They have a repeated history of releasing the game on console promising "we'll support it this time honest" and never do. Yes the PS4 version started to get updates and content but they still missed a lot out and just went with the excuse "oh erm, consoles can't run this level for... reasons.....ok?"
For fuck sake they released it on the Switch and announced a month later they were stopping support for it. A MONTH. Clearly a cash grab to try and stay afloat from their utter disaster if a Walking Dead game.
Don't give this developer your money, as you'll never get your worth from it.

ID: hhxpcd2Payday 2 got little to no post launch support and was given the soontm treatment with any updates. After months of waiting, they released a new edition of the game on PS4 (a new, separate purchase) and promised to actually support it this time. They didn't support it and when people called them out they basically said "If you wanted support you shouldn't have bought it in inferior hardware."
Bear in mind, there's nothing payday 2 added that would have had any issues running on a PS4, the devs were just some combination of lazy/incompetent/disrespectful to actually support their game.

ID: hhxh6aiPayday 1 was a shitshow on conole as well... then their sister company (founded by ex Overkill founders) Lion Game Lion brought out Raid WW2 which is a virtually unplayable PS4 Bluescreen simulator.
Fuck anything from Overkill, Starbreeze, Lion Game Lion - all buzzwords for stay the hell away.

PC version is fantastic, but they’ve openly said they want to support pc and not console.

Ignoring everything the game was unplayable because you couldn't effectively aim like a modern shooter and couldn't communicate in a game where communication is important
The first update to payday 2 on console took over 400 days to reach console players.
They did start fixing it. Like today it's fun on ps4 /ps5 but I wouldn't buy payday 3 on on release. There are somethings that aren't on console due to console limitations but most of it is there and working( not sure if they added voice chat but aiming doesn't feel awful now)

I’ll never forget how they ducked up the console release and it took days after the release to receive preorders. GameStop literally had no clue about what was going on. 15 year old me was pissed.

Yea I have 0 hopes for this game after the way the outright said “if you want our game to work buy a PC and play it there” to their console players.
No respect for their paying customers.

It isn't bad now on ps4. But I would avoid everything they do until after launch. payday 2 was on sale about a year ago for like $3 on ps4. Well worth it.

Do not buy this on console. I made the mistake of buying payday2 for Xbox after loving it on PC. Not only did Overkill not support, they treated all customers who asked for support like utter garbage. I had to fight xbox to get a refund.
There is literally only one developer that I will actively boycott, and it is Overkill. They suck.

ID: hhwuqlcI agree with smaller devs and niche games making their money (or more money) on PC. It’s basically the beta for most before bringing them to console.
FIFA and CoD make more money on consoles yes, but in fact pretty much any AAA game, single player or popular multiplayer game also makes far more on console than PC. It’s a bigger market.
The reason is £££ to target another market
ID: hhxhom5Well considering Overkill/Starbreeze almost went bankrupt in the last 2 years and had to be bailed out by their government so they could keep the lights on and develop Payday 3, I'm going to bet that their business strategy of focusing only on selling to Steam players at 95% discount is not going so well for them.

Not sure if I'm excited for this. On the one hand, Payday is usually fun and polished. On the other hand, I've yet to see a company deal with DLCs in a worse way than these guys.

ID: hhw7dshThe same patch on PC comes out almost two years later on console.... It's pathetic... Stellaris does this too, they are a little better about it but if you play Stellaris on console you're on a special year+ old "console edition"..

As someone who put thousands of hours in the game on 4 different consoles including pc I don't understand the hate for this developer. Sure the game is unoptimized and the PS4 hasn't been updated like the PC version has. But the PS4 version is still very playable (my preferred version).
Payday 3 is ditching the deisel engine in favor of unity because they don't want to run into the same optimisation problems they did with Payday 2. While also wanting seamless updates on all platforms.
They have had money troubles for years (look up starVR) because the CEO was fucking stupid with their money. He ran the company to near bankruptcy.
Their mistakes in the past are their own, but it seems like they know better not to run into these same problems again for the future.
Other people might have their gripes with the PS4 version, but to outright say it is a completely broken port is asinine and unfair.
I'm not telling you what to think. I'm not telling you to preorder, but as a fan of the series, I can confidently say that I am hopefully optimistic.
You can find payday 2 on sale all the time, and get the game with the season pass for 9$. Judge for yourself, see if you like it. I'm always down to play with new friends.

Also the fiasco where they promised there would be no paid DLC, then put paid DLC, which gave an advantage over F2P players.
Basically they don't respect the people who give them money. Doesn't matter how fun their game is after that.
