Is this game any good? I haven’t played an NHL game since the PS2 era. I mainly play offline mode.

If you haven't played since then I'd say yea. Overall the gameplay is fairly solid especially if you use custom sliders and the franchise mode isnt bad either. Alot of the upset customers are the ones that buy every year since the changes year to year seem smaller than other sports games, but if you were getting it first time in a while I'd definitely recommend. It's on sale often as well

Is the career game mode any good?

I played it for the first time in about a decade 2 years ago. The core of the gameplay is almost identical - I felt right at home and picked up where I left off..

The issue for me is that I stopped playing because I found it to be so repetitive - like more so than any other sports game by a wide margin. It was just too much of the same thing, rinse repeat - and the online gameplay was dominated by cheesy plays and an ABSURD amount of racist team names/player names. I play online games and have for a very long time and this game seems way worse than others in that regard.
