- EA Refused to Disclose Battlefield 2042 Sales Figures, States Franchise Accounts for Less Than 10% of Their Portfolio

This is like when you turn in your exam but you folded it first.

That's like back in school when someone would brag about having the coolest new toy, then you'd ask to see it, and they'd say something like naw my mom won't let me bring it out.

Goes to show how much some companies put into certain franchises that even with relatively high sales they're black holes
Any other game finishing in the annual top 5 for copies sold would be a rousing success. But this now the second time, Battlefront 2 included, where they've finished that high but considered it a sales failure

"Tell me your game flopped without telling me your game flopped"

I think the series is dead, even if they fix the bugs it doesn't have a future as a cringe hero shooter because the game had a very niche (in modern terms) fanbase who were very much against that, but this fanbase won't generate the kind of revenue EA demands.
They will focus on Apex as their #1 title going forwards to battle with COD and Fortnite. The massive revenue generating segment of the market is 100% not-interested in anything outside of hero shooter battle royale games when it comes to FPS.
The money these games generate is insane and people will easily get fired if they suggest anything else in the boardroom meetings, no corporate environment like fucking EA is going to allow for independent creativity and risk taking, they are a full fat American business and that mentality died a very, very long time ago.

ID: hvbt6epBattlefield 5 flopped and now the new Battlefield flopped. It certainly doesn't bode well.
In the mean time, CoD is still the best selling game. Hell didn't last year CoD outsell Battlefield THIS year.
ID: hvcgyiiBf5 didn't flop.

They’ve really blown it with this franchise. BF3 and 4 had some of the most epic gameplay moments I’ve ever experienced in a game, I was convinced that if they played it right they could usurp COD as the biggest FPS. It’s just been nonstop disasters with this franchise, buggy games, scattergun direction, obnoxious MTX. Maybe toppling COD would be a step too far, but this series could have been amazing.
It says quite a lot that I used to be a hardcore fan of this series since the very first entry, and I accepted it going towards a more casual market with BC2, 3, and 4 (a lot of old school fans hated these games). I have several thousand hours between those few games. And yet now I’m out, they just keep fucking it up. I did play the 2042 beta because I prefer the modern setting, but thought it was terrible.
ID: hvb4wsiUnless COD massively fucks up and Battlefield recovers, I don’t ever see it changing. I think COD has a great pace to it, it’s small maps, lots of action, you die, but then you’re back in there. Battlefield, you can run for 5 minutes, die instantly, and then repeat. Battlefield has much more scope for amazing moments, but you walk a mile to get there, whereas COD can give you good moments more often
ID: hvbryqwThis. I always thought I would love Battlefield games more. Grand, large scale battles. Tried many of the Battlefield games.
But in reality I don't like large grand battles. I hate all that running around without much action. I hate vehicles too! I also don't like objectives. Had the most fun with simple deathmatch style modes where the only objective is to kill everyone.
It seems I like fast paced arena style shooters where there is constant action. Even if it's mindless twitch based action. My favourite multiplayer FPS games were games like Unreal, Half Life, Halo, Quake, Doom.
Then I played CoD which is supposedly the fast food of FPS games. I enjoyed it way more than Battlefield. CoD games feel similar every year.
But Battlefield games seem to progressively get worse. Forget about me (I am clearly the mindless CoD kind of guy), but it seems like even people who enjoy the type of shooter battlefield is trying to be don't like the game.
ID: hvb4umqWhat’s ironic is that they ruined their franchise by trying to mimic COD and Battle Royale MTX style of games. In the end it was just a sloppy directionless unfinished game. Dice isn’t the same Dice as before. That’s for sure.
ID: hvbb99fMain problem is a lot of these companies are prioritizing making the store and the microtransaction cosmetics without realizing that no one is going to buy your battlepass if the game sucks. Plain and simple.
ID: hvbjz6aBad Company 2 was probably my favorite multiplayer game of all time.
Engineer in hardcore, sneaking around and being used as a squad spawn behind enemy lines in rush. Nothing quite like it since
ID: hvb1dtwim in the same boat. its a real shame
ID: hvb1e6vBF3 and 4 had some of the most epic gameplay moments I’ve ever experienced in a game
They were good, but 2142 still stands as my favorite in the franchise. I don't think I've ever seen a person that played it that doesn't have at least a couple stories about that time they were on a titan map.
ID: hvbdmi2Battlefield is beating cod to its death

It sold between zero and infinity! See? The numbers line up!
-
"Less than 10%" of easily the largest AAA publisher outside the three platform holders is far more significant than they are trying to make this seem...
ID: hvbsvy6We no longer count Activision as separate?
ID: hvbs3xsYeah this. <10% of a billion (or whatever their actual sales are) is still a fuck ton of money. They are totally trying to underplay the damage.
ID: hvbv0i8Closer to six billion, but yeah.
-
I sure as hell didnt buy it
ID: hvallg7Me neither. Certainly a bad year, anecdotal tally of zero sales.
ID: hvb7qopNah I bought this rubbish.
-
FORGET SALES!
What's pathetic is how few people are still playing. The game is DEAD!
ID: hvbuecwIt almost makes you wonder if this is the reason they're hiding stats. The game was one of the highest selling games of 2021 and most games have their most sales during launch. So is it missing the sales forecast that's embarrassing.. or is it selling so much and retaining next to none of those people as regular players that's embarrassing.
ID: hvbzh1hGames on PS5, if you can find one, are like 50% bots.
It's pathetic.
Hard to believe how fast this series has fallen since the relatively fast BF1.
-
"pfft, I don't even care about that one, I have all these other better ones"
EA and taking constant Ls, name a better duo.
-
Of course they won't, EA is protecting their stock price; they're downplaying this failure to the public.
It isn't a coincidence that EA was also boasting about the growth and profitability of Apex and FIFA, recently.
-
really hope ea sells dice to either ms or sony ( i prefer sony )
-
Numbers must be pretty bad.
-
Damn. That bad, huh?
They should just go out and make Bad Company 3 before they shelve the IP.
ID: hvbqyy8They should sell the franchise to another company to make Bad Company 3...
-
10% of their portfolio is a shitload of money.
-
horrible game ~ fool me twice shame on me
ID: hvbdqkbFool me once, shame on, shame on you Ya fool me can't get fooled again
-
Isn't that illegal for a public company to do? The fuck
ID: hvalw01Nah, MS never releases sales Numbers either
ID: hvamb3nyet they reveal the "total players" for FTP games lol. Funny how EA/MS only reveal numbers when it looks good. Even movie studios have the balls to reveal when their movies flop.
ID: hvas5psWhy would it be?
ID: hvanklqNope
ID: hvb4t0bNo, why would it be?
They have an obligation to report fiscal data for the company as a whole. They have no obligation to report granular, non-fiscal data. Otherwise, we would know a hell of a lot more about most video game sales than we do now.
ID: hvbjxneProbably to shield us from the horrible truth that MTX sales account for like 90% of the industry revenue /s
ID: hvbth0mWhy would it be illegal? You disclose sales at different levels. But you don't have to disclosure super granular sales by each individual product. The battlefield sales are still in their accounts. They just don't break it out for us so we don't know how much it has sold.
ID: hvbumthIf it was "public" like the government is public then it would be. But being traded and being public in that manner doesn't require them to do anything.
-
So basically they're probably ashamed by the sales and don't want to publicly show it, if anything this almost solidifies that the game sold poorly.
-
And yet it was still the number 5 best-selling game in the US in 2021 per the NPDs.
(Only Madden, two Call of Duty’s and Pokemon did better)
-
Aren’t they a public traded company?
-
They report the money, but they don’t have to report every detail all the way down.
