Frozen Wilds looked even better than base game

ID: htqsi9z

And the side quests were much better as well. The best DLC I have ever played.

ID: htqtntz

It and the Witcher 3 DLCs really stand out from the rest to me

ID: htrac69

"Will you stay with me while I initiate the hibernation process?"

"Of course, I will CYAN. As long as you need".

ID: htt20ay

Ok so I just started up horizon zero complete, beat it years back but never did the dlc, so I’m going back from scratch to get fresh with the story again before I cop the new one next month. So when should I do the dlc, you think?

ID: htr0dax

The snow was godly good looking

ID: htr13kg

That snow deformation tech is awesome, love seeing the aftermath of a big fight. Glad there will be snow in Forbidden West.

ID: htqsdn7

How have I never played this dlc? This shit looks amazing

ID: htqsjbc

Oh, it is...

ID: htr07jh

The color grading at night is the only thing that throws me off about the game. - it looks “green” and visibility is bad, at least in the DLC area. Maybe it’s by design. I’m only just noticing as I’m trying to finish Frozen Wilds all these years later.

ID: htsd2iv

It's definitely by design, the greenish hue at night is mostly in the forest areas, but it looks a lot more natural in a mountainous or desert area.

Also I absolutely agree, they needed to give Aloy a torch, or lantern or whatever light source to navigate the night. They could've done something cool where like the Focus augments her vision at night, fuckin anything really.

3 : Anonymous2022/01/22 17:58 ID: htrpfpc

Just beat it, great game! I found the characters and loot to be really dull. While the world is fantastic, there wasn’t much incentive to explore. Can’t wait to see the next one, though!

ID: htrtotq

This is the truth. I wanted better stuff. Worlds insane and the monsters. The interactions were a snooze fest sheeesh

ID: htrtw04

I found the sound to be absolutely amazing. I played with headphones and was in total awe most of the time

Yea and it doesn’t help that all characters have one facial expression

4 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:42 ID: htr4wss

Guerilla Games are wizards. They got some really really talented programmers to make games like this run this well on base PS4.

5 : Anonymous2022/01/22 14:27 ID: htquwoc

I played the first game when it came out on a 1080p tv and loved it. Now, after I brought my own home and got a PS5 I finally upgraded to a 65" LG C1 TV.

My god, this game looks and run amazing on both. The people who recommended that TV were not bullshitting, everything looks great and the PS5 runs it great to at 60 fps. Horizon legit looks like it can compete with current gen games in graphics so I can't wait for the 18th.

In the meantime, I can treat myself to finishing Horizon and my other PS exclusive in full graphical glory as I wait.

ID: htr2xs7

I’ve been thinking of upgrading to that tv myself. I don’t think horizon can do it but is the tv capable of 120hz and does it have HDMI 2.1?

ID: htr3xkk

It is and it does. I used the 120 hz mode with Vanguard.

ID: htr3ii1

yes

ID: htrh5pf

It’s pretty much the best gaming tv on the market. I have a Cx in my living room (65in) and a c1 in my gaming room (55in) and I don’t think I’ll ever buy a different tv.

ID: htralvu

Have you tried plugging your PC into your C1? How is the 65in size ?

ID: htria7c

Sorry, at most I have a work pc so I never tried hooking one up to it. Yet, I feel like a gaming PC would really benefit from a C1 since it has all the gaming feature a tv need to sign.

I'm digging the 65 inch a lot, super small border so you get the most out of the screen and it's real sleek, fits into my den with no problem on a stand. Going to eventually do some measurements for a corner mount so I can mount it on my wall.

ID: htrd146

On your LGC1, does the sound feels muffled when you play Zero Dawn?

I’m almost in the same boat as you. Played it first 2 years ago when the pandemic started. I had a 1080p Sony TV then. Recently bought the LGC1 65” and playing it again to prepare for Forbidden West. The graphics look phenomenal! But the sound quality for this game feels like audio is only coming out from one channel. I’ve got the game boost on. Changed the sound option to “cinema” which feels slightly better.

ID: htrwbew

Dude, if you're going all in on the TV you can't deprive yourself of a decent audio setup. At least something other than the built ins.

ID: htrht4z

On mine, not really. Compared to my old TV where I had to have the sound up to max to actually evenly hear anything, my tv out the box sounded a lot better. I then used an old sound bar I got for cheap and it improved the sound from there.

I'm playing Horizon now and tried moving across the room and everything came out evenly from all side.

6 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:02 ID: htqzi0d

I revisited for the platinum and was amazed at how good it looks. I’d say on PS5 this is still maybe top 10 best looking games.

7 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:41 ID: htr4w6z

I’m ashamed to say that I tried playing the original and gave it a few hours but just couldn’t get into it. It looks great and I know people love it. The combat just seemed out of my wheelhouse. I may give it another go though at some point. This looks great!

ID: htryox1

I dropped off after (potentially endgame??) massive battle that took like 20min and then I died and I couldnt be fucked trying it again. I also got a lil bored of how long it can take to take down some of the bigger machines. I enjoyed it for sure, but this sorta sci-fi is not really my thing.

In saying that, I've preordered the sequel and cannot wait to get into it.

ID: htraept

You’re not alone. I’ve played the first few hours multiple times and just can’t see why this game is so hyped.

ID: htrplge

Maybe get past the first few hours? Instead of playing it over and over?

ID: htrakk9

I found it really boring and a massive slog to play. Deliberately making the next checkpoint on the other side of the map isn't fun whatsoever.

ID: htrcua4

No idea what you are talking about. You can save at campfires every 200 meter. And the game will autosave all the time.

ID: hts041f

Why are you ashamed? It's okay to like different things. I personally thought it was boring and if it was made by Ubisoft instead of Sony it wouldn't get half the praise it did. Not a bad game but nothing special either, the open-world was lifeless and boring, as were the towns.

The combat was weird because the bow felt more like a rifle, I'd rather fire less arrows but have each one be more impactful. It gets somewhat better as you unlock more tools but the core gameplay remains the same. Hopefully the sequel improves on the combat, at the very least it looks like they've made fighting human enemies not completely horrible like it was in the first game.

8 : Anonymous2022/01/22 14:51 ID: htqxz9z

2017 isn’t that long ago…

ID: htrk3bd

Genuinely thought I was in

for a second.

9 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:26 ID: htr2pek

It's only been 5 years. The last gen was literally just a year ago before the PS5 came out. It does look amazing but we gotta stop the fake surprise LOL.

ID: htsagx4

Yeah its cringe as hell. OMG game from just few years ago STILL looks AmAzING

10 : Anonymous2022/01/22 20:48 ID: htsf1vs

I tried to like this game so much, but I couldn’t.

11 : Anonymous2022/01/22 13:29 ID: htqo68u

Started replaying recently. Really didn't feel like it but after a few hours I just got so into it it's incredibly. And I already have the Plat for it, so it;s not like it's new to me.

Excellent atmosphere and combat doesn't get boring.

ID: htqwniv

I gave it a few replays over the years. I usually play it start to finish over a few days. Just keeps me going

12 : Anonymous2022/01/22 13:48 ID: htqq9zm

It would be even better if it supported gyro/motion aiming.

ID: htqtcdi

That and the adaptive triggers for the bows would be amazing.

ID: htqre6t

Seriously I pray this will be included in Forbidden West.

Especially playing Zero Dawn back to back with Zelda Breath of the Wild the aiming was pretty rough.

Had trouble properly hitting airborne machines in Horizon Zero Dawn and my sibling who isn't big into shooters had lots of trouble even hitting targets in general.

Meanwhile in Zelda we were both able to shoot enemies directly in the eye no problem with gyro aim.

13 : Anonymous2022/01/22 17:15 ID: htriv76

Damn I guess I can't complain about spoilers in a 5yo game but I haven't got to Frozen Wilds yet so that was unexpected

14 : Anonymous2022/01/22 16:25 ID: htrb8do

As someone who bought the game but hasn't played. The gameplay looks frustrating as hell. Everything looks great but the damn jump bounce and shooting toothpicks 500 times to kill. I'm not trying to be a dick, but do the weapons get better?

ID: htrl2to

Your weapons get better, but there's a strategy to combat that involves using different kinds of traps and arrows to remove armor and weapons and then using basic RPG elemental rules against specific robots that makes it more than just spamming the enemies with arrows. You can do that, but it takes forever.

ID: htsfmzm

I hate that convoluted trap bullshit. It never felt intuitive or good to set up a trap. You would pre-emptively set them up and then the machines would go nowhere near them

then they they are attacking you you try to run away and set them but they just end up catching up to you, leaping on you or whatever and blowing up the trap along with you

15 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:14 ID: htr11cw

By using a stupidly tight FoV is how.

16 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:57 ID: htr76dx

Y’all gotta stop acting surprised when games from a few years ago have stellar graphics

There are games from 10 years ago that look better than a lot of the shit coming out today

ID: htsge7t

Battlefield 4 looks better than Battlefield 2042

18 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:25 ID: htr2kwa

I’ve always been a fan of single player story driven games and have read/heard a lot of this game in terms of praise and acclaim. Anyone wanna give me the gist of what it’s about?

19 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:43 ID: htr53p5

Thousands of years in the future, after some sort of disaster destroyed or displaced humanity, machine-animals have taken over the earth. There are some humans still alive on earth, split up into factions and each tribe has its own interpretations of what happened centuries ago. But suddenly the machines start getting more aggressive, and some new types of machines never seen before show up. You play as social outcast Aloy, who seeks to discover what is happening to cause these changes in the machines as well as get some answers to her own personal background.

20 : Anonymous2022/01/22 16:19 ID: htrac7u

Spoiler It's actually like just 1,000 years, which was really my only problem with the story. Even with all that tech it's going to take a lot longer than, I think it was 300 years when humans first emerged from the cradle? to restore a livable biosphere from the point of destruction it was at.

21 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:55 ID: htr6u1s

Where it shines is in lore and world building. You identify in the protagonist as she wants to know more of the world, and you do that step by step following the story. Something i don't see mentioned often is the attentions to details: you can understand the world not just through the main quest, but looking carefully at the enemies and their placement, at the places in the game or the collectibles. Usually this stuff is for gameplay purposes and is separated from the story.

The game has also a conventional storyline which is good, but not as good as the lore. It is well written and it is also quite mature, but in my opinion it does not develop enough some characters (including the protagonist).

If you are only interested in the story you can finish it in about 25 hrs, including DLC. In my opinion the gameplay is good enough to make you go for 100%. It is not a great open world experience because it has the classic markers that guide you through everything and kill any sense of exploration and discovery, but it isn't that bad either, because the extra activities are not that much and are not too repetitive. The combat against the machines is great because it has depth, thanks to the different ways to approach them.

22 : Anonymous2022/01/22 20:55 ID: htsg4fh

Big Donkus comes into town riding on a mechanized horse which prompts the world into chaos and 10,000,000 years later humanity rises up from the ashes into tribes of robot fornicating mad men who deal trade with GPS trackers and pistons.

One girl sets out to put the world humanity back together and together she and her robot dog "Gizmo" use primitive weaponry against robot tyrannasauruseses in a futile effort to make a difference.

"Console hardware holds PC graphics back"

Yeah... no.

24 : Anonymous2022/01/22 18:50 ID: htrxi44

Shame the fov is super narrow. I've not been able to even get past the first couple of hours. Makes me very nauseous sadly.

25 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:50 ID: htr62m2

Nani game that is barely half a decade old still looks good ? Damm almost like the engines it uses are build to be long used into the future?????????

26 : Anonymous2022/01/22 15:53 ID: htr6i52

Never got around to playing this yet. But its in my list to start after Eldenring. Then the sequel if i enjoy it as much as i think i will.

27 : Anonymous2022/01/22 18:27 ID: htrtycd

I wanted to play elden ring but those graphics to me are not good

28 : Anonymous2022/01/22 19:09 ID: hts0i77

There's more to games than graphics.

29 : Anonymous2022/01/22 17:18 ID: htrjbzu

Is that a moose bear?

30 : Anonymous2022/01/22 17:27 ID: htrkpsa

I beat the base game but never did frozen wilds, I got 4 weeks, think I can beat it!

31 : Anonymous2022/01/22 19:30 ID: hts3o14

Art designe trumps superior hardware, always.

32 : Anonymous2022/01/22 20:27 ID: htsbz5b

This is cool!

33 : Anonymous2022/01/22 20:49 ID: htsfawq

The first two games I played through when I got my PS5, were Spider-Man Remastered, and Horizon (still in the middle of playing Horizon actually) and let me tell you, it's been an absolute treat playing these titles for the first time on it.

34 : Anonymous2022/01/22 20:58 ID: htsgkq6

I thought the game had some of the worst pop in I’ve ever seen on the PS5.

35 : Anonymous2022/01/22 21:48 ID: htsnyxd

I can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps. Only really severe drops do I even care.

36 : Anonymous2022/01/22 22:30 ID: htsu57x

LOVE this game

37 : Anonymous2022/01/22 23:01 ID: htsyqxo

Your, uh, your combat skills could be a bit more refined

38 : Anonymous2022/01/22 23:22 ID: htt1v3q

games looked great post 2015 . this game looks like AAA game from 2017. nothing much changed in the last 5 years drastically.

39 : Anonymous2022/01/22 16:32 ID: htrc6t6

Because resolution doesn’t really matter

40 : Anonymous2022/01/22 16:34 ID: htrckyy

My only problem with is the fog which prevents you from seeing far. Every open world game has that magical moment, when you stand on a high vantage point and see the whole map. Not this one. You only see fog. Which is especially sad, because the main city is so high up. At least for the ps5 they could have changed it. It should have been able to handle this or is the engine just that bad?

41 : Anonymous2022/01/22 17:07 ID: htrhla5

I played through the DLC today and there's a bunch of pop-in and weird textures/movements. It shows it age, imo.

42 : Anonymous2022/01/22 17:28 ID: htrkrhp

Any word what graphic options the new one will have? I know we all love 60 fps now but for these exclusives I kinda feel like I want to go all in max resolution and details. Played Rift Apart in fidelity mode and absolutely loved how gorgeous it was.

43 : Anonymous2022/01/22 18:20 ID: htrsvou

It shows the game was built with 30 fps in mind, because on PS5 with it's glorious 60 fps character face expressoins like brow movement or frowning look like their speed is 2x the speed of everything else and it's quite hilarious. That it was not fixed that is.

44 : Anonymous2022/01/22 18:43 ID: htrwhsa

I think based off what we’ve seen especially in the gameplay trailer Forbidden West is gone be the best looking game ever to date.

45 : Anonymous2022/01/22 19:32 ID: hts3v6v

You know this brings up a good question:

Well Forbidden West have a 60 FPS mode? I don't think we've gotten a confirmation on that.

46 : Anonymous2022/01/22 20:56 ID: htsgaoq

I believe they did mention it last summer, but didn't see much buzz about it. Guess it aint official till Digital Foundry does their dealio
