Psychonauts 2 patch - "Improve PS4 version's resolution and stability on PS5" . Has anyone tried it yet? Is it noticeable?

I played through the game on PS5 at launch and it was perfectly stable. I'd recommend installing to the SSD though because the load times were pretty bad off my external HDD.

Dude even my five year old PC can run this game well. This game can easily run 4K 60 on PS5. The fact they're charging the same money as XSX and not even updating the game properly till now is bad. That being said, I actually love this game a lot, I think everyone should try this.

ID: hj5fgiyWell... not really. The Mass Effect Legendary Edition runs all games at full 4K60 while Psychonauts 2 on PS5 is only 1440p60. Both are PS4 games. It's entirely a Microsoft-gives-middle-finger-to-Playstation-our-version-is-better situation.

Since a few people in here have asked if they should play the original, I'll just say I played through the whole game recently and I thought it held up pretty well. It's not long and is pretty frequently on sale. I'd just play it if you are curious.

Haven’t tried the patch, but this was still easily my GOTY. Sad we probably won’t see anymore DoubleFine on PS.

ID: hj6ymr2This is just the business really. Sony do the same by paying Activision for exclusive content in Call of Duty every year that only Playstation gamers get for no extra cost, to incentivise people buying Playstation.
Similarly, Microsoft paid out of pocket to upgrade one of their first party games as an incentive for their customers. Additionally, the game was improved on Playstation by Microsoft's money, as Double Fine were going to take the boss battles out due to time and money constraints.
In any case, you're getting exactly what was advertised on Kickstarter from the very beginning: Psychonauts 2 on PS4.

If anything, just be happy they still released on PS at all. Same for Deathloop. Microsoft could have just paid out whatever cost there was with breaking the exclusivity contract but they didn’t.

This game is hands down in my top 5 games of all time, love it to death and everyone one should play this.

ID: hj5ssvhYou don’t necessarily need to, they explain what happen in first part. Not super involved, but they let you know. It definitely wouldn’t hurt, it’s a great game in its self, an you will know more of a back story of everyone.

Hopefully that means we get at least 1620p so we can at least match the Series S, 1800p or higher would be even better. I know there are probably some limitations with running this game in backwards compatible mode, so I'm trying to keep my expectations in check.

Now I am intrigued. I don't really care about 120 fps but if the resolution got improved from 1440p to something like 4K then that's great. 60 fps + 4K resolution on ps5 would sound awesome. Graphics wise, Xbox series is identical or almost identical to ps5 version, it just Xbox has (had) higher resolution; 120 fps advantage.

ID: hj6zuy4It technically isn't an HDR game at all, it just uses the Auto HDR functionality of the Xbox Series consoles (note that it only supports HDR on those consoles, there's no HDR on PC or any of the Xbox One versions).

It was like $20 for GPU (cause of taxes) on a console I wasn’t using so I cancelled it. I did NOT know they had the $10 subscription though. Hopefully my laptop can run Psychonauts 2. I’ll get gamepass for PC if that’s the case! I genuinely didn’t know there was the $10 sub tier lol thank you

They are charging the same standard $60 that most PS4 games cost (same with Xbox One games).
Not sure how that's upgrade pricing when it's the same price PS4 games have cost for the past 7 years, whether or not they have an upgrade. It's a PS4 game (a really good one at that), and that's just how much PS4 games cost.
It's not like standard PS4 games all became cheaper the second upgrades were a thing for some games.

I couldnt get into this game after playing the masterpiece ratchet & clank rift apart. Everything just felt so cheap and simple

Off topic but do I need to play the first game to really enjoy this sequel? Or can I just jump in and have a good time while still being able to follow the story?
