves until you can have over 50 save files that takes 1GB just for one game.

The issue wasn't really a major problem on the PS4 because you could just go into the save data folder and choose individual files to delete. This isn't possible on the PS5. On the PS5, you can't delete individual save files of a game. So if you choose to delete a PS5 game save file, it'll delete everything in the folder.

Unless they patch the game so that you can manage and delete save files in the game itself, prepare to have multiple undeletable saves that can really balloon your save data storage both on your PS5 and the PS Cloud save.

And every bit of space on PS5 is precious. I hope this gets fixed.

ID: he47g2k

Same. Honestly one of the most annoying features of the PS5. Was messing around with my save files at one point and I'm fucking going crazy trying to access my individual saves.

Idk in what universe Sony though that this was a good idea especially in cases like Death Stranding.

ID: he3u8mr

PS+ cloud as well since it has a both a file limit cap and a total file size cap.

You often hit the first way before the 100gb one

ID: he3ygb9

I hit the cap playing Mass Effect because having multiple characters and making manual saves takes up so much space. It's ridiculous that they cap how many files you have instead of how many gigabytes. You can have less than the 100gbs they give you but still reach the file limit cap.

ID: he3y1q2

huh, whats the point of a file limit cap? 1000 1mb files is the same as 1 1gb file...maybe to minimize server indexing?

ID: he4gjrr

I’d really recommend external storage. I just bought a 2tb HDD to store all of my PS4 games for like $50. It’s a game changer I love having everything ready to play all the time.

ID: he4j9da

What kind

3 : Anonymous2021/09/24 16:27 ID: he3wvvf

I just saw this same issue for Demon's Souls in another thread. Not the same game issue, but lack of deleting saves. That's a really weird choice on Sony's part to not allow us to delete saves on the System end, and an odder decision to not let us delete them on the games end.

ID: he4g89w

Yeah it's annoying, you can't delete individual characters, you either delete them all or none. I don't know who thought that is a good system.

ID: he4nbvu

Now that I think about it, I don't think you can delete saves in God of War either, only overwrite them. That said, my ~20 saves or so only amount to 40MB.

4 : Anonymous2021/09/24 14:52 ID: he3j6da

Days Gone does/did the same thing. Auto saves kept piling up and I ended up with almost 3gb of save files.

ID: he3kg7d

Thank you for pointing this out. More and more games that simply add autosaves instead of overwriting autosaves will have this problem. If there were a days gone PS5 version, same problem would have surfaced with no way to fix it. At least with PS4 games, you can delete individual save files. The more people that actually understand this issue, the quicker Sony will have to address this issue. It will only become more of an issue as time goes on.

Goddamn

5 : Anonymous2021/09/24 16:12 ID: he3uqqg

I feel like the real issue here is with the PS5 software. These games are using Sony’s build in save/load UI and I’m sure the expectation is that the individual files are to managed with that same UI

6 : Anonymous2021/09/24 19:35 ID: he4nsjl

I've noticed this issue all the way back with Demon's Souls, there was no way to delete individual saves and characters and the only way to delete one is to delete it all.

Hopefully Sony get on the ball with fixing this as saves are pretty damn important.

7 : Anonymous2021/09/24 11:57 ID: he2x98f

So everyone needs to chill the fuck out. The OP is right. I just checked. If you go to Console Saved Games, Choose PS5, and Delete, it brings up a list of the games with no option to open each individual game to delete different files. Anyone saying otherwise is looking at PS4 games which allow this. Show me a video and prove me wrong.

Here is a video of a user asking player to petition Sony to add this feature.

People were discussing this issue last year. No solution was found. You three people in this thread saying you can do it are flat out WRONG. People need to start spamming every tech support thread, and twitter asking for a fix to this.

ID: he372h8

The fact that this video has more dislikes than likes just goes to show how ignorant people are. Lmao. A serious problem is being seen as a non issue because majority of people can't take the time to truly understand issues.

ID: he5o0wo

I pointed out that PS5 can only support one external drive at a time and xbox is only limited by the number of USB ports it has and I got absolutely fuckin flamed and I own a PS5 just wanted it to be better but with these crazy fanboys man I don't know.

ID: he55xno

Most likely that those dislikes come from people searching youtube for a solution, click that video because of it's title, expecting a solution, but it's not a solution so they thumbs down.

It does say (request) in the title, but that could just as well mean it's a video done by request to tell you how to delete single saves.

There are no people in the comments there saying it's a non issue, just people complaining about a clickbaity title and people supporting the video.

ID: he3u7w5

This is the Sony fanboy sub. Issues only exist for games not exclusive to PlayStation.

ID: he5mzx0

Agreed, and for the same reason non-issues are seen as serious problems. I think that most of the gamers that have a moderate level of understanding are adults who don't have as much time to complain on social media. They'd rather be enjoying their games.

ID: he2yyv8

Yup, it makes no sense because you could delete individual saves on the PS4. This needs to be fixed in a firmware update, or Kojima Productions need to patch the game so we can delete saves within the game itself.

ID: he3rd1x

I just had a nose through my PS5 save files - Guilty Gear Strive is already over half a GB. That was uh, unexpected.

ID: he4e05d

Or even better, just patch the game to not create 4,000 save files of the same instance of the game. Why would the game not just overwrite its last auto save?

I agree the PS5 needs to be updated to allow deletion of individual save files, but this issue is more of a Kojima problem in my opinion. Seems like a really REALLY lazy save file management system.

ID: he4o840

This is like the update history feature. Exists for ps4 games but not ps5 games. Really stupid to be removing these features

ID: he2xutq

Glad someone in this thread actually took the time to look lol

8 : Anonymous2021/09/24 16:03 ID: he3tfcl

This needs to be upvoted more

9 : Anonymous2021/09/24 18:54 ID: he4hwaj

What the fuck what a massive oversight.

10 : Anonymous2021/09/24 18:10 ID: he4bnmt

Sony’s file/data management really needs an overhaul.

Its insanely convoluted, separated into way too many areas, and has too many limitations. It’s was bad on PS4 and it’s only gotten worse now on PS5.

11 : Anonymous2021/09/24 14:44 ID: he3i0rb

So first of all, I’m not even going to address the people denying this in the comments and being combative, because quite frankly they’re not worth the time.

What I am more interested in is what actually happens once the game inevitably eats up the remaining storage. Does it just fail to save because there’s no available space left on the drive? If it hypothetically balloons to 600GB does that mean you’re just never able to save again? Not to mention the fact that if you pay for PlayStation plus you are technically paying for the game to eat up your cloud space with no recourse for you to stop it, without deleting it entirely.

Are we sure there isn’t a maximum limit somewhere, like 100 or 500 auto saves? I’m having a hard time believing that not only did they blow the design regarding the game’s save system, but they also failed to implement any protections against it.

12 : Anonymous2021/09/24 18:11 ID: he4bthh

Can you turn autosave off and manually save & overwrite the one save file? Is that an option?

ID: he5m2cm

I can't find an option to turn autosave off.

13 : Anonymous2021/09/24 19:10 ID: he4k2w6

Thank you for bringing attention to this issue, more people see it, the more chance the devs might fix it.

I am curious though, how it actually translates to the average player of Death Stranding. I mean, how often does the game auto-save? How long will it actually take to build up into the Gigabytes?

I played the game on PS4 for only 60 hours, and I can't say I remember how big my save files were, and never deleted any of the autosaves. Has anyone got any 100 hr+ ps4 saves who can give an example of their save files size?

ID: he52k4c

My platinum final save total was ~750MB and 57 files. Not sure of the hours, but probably >100 hrs.

I only needed to export my final save, which was one of the 57 files, so the PS4 versions can probably be deleted from the cloud if you don't plan on playing again on PS4.

14 : Anonymous2021/09/24 12:45 ID: he32ix5

OP is right. I have the director's cut myself and you can't delete individual save files for any PS5 game within the console's menu. You'd have to hope that the game can do it within its in-game menu, which death stranding doesn't have the option. It's mainly a crackdown on save file editing.

Proof. notice how only for PS4 games there's the pencil icon on the right.

Edit : seems my post got hidden. Oh well.

ID: he3gbct

But...your post is just a copy of this post? Why would the mods keep both?

ID: he3r61w

/comments/pujbcg/not_being_able_to_delete_individual_save_files/" class="reddit-press-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://www.reddit.com//comments/pujbcg/not_being_able_to_delete_individual_save_files/

Seriously. Why is everything a conspiracy to some people?

ID: he3skdb

Any PS5 game that handles autosaves like death stranding will have this issue. Your storage memory will continue to bloat as the autosaves keep piling. Thinking long term, you can see where this'll be a big problem in a few years once more PS5 games are on people's consoles.

There SHOULD be more posts about this. Wait until next year. We'll see more posts once more people have more PS5s and PS5 games. This will be a huge, unavoidable issue eventually.

15 : Anonymous2021/09/25 02:19 ID: he66ekz

Also why can’t we look at individual save files? Why did we lose so many features when we moved to PS5?

Even if they rebuilt a lot of the UX, it should be an upgrade or a lateral move, we shouldn’t have lost anything

16 : Anonymous2021/09/25 02:30 ID: he67t1d

Please make sure to cover this on your shows. And please use what power you have to influence PlayStation to fix such a serious issue.

Much love.

ID: he4dlha

Wait, why can't you continue? I mean the bloated game save file sucks but how does it stop you from playing?

18 : Anonymous2021/09/24 19:19 ID: he4lg0n

Will this make me unable to make new saves at some point ? Like Is there a limit to the amount of save files ? Storage isn’t an issue for me since I just installed a SSD.

ID: he4xep5

No, I think the main point is that the size of all of them together can get pretty big. It's not that you have limited space allotted to saving, it's just that they are unnecessarily large. You could possibly have 1GB or more for just one game. In the cloud you have 100GB for saves so it can add up. Since you typically wouldn't want to ever delete game save data, 1GB is a lot for one game. It's also completely unnecessary since you'd really only need your cleared save once done with the game.

Alllll part of Kojima’s plans…. This guy is playing 4D Chess

Upvoting this for visibility!

"A gigabyte is sacrifice I'm willing to make."

22 : Anonymous2021/09/24 16:38 ID: he3yja6

That's so weird. It's possible to do it with ps4 games on the ps5.

23 : Anonymous2021/09/24 21:35 ID: he54zjs

The save data file size seems far smaller on the PS5 than the PS4 though. My PS4 Death Stranding game saves take up 629.4 MB on my external hard drive. However, after downloading the save data to use on the PS5 game, that data us only 67.05 MB.

24 : Anonymous2021/09/24 21:37 ID: he5589a

Pretty sure this happens a lot, I'm playing Horizon Zero Dawn and noticed the same thing.
