- Original plan for Assassin's Creed series was for it all to end on a spaceship
-
damn, imagine a time where Assassin’s Creed could end
ID: htm2ly6ID: htmhqygSame i thought we would be running around skyscrapers with Desmond in assassin's creed 3 and we'd find out what was going on
ID: htmfwoyImagine if the series had ended with Desmond allowing the solar cataclysm to happen.
ID: htmg2a9Damn that seems like decades ago
ID: htmplwhThey changed to 7 games minimum after success of AC1. Nolan North confirmed it way back. Desmond was supposed to gain the memories and skills of many ancestors to become the Ultimate Assassin.
I wish they'd stuck to that. Desmond was awesome. The whiney babies ruined assassin's Creed. Instead of asking for better writing they just wanted Desmond gone. Seriously ugh. I hate people.
ID: htmj0u8i can't even imagine a single assassins creed game ending at this point, let alone the series
ID: htmy9cxLmao for real, I got maybe halfway through origins and couldn't imagine getting to the end
-
Those writers got moved to rainbow six siege.
ID: htmw4apWriters... Rainbow Six Seige....
Something doesn't compute here.
ID: htn0ygcYou know, the ones that put aliens in a Tom Clancy game
-
Or you know.... instead of killing Desmond at the end of Assassins Creed 3, they could have gone with the other option presented at the end of the game and...just... LET DESMOND LIVE BECOMING A NEW MESSIAH IN A POST APOCALYPTIC RUINED EARTH ENGAGING IN PARKOUR ACTIVITIES IN DESTROYED CITIES AND TRAVELING BACK IN TIME IN THE ANIMUS TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO FIND ARTIFACTS FROM THE FIRST CIVILIZATION IN ORDER TO RESTORE THE DESTROYED HUMAN CIVILIZATION.
Fucken idiots at Ubisoft.
ID: htmyggoHearing theories like this really brings me back to shooting insane and subjectively better theories (over what Ubisoft has given us) with my friends in highschool
ID: htn0j06I think everything they did after that game has been mostly bad to be honest. It was such a slap in the face to end it that way. I haven't played any Assassins Creed games since Unity, which was garbage. I've heard the newest ones are good, but meh, ill probably never bother!
ID: htndfx8The thing is that it the original writter got sacked because he didn't like that Ubisoft wanted to make an AC every year.
ID: htnec68Well they fucked up by letting him go because the whole narrative fell apart after that game!
-
It's pretty easy to forget nowadays that Assassin's Creed ever had some sort of overarching narrative.
ID: htmo95fOr Assassin's, and a Creed.
ID: htmtuaiGod dude. I remember playing the first and second one just like holy shit I'm in a secret fucking assassin's club. Now it's just shit.
-
Through 1 and 2 it felt as though we were being set up for a game 100% as Desmond in his timeline. I was always disappointed that that didn't go that way
ID: htmm9ezI feel like that had to be the original plan.

The ending to Assassins Creed 2 was pretty mind blowing at the time, but it’s been downhill ever since.
ID: htm87o8That and those glyph puzzles in 2 that show snippets of Adam and Eve were just so incredible. Playing that game along with all my friends and everyone trying to figure out what was going on really felt like they took the Lost formula and perfectly interpreted it as a video game. So many good memories.
ID: htmdlddTurns out it was supposed to be Desmond and Lucy. The original idea is great. Too bad money ruined it.
ID: htmrx8qOne of the rare times in a game where I wanted to find collectibles to complete the puzzle. I was so hooked
ID: htmebtpThere was something so cool about the glyphs in AC2, maybe it was my teenage brain but they felt so engaging at the time.
Despite the games improving (especially that early on) I feel like they never really made that element of the game as good as it was in 2
ID: htn4620Those glyphs are genuinely some of my favorite gaming memories of all time. Not sure anything will ever help me recapture that feeling, save for maybe an amazing mystery novel or something like that.
ID: htm33ymYep, first time a games ending has made my jaw drop. No other game has come close for me yet.
Although the ending of Odyssey nearly did 🙂
ID: htm5itzAssassin's Creed 3's prologue sequence got me pretty good. I was not expecting that at all.
ID: htmiue9Horizon Zero Dawn had like two or three such moments for me.
ID: htmdx5uThat end was what cemented it to me as one of my all time intriguing stories. The real story died with Desmond.
What they’re doing ever since feels like they’re trying to put together a smashed teacup. Just take us down mindfuck rabbit holes again man lol
Because of how little we knew of the game’s “larger world” things like the end of the second game feel revelational. You just didn’t know what you were getting into.
And the thing is, I think their audience still wants that mystique, but they seem more content with thinking we want to be dripfed this story that now feels slightly like a retcon with each new instalment.
ID: htmnnriIt also feels like the whole "overarching plot" is pointless because it will never get resolved anyway and even if you put it all together it makes no sense.
ID: htmk8e2I was super excited back when I finished both 1 and 2, it seemed like it had plans for a grand story and as it became clear the series was leaving that aside my interest waned, and with the latest releases I can confidently say I have no sliver of interest left and would be honestly glad if it all just goes away.

I was playing through Ac 2 again when I was down with omicron and it holds up so well. Night and day with Valhalla, look how they massacred my boy.. The Renaissance setting was so fully formed, with incredible music and engrossing story and atmosphere and so much details in the city and NPCs (‘he must be late, and she must be beautiful’ lmao). The new ones are very pretty but don’t get the same feel from them at all.
Not that Valhalla was even bad, just going back to the og city style stealth was great and I missed Ezio and Desmond.
-
I mean considering the tech the Isu had I wouldn't be surprised if they built a base on the moon.
-
NGL, I lost interest when Desmond died. The modern story was the most interesting story component for me.
-
Was always intrigued by the real life storyline and every year looked forward to what was going to happen.
Then they killed Desmond and Lucy and suddenly, there was no point to anything anymore. They introduced Gods like Juno etc and there was just no real point to any of it, it all went nowhere.
I'm halfway through Odyssey and the real life story is non existent and I'd imagine Valhalla will be the same.
I used to look forward to the next "chapter of the story" now it's just a mindless RPG, like everything else.
ID: htm7rgfI felt the same way after AC3, but I found Odyssey to have the first fun present day twist in awhile. While it didn’t ultimately go where I wanted it to, I hope you enjoy it.
ID: htm7vyfTo be fair, I'm very early in the game, but from previous experience in recent games, there's not been an emphasis on the story y'know?
ID: htmjk4wYup. It was kinda obvious early on that the endgame involved Desmond becoming a master assassin via his animus training and then having a big adventure in the modern day. But it was so popular that they just said “screw it, let’s just keep doing the same cryptic shit with different historical points”
ID: htm8lv4Valhalla is actually pretty modern day lore heavy. There’s not a lot of modern day gameplay. But there’s a lot of info and a lot revealed.
ID: htm8rvzThat's promising and good to hear.
I just hope it's not "too little too late"
In my opinion, they have a LOT to make up for in the past 5 years of games.
ID: htm7z3wFor me Valhalla story is good but if you want that link back to OG AC then it’s a nah. I stopped playing before I I got to the end because something was missing. All the gods, visions, mystery sudden trips to other worlds and the “you can only have nice things if you pay for them” just killed it for me.
-
The story for AC 1-3 was really interesting and something I looked forward too with each game. It’s too bad Ubisoft couldn’t figure out Desmond’s storyline. I remember playing AC3 in 2012 two months before the supposed 2012 doomsday prophecy and being a little freaked out how it corresponded with the current time. It’s sad to see the direction AC has taken story wise.
-
I lost interest when the Desmond Miles storyline ended. The idea of him becoming a modern day assassin was really cool, and I feel like they ruined it.
-
I thought it would have been wild if one of the early games ended with some unknown person getting out of an Animus who had been playing Desmond the whole time.
-
I know most people disagree, but I really liked the heavier emphasis on the sci-fi aspects. I was convinced it would eventually end with a modern-day setting with the final conflict between Assassins and Templars.
-
These games are missing something the previous entries had, AC used to be in my top 5 game series, easily. Now they just feel aimless, and hollow.
But they’re selling better than ever, so good for Ubisoft, I guess.
-
AC died with Desmond, I played a few more but without the modern day stuff is just "Random game about history" which apparently people love, but I absolutely hate, I loved the modern day stuff, it's what made the premise interesting, what gave purpose to getting in the animus. After that my interest started going down to the point that I bought the egypt one on sale and haven't even played it. I wanted Desmond to learn how to be an assassin and have a game in present time with Desmond being a badass assassin with current spy tech, but no, let's create "Generic Open World RPG #3435"

I was a fool when it first started. I was convinced it would end with the third game. :/
