- Uncharted 4: Devs Reveal Secrets Behind the Series' Best Chase Sequence - IGN's Art of the Level

Restricting it to best “of the series” is underselling it tbh. U4’s sequence is arguably one of the best chase sequences across all media.

To this day one of the most jaw-dropping set pieces in any game ever. The sheer number of different things that happen, the number of transitions in terms of types of gameplay, the technical and design ramifications of getting all of these different elements to trigger at the right time and mesh together, it's just stunning.

Interesting! I always love to hear clever memory hacks, like turning off physics for objects that settled. I remember watching something a while back where Naughty Dog talked about Crash Bandicoot, and how they were pioneers of rendering parts of the level and deleting others on demand. As you ran, it deleted areas behind you and loaded in areas in front of you. They also apparently overwrote/rewrote some of the PS1’s internal files with their own faster equations, which I found hilarious.
ID: htpn47gHaha I think that's from the Ars Technica "war stories" episode on Crash Bandicoot. I recall it somewhat differently however, it was something along the lines them needing more space so they overwrote on some of the space occupied by PS1 sony libs and as long as the game didn't "crash", they basically assumed they didn't overwrite anything critical.
ID: htriueyYup, that lines up with my memory, too. But I could swear they looked up some internal ps1 library files and went “these are done badly. We can calculate this stuff way quicker!”

Best gaming scene ever and it aint even close
-
Oh, that's the one that just goes on forever if you're too good at it.
-
Absolutely blows my mind how creative one’s mind must be to come up with these storylines, and have clear visions of what they want certain scenes to look like. Forever blown away at how some people are just able to create entire narratives in their heads out of thin air. Insane. Major props. Love this game!

I wish they never spoiled this part of the game at E3

Pretty bold to call this the best chase sequence when the ending of The Lost Legacy exists.
ID: hto89bjThat's just the ultimate set piece - UC2 and UC4 combined into one
ID: htonjt0The bit where you realise you're going to be transitioning from chasing the train to driving on the train has got to be the high watermark for gaming set-pieces. It's such a shame that so perfect a love letter to the Uncharted series is at the end of a spin-off relatively few people will have played while Uncharted 4 itself was fairly devoid of that kind of spectacle.
In general I feel like U4, while still amazing, sacrificed a lot of the balls to the wall spirit of the other games in favour of establishing a grounded tone to focus on character. But The Lost Legacy pulls out all the stops and feels far more akin to U2 and U3 in that regard.
ID: htoom5nAnd it didn’t get spoiled for E3 marketing
ID: htqvz0nI think 4’s was better but I still loved lost legacy

I really hope that the remaster contains gyro/motion aiming support.
It is so much better than sticks.
It would make the game more accessible too
ID: htohlwbYeah I'm hoping the remaster comes with the accessibility options from TLOU2. Especially the gyro aiming.
ID: htp090hSeriously, there's SO many shooting games I can't play cuz I can't do tiny motions without extreme pain from early-onset arthritis. If they had gyro aim like Breath of the Wild, I'd 100% be on board for many of these games.

There shouldn't be a comma after "biggest" in that sentence.

I just couldnt believe how awesome that scene was when I played the game
