- Windows 11 update fixes Ryzen L3 perf bug
-
L3 latency went from 30ns to 10ns after the latest windows patch.
yay!
ID: hhnhwzhID: hhnqlqtI get 10.5ns on W10 with a 3600 and 16GB 3800CL16 memory.
ID: hhnqpa2Never checked, but it was 30ns under Windows 11 before I did the latest patch so the patch definitely helped me out.

I honestly don't know what to think ...
Windows 11 Fix ...
Windows 11 Fix + New AMD Chipset Drivers ...
Should my Mem Writes really be that low for a Ryzen 5 3600?
MSI B550-A Pro
Ryzen 5 3600 (PBO Disabled)
2x8GB G.Skill FlareX PC3200 DDR4 (16-18-18-38 CR1)
Windows 11 ProID: hhneyylShould my Mem Writes really be that low for a Ryzen 5 3600?
You mean that:
This is an expected result. Client workloads do very little pure writing, so the CCD/IOD link is 32B/cycle while reading and 16B/cycle for writing. This allowed us to save power and area inside the package to spend on other, more beneficial areas for tangible performance benefits.
?
ID: hhn48qgI can't even update my chipset drivers. They always fail 🙁
ID: hhnbknethe only change is the power plan
if you go to c,amd folder you can install both manually
one is for zen+ zen2(ryzen plan) and one for zen3(ms balance plan)
ID: hhnh7jhFound a solution for that in another thread that worked for me:

I can share how I solved this problem. Maybe it will help someone too. I had a problem during installation, manually looked at the log and no solution worked. In the end, after some time, I decided to run C:Program Files (x86)AMDChipset_SoftwareAMD_Chipset_Drivers.exe and was asked to install the driver, I agreed and rebooted. After that I executed the .exe file again and uninstalled everything. Then I ran AMD_Chipset_Software.exe (which I downloaded from the AMD website) and everything installed without any problems.
ID: hhmq30dYour read and write are about 400pts lower and your Copy is about 1000pts lower than other benchmarks.
Did you update your chipset drivers to latest? That should fix the speeds. Windows Update fixed Latency only
ID: hhmw3k7Memory writes are deliberately half the speed of reads. Explanation
ID: hhng2hkL3 copy still pretty low. for comparison, here's my win10 5600x (although with PBO):
EDIT: i'm an idiot and misread your spec as 5600x. i don't know if this diff is normal or not between chips.
ID: hhnr3ugMemory writes is fine due to how the 3600 works, latencies are also fine but the L3 speeds are bit over half of what I get on my 3600 with W10.

Bandwidth still down. Not fully fixed.
ID: hhmaq8lDid you update windows & download the drivers from AMD?
ID: hhmec2tYes. And bandwidth is still down. Microsoft needs to update…again.
ID: hhmgp7kThe AMD driver update actually makes things worse. Dont install it.
ID: hhokz69And memory latency with chipset driver
-
My before and after
ID: hhmk81kJust a casual 780% and 830% improvement in write and copy respectively.
ID: hhohbe8Your CPU multiplier changed a tiny bit. Do you use an auto OC feature?
ID: hhoiltrJust PBO + 200mhz
ID: hhmmwcwWe are concerned about L3 Cache Latency here which you didn't measure because you are using Trial version.
ID: hhmn5hfHow much is an Aida license?
Hmm, $50 I'll hold off for now.
ID: hhofcujYo no need to be a dick. The l3 cache speeds have also been effected by this bug. So people are also comparing those as well.

My Cinebench score went a hundred points up.
Edit: Ok, a little less, my bad. On Multi. Single actually lost two points but might be statistical.
Before
After
ID: hhmuejwWhich score? multi-core or single core?
ID: hhn2dpxCould you share a print-screen?
-
I installed patch and chipset and good to go now. Single core and multicore benchmarks all good.

I haven’t been able to get windows 11 on. The PC health check doesn’t say it’s not compatible but the install does. I enabled TPC and Secure boot and definitely meet the minimum specs.
ID: hhn0yaiAnd?
ID: hhn16l4I want to install it. I guess I’m asking for advice from anyone with an AMD system how they got it on. Did y’all just download iso and force install it or use the upgrade installer?
-
I downgraded to w10 after the issue, do you think it would be better to upgrade? Or just wait for a liitle while? Im just mainly gaming , what do you think is the advantage for gaming in w11?( Just cs go gaming)
ID: hhnfkcsno advantage at all, you gain new features not related to gaming for now, maybe with new tittles in a couple of years...
ID: hhnvwwaAt this point there’s no advantage. Performance is relatively the same with stability being the only concern when it comes with new OS. Give it a few months if you just want a trouble free experience
-
People keep comparing windows 11 without patch and with patch, you should be comparing it to windows 10
if i double click each one they consistently report high bandwith, if i do the same on windows 11 it degrades down even to 100 GB/s
-
If anyone can confirm, that would be great.
-
Needs a bit more work from my comparisons between 10 and 11 pre and post patches
-
Latency is improved after update, but L3 write/read/copy speeds are still much worse than on Windows 10... This needs to be fixed as well.
ID: hho32deUpdate Chipset Driver
Holy fuck I keep getting downvoted by the absolute moron below. Ignore him.
Proof you MUST update Chipset drivers as well!
ID: hho4szfChipset driver has no effect on L3 latency or speeds. And yes it was also updated.
-
So how does the performance compare to windows 10 now? If it isn’t at least equal I’m still going to hold off for a bit.
ID: hholglfI upgraded today (Ryzen 5 laptop, 16gig etc etc ) and so far Win 11 has been running slightly better than win 10. I find the desktop apps to be a little faster when loading and the system over all just feels a little faster. I'd say go ahead and upgrade but as a precaution back up your hdd/sad incase it goes bad on you.
-
Yeah but with the amd cppc chipset driver it made the l3 bandwidth wierd and my memory latency shotup by 5ns..
-
I installed win 11 release preview today on my Ryzen 5 laptop and I am pleased to report all its well in Windows land.

Windows "11", id roll back to windows 7 only they took the option away. Baked in Spyware!
ID: hhnxe3yTelemetry has been a part of Windows for a long time. I gather that whatever new aspects introduced in W10 were backported to 7.
If you're concerned with privacy, I'd happily lend you a hand with Linux distro recommendations?
ID: hho3s4bHonestly? I love vista after service packs... It was like 7 but with more features

What was it under Windows 10 though?
