- Returnal is voted the best game of 2021 by The Guardian
Just beat it last night! Incredible experience!ID: hpxwecz
I beat it at launch. Was the first game since Bloodborne that I became completely obsessed over. Yesterday I deleted my save file and started over, goddamn is this game amazing. All I want to do is play right now, but the wife commands Christmas movies on all day today.ID: hpya1f7
Funny you mention Bloodborne, it caught me in a similar way. The lore stuff was just so fun to try to piece together.ID: hpy27sq
But did you get the true ending though? If not, more game to play! 😉ID: hpxu3bl
thats good, but did you played the game? /sID: hpxykns
But that's not even sarcasm, it's just a joke?ID: hpxuniuID: hpxxtr8
Same! Took me 70 lives but finally got it.
Last boss was a disappointment though, I honestly thought it was a mini boss that showed us some of the mechanics that would be used in the actual final fight.
Rest of the game is amazing though.
Fucking stuck in Biome 4! Sometimes I love it, sometimes it's hell.ID: hpxrga8
Two things to fly through the rest of the game: Electropylon Driver and adrenaline leech.
Electropylon driver as a weapon is insanely strong and destroys everything, just hit them a few times and back out while their health drops to zero, the more perks you unlock for it it just gets crazier and crazier and it destroys bosses.
Adrenaline leech makes it so the higher your adrenaline level the more health you heal with every single amount of damage you do, your health heals back extremely fast and you're literally at full health at all times, it's almost unfair, without exaggeration you never need to worry about health again once you get it, prioritize that above everything first.
Another thing to prioritize is buying protection rather than health upgrades, you'll see places to buy "protection +10%" or parasites that offer +15% protection (typically with a negative that's not too bad, if it does something bad like health lost on every overload or something don't pick it up). You'll get plenty of upgrades for your health grabbing silphium items off the floor, the higher your protection the less damage you take. On one run I had about +45% protection and every hit I took did a tiny amount of damage to me rather than 15-20% of your health, protection is huge so grab anything that offers it.
Thanks for coming to my Returnal TED talk, cookies and light refreshments can be found in the lobby by the exit. Happy Holidays!ID: hpy48m4
Great tips! I want to add a couple of mine:Don't forget about your melee attacks! Melee is extremely powerful in the game. It can kill lesser enemies in one or two hits and easily stagger bigger ones. Don't be afraid to dodge into attacks. Since you're invincible during dodging, it is a useful way to close the gap between you and the enemy, and get a melee hit in. This might be obvious, but always be on the move. Do not get yourself surrounded. Make sure you have an eye on the layout of the room and a quick escape out if necessary. Use your grappling hook. You're invincible during grappling. Each room has multiple grapple points. Make sure to keep an eye on them.ID: hpxrz80
Thanks for the tips!ID: hpxqy8u
It will all be worth it once you get to the boss. One of my favorite lead ups to a boss ever in a game. The way the level hints at what is going on is subtle and the immediate lead up to him is special.ID: hpxrpc4
Try to find a good Electropylon driver in your next run. It'll melt literally everything in the game. Also, turn the sprint function to always on. That way you won't have to press L3 everytime you have to run.ID: hpxtvl3
Sprint always on is a massive QoL improvement. Games that require L3 to sprint actually cause me pain in my thumb joint.ID: hpxouw5
Not to be that guy, but biome 5 is way harderID: hpxpabc
Is it the snow one? Because Ive killed the biome 4 boss but have to grind so hard to get as far as the snow and then get demolishedID: hpy15cw
Fucking stuck in Biome 4
Get the Carbine, level it up to Leech Rounds and Rising Pitch.
You'll be unstoppable.
This game is incredible. Absolutely addictive and unique. GOTY 2021 for me and I played quite a lot of games this year trust me.ID: hpyb8hf
The game felt so fresh. Kept me engaged from start to finish and I was very motivated to 100% that thing. I hope we get more unique games like Returnal this generation.ID: hpycitf
Just give me a DLC to expand the story.
It’s my GOTY 2021 tooID: hpxt1k2
Me too. It’s one of my favourite games of all timeID: hpy6o2r
I like most people struggled with this game until I changed Dash to L1 and Jump to R1. Now it’s one of my favorite games of all timeID: hpxug3v
That’s R&C for me
Well deserved. Love Returnal and Housemarque.
Wife bought this for me for Christmas (along with a PS5, Spider-Man and Deathloop). I know nothing about this game other than people like it…ID: hpxqs3o
That’s what is awesome, you discover and learn as you go, kinda like playing a good board game and getting the hang of it the more you play. It’s nuanced and simple at the same time, you’re going to love it!ID: hpxu2rb
Honestly, keep it that way. I think figuring out what the hell is going on is half the fun.
i’ve never quite got the appeal of rougelikes (i played a few but got quickly bored with them) but here i am finished with act 3 and currently working on plat. as they say, it’s not for everyone but i personally like the hard ones.ID: hpxt3o3
For me the appeal is that (in general) the studios don’t need to focus too much on the story, but rather on the gameplay.
So we get a tight experience, were you need to get better at to beat.ID: hpxwyih
That said, the story is pretty damn cool in this game.
I've really wanted to get into this game, I really want to like it. I enjoy roguelikes, with Hades being obviously a standout.
I just can't get over starting with an unfun weapon, hoping to find a weapon I enjoy, but actually just find more unfun weapons. Everything else about the game I think is awesome.
To me, if the base gameplay bothers me, I won't stick with a game. If I had an unfun weapon and was randomly given a weapon I didn't enjoy every run in Hades, I'd have put the game down pretty quick. But instead, I pick the weapon I enjoy for its base gameplay, and then hope for some fun upgrades per run - it's fun regardless each run because I enjoy that weapon. This is just not the case in Returnal.
Please, please, please tell me it gets better in Returnal.
This is one of the few games I would consider a genuine masterpiece, there's just no other way I can put it. It's my GOTY without a doubt.
It took me 7 months to finally beat biome 3, and after that I somehow managed to fly through the rest of the game, then went ahead and beat it again in order to complete the real ending to the game (act 3), I seriously never thought I would beat it but I'm so glad I stuck to it and went to the end. The entire time playing I'm seriously in awe with everything; the dualsense features, the sound design, the art design, the captivating and mysterious music/story, everything is just incredible. The level of care and work that went into making this game is amazing.
One of the best games I've ever played and an experience I won't forget, it's a must have for the PS5.
Well deserved. One of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Love it. I need to go back for the platinum
It is much deserved
Wow. That's awesome. It's definitely one of, if not the most original game I played this year.
So good. Just so fucking hard and frustrating
Good, because it is.
Game was phenomenal. Anyone know if DLC is coming?ID: hpy9vbn
They said a month after release they were working on additional content
well deserved. such an awesome mix of gameplay elements..and the audio alone is worth the price of admission.
As it should
I'm so glad I took a chance and purchased this game on release. Love it!
My goty as well. Wishful thinking, but I really hope Housemarque are working on some dlc for it, I'd love to see a couple more biomes added.
I just got this on the sale on the store and I am loving it! Haven't beaten Phrike yet, but can make it to him fairly easily. Died like 15-20 times so far, but that "just one more run" feeling is STRONG. I don't know if I am good enough to beat the whole game but I am enjoying it immensely and this game is very special.
My goty as well. The 3D sound is just amazing in this game. A bit inconsistent in the difficulty, but holy crap what a game.
I think I hate returnal. It’s a terribly punishing game.
But I’ll probably put in another few hours tomorrow on top of the 80 I’ve already done.
Fuck you, and I’ll see you again tomorrow.
The Guardian has good taste in games.
