Nice. No app update available for me yet but I am anxious to try this.

Edit: Its live. Tested it out, pic showed up in about a minute. Awesome!

ID: hh6hyzi

Did u have to have the beta on your console for this to work ?

ID: hh6stsz

Nope. The options just appeared in the app. If you’re not seeing it try forcing the app closed completely and reopen it.

Cool AF!!

I MISS the fuck out of the activity feed on PS4. I talked to so many people liking their trophies they earned, videos they shared, etc.

It is the thing I miss the most and I hope we get something like it back!

ID: hh6ygs4

Yeah sad that the activity feeds have disappeared.

ID: hh8tux2

Seemed like a huge niche, my group never used it or even noticed it tbh

ID: hh8u8xu

Odd, you’d suspect it be niche just cause you and your group never used it. Considering they(Sony) are bring back a functionality of it for this generation.

It might not had been on you and your groups radar, but a lot of people really enjoyed the feature, and great to see this iteration coming back.

I can understand how if you were never accustomed to the feature how it could seem niche, though. I’m not taking a dig at you… after rereading my reply it might seem offensive and if so that was not my intent.

5 : Anonymous2021/10/18 17:30 ID: hh4r8qo

Nice!

6 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:00 ID: hh4vob1

I'm in Canada and can confirm that it is live! Haven't have time to test it yet but I have enabled the feature!

7 : Anonymous2021/10/18 17:37 ID: hh4sc09

Sadly a few limitations with this, hopefully they expand/ change it during the beta or afterwards.

Firstly, you need to enable auto upload, any videos/screenshots before you enable auto upload will not appear.

Also, trophy videos and Activity challenge videos (like in Astro’s Playroom or Sackboy) are not uploaded. In addition, any video also saved in 4K or longer than 3 minutes will not be uploaded.

Regardless, it’s nice to see such a demanded feature finally come for the PlayStation App, hopefully it gets expanded on later too

ID: hh4ww83

Its definitely a start though

ID: hh4tn9e

I suspected these limitations and it has been my response anytime someone has requested this feature from Sony/PlayStation:

There is a reason this will not be implemented exactly like xbox. Sony does not have the network or infrastructure to do this like microsoft does. Microsoft is like Google, they have millions of hard drives ready to store all kinds of data and get uploads from peoples clips and stuff. They have their entire azure platform at their disposal.

Sony does not. This is why sony only offers 100GB per generation for cloud saves, so 300GB total (which is still a lot and more than plenty) unlike the unlimited with microsoft.

I think what most people were asking for was like xbox, where it auto uploads every clip and screenshot and you can access it from a website or app.

So this won't ever happen unfortunately. What I can see them doing, is allowing a temporary upload that expires after a few days that would allow you to share your clips this way, just not store them forever like microsoft does.

If manual, then sure that way could work. Nothing is stopping them from doing that. But by auto uploading every pic and video to a message that would still require a ton of storage. But if you could just simply insert or add to your profile directly, that would work if it was manual. They would still need to program and set up infrastructure for that, and it depends if they view that as worthwhile. It most likely depends how many people ask for it.

There is also bandwidth caps and other things to deal with. Comcast in the usa is pushing now even harder for data caps, which isn't good. So having a auto upload feature would probably not be something you would want enabled by default.

Either way, fantastic option to have for sure, and glad they were able to do this.

maybe I misunderstand how this works but why can’t my PS5 be the “server” so to speak. I can manage what games are stored on my PS5 remotely and play them remotely, why couldn’t the same be possible for my media library?

ID: hh5l97i

It doesn't have to upload to the cloud, let me access my capture gallery on my PS5 with an app on my phone.

I won't be enabling this because I don't want any of my data auto uploaded to the cloud.

ID: hh4wk0h

Why do people gloss over the fact that Microsoft and Sony are completely different in like everything. Sony can't do everything Microsoft can do and that's what makes their success even greater.

ID: hh6gyxh

Easiest thing to do surely would be to integrate with Google Drive/Dropbox/etc. Then I can just use whatever cloud storage I already have.

ID: hh5vd83

All those requirements are good with me honestly. I’d rather not have all my trophies videos and screenshots constantly being saved into my PlayStation app

Finally Canada got to try something first.

ID: hh4wnx7

Canada is often the target of betas.

9 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:22 ID: hh4yy1y

Fuckkkkk yessssss

10 : Anonymous2021/10/18 17:45 ID: hh4teij

Finally !!!

11 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:22 ID: hh4yvnh

Thank god!

12 : Anonymous2021/10/18 19:00 ID: hh54f6d

Oh thank god they are hopefully gonna do this for the US

13 : Anonymous2021/10/18 17:42 ID: hh4t2wq

So does this work like Xbox? Auto upload to the cloud? I cannot open the link

ID: hh4u7qz

It auto uploads to cloud after you enable it. The uploaded stuff will be available for 14 days. Older stuff before enabling the feature will not be uploaded. You cannot manually upload. The feature is however not finalized and might change significantly.

ID: hh4znqv

So the older clips (after enabling it) can currently not be uploaded, only new clips going forward?

14 : Anonymous2021/10/18 22:29 ID: hh5wl2t

I'm quite impressed that choose to be set a timeframe limit instead of a space one. 20ish images in 4K weight about 100mb in a USB thumbstick.

Since this is free for everyone, they could/should offer unlimited timeframes or allow PS Plus users upload X gb of files. PS Plus desperately needs new features.

15 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:20 ID: hh4yino

Damn this was my number 1 request. I just want manual uploads, not auto everything.

16 : Anonymous2021/10/18 17:49 ID: hh4u1rc

Just enabled it on my app!

17 : Anonymous2021/10/18 17:57 ID: hh4vak1

Prepare for the coming flood.

18 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:15 ID: hh4xv3p

i hope they allow manual uploads but is the cloud storage ps plus only?

19 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:38 ID: hh518z4

Finally. Being able to easily share clips is such a critical component of multiplayer gaming these days. It’s still not even great on PC with nvidia highlights.

20 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:43 ID: hh51z60

I requested this feature to be added awhile back, so I’m so glad you’re implementing it.

21 : Anonymous2021/10/19 00:09 ID: hh693b4

The Xbox clip feature is awesome. I’ve still got clips available to access via app from late 2019. Glad Sony is implementing it, even if limited

22 : Anonymous2021/10/18 21:21 ID: hh5nj2x

This is great but it should have been added a long time ago. The usage of this feature in the PS app will be high only until Discord's impending availability within the console. Afterward, I mostly think users would prefer to share clips and screenshots via Discord as files can be easily accessed on mobile, PC and it could be sent to other platform players.

23 : Anonymous2021/10/18 19:07 ID: hh55gj9

Your move lolsoft.

24 : Anonymous2021/10/18 18:42 ID: hh51tn3

i’ve been waiting this for ages. glad to see it’ll be here soon

25 : Anonymous2021/10/18 19:22 ID: hh57mba

Fantastic to see this added. With Nintendo and Xbox having quick screenshot transfer methods to your phone, Sony was the last hold out. Can’t wait to use this.

26 : Anonymous2021/10/18 19:47 ID: hh5be4u

About time

Has been a peeve of mine for years that despite Playstation division’s profits over the years they couldn’t be bothered to host images

Glad they finally came around to this even if it is like half a decade late

27 : Anonymous2021/10/18 19:53 ID: hh5cbb7

Finally, about time. I’m iffy on Xbox in some areas, but they do have a great video and clip sharing service. Hopefully we get that treatment soon

ID: hh5ee6q

Once this is enabled, it will be better. With share factory already being the best editor, this helps seal the deal as being the better option.

Microsoft does have the more automatic solution however

28 : Anonymous2021/10/18 20:22 ID: hh5gi7j

Fucking sweet

29 : Anonymous2021/10/18 20:23 ID: hh5gk4q

This was a long time coming, great news!

30 : Anonymous2021/10/18 21:04 ID: hh5llca

Oh very useful feature!

31 : Anonymous2021/10/18 22:01 ID: hh5syr6

VRR next please!

32 : Anonymous2021/10/18 22:22 ID: hh5vn06

Can you save videos on your mobile device straight from the app now?

ID: hh6olvd

Yeah you can save it to your camera roll or share it to another app

33 : Anonymous2021/10/18 22:31 ID: hh5wu0o

Finally!
