Imagine how many more they would've sold if there weren't supply issues due to chip shortages.

ID: hv8tg5v

And the thing is, it will probably be at least another 12 months before the chip issues starts to ease. Well here's hoping. Glad I managed to get mine at launch, as I would rather eat yellow snow than to give the scalpers any of my readies.

Still can't get over the numbers it's doing.

ID: hv8tqwj

I got mine in March 2021 since I thankfully got on a waitlist, I really hate that scalpers ruined the launch for a lot of people.

ID: hv8wn44

I might aswell wait for a slim version at this point

ID: hv92ai6

It's kinda misleading to say there are supply issues due to chip shortages, as it implies that the industry can't make as many chips as it used to. It's the other way around, we've never manufactured as many chips as we are, it's just that even with every chip factory in the world running at 110% capacity there's still way more people that want chips than can be made. The supply has never been higher, it's really more of a demand issue: we need new chip factories to deal with the massive demand. And that's why it's taking such a long time to solve that issue, you can't build a new plant overnight.

ID: hv93vz7

Also Covid fucked a lot of supply lines and that chip factory burnt down

ID: hv9o9pg

Yeah, pretty much everything has some kind of chip in it.

ID: hv9tq85

You know COVID has disrupted every step of the supply chain for the majority of goods too, right?

ID: hv9qu2n

we need to stop putting chips in shit that dont need it.

Side note Sony picture is the entertainement division that is the most profitable during last quarter, crunchyroll addition and spiderman carried hard, it's the second time since 2018 that PS(not counting SIE in general) isn't the most profitable division during a quarter.

The power of spiderman (and anime) is really something, when spiderman 2 gonna drop the revenue of the ps division gonna skyrocket.

ID: hv92s0t

I wonder how much forbidden west will help soon.

ID: hv97bhs

for the record, i bought my ps4 to play spiderman and bought my ps5 to play miles morales.

i’ve since delved into the world of all the other AAA exclusives and other massive and awesome titles, but spiderman was absolutely the gateway drug.

ID: hv9i8xn

Spider-man, Anime, and PlayStation. That's Sony alright.

ID: hv9lnjs

They are obviously more than that lol, this is only the biggest part of their entertainement business.

ID: hv8ymql

If Sony combines PS+ w/ PS Now figures out how to make PS3 games download able and tosses in a Crunchy Roll subscription for under $30 a month or $300 a year, there's no way I won't sub for that shit.

ID: hv93yzh

30 usd per month is quite a lot of money. I can buy a year of ps plus for 40usd. I won‘t complain if we get Tiers..

Tier one : classic ps plus Tier two : classic ps plus and ps now Tier theee : ps plus , ps now and crunchyroll

4 : Anonymous2022/02/02 06:30 ID: hv8tycm

Some numbers:

2nd biggest Quarterly Revenue ever for PlayStation (and for any platform holder). PlayStation reached an all-time high of U$8.27 billion (¥930 billion) Revenue in a single quarter, a new record for the whole game industry. PlayStation reached an all-time high of U$26.04 billion (¥2868 billion) Revenue in 2021 and set a new record for the whole game industry. During this quarter, more than 11.66 PS4/PS5 games have been sold each second in the world (= 1.01 million games sold each day).

Source

But I bet the headlines will be: PS5 is behind PS4 in terms of sales

ID: hv8v3bl

You're absolutely right about the headlines. Controversy gets more views than the truth, unfortunately. PS5 not as profitable as the PS4; Leads Sony to produce more PS4 consoles

Journalism....gotta love it

ID: hv91hku

It's like you can only become a journalist when you can twist facts and make the truth look different

sigh

ID: hv9kni8

and for any platform holder

and

Revenue in a single quarter, a new record for the whole game industry.

and

Revenue in 2021 and set a new record for the whole game industry.

Where is this information in your source? I can't find it.

5 : Anonymous2022/02/02 10:05 ID: hv9b24t

what kind of magical power do I need to possess to get my hands on the PS5?

ID: hv9p1sd

Persistence. Join a telegram notify channel for ps5 stock updates and try for it immediately every time there's a restock. I managed to buy a PS5, XSX and switch OLED through that method. It will help if you download the mobile apps for each of the retailers that stock PS5s, get signed in and have your default payment and shipping set up for a faster checkout.

ID: hv9g9p7

Subscribe to a regional stock update twitter account and be willing to pay for overpriced bundles

ID: hv9h8la

awesome :,)

ID: hv9u7c3

Follow a Twitter account, which informs you about retail drops. That's what I did for a week or two, until I got one.

ID: hv9znbq

what others said - twitter with notificatoins. I felt like an idiot watching some guy on youtube discussing how to navigate the quirks/bugs of each retailer's site, but ultimately it's why I got one. Got the notification, remembered what he said about checking out at that specific store, and boom.

6 : Anonymous2022/02/02 11:24 ID: hv9hffw

Imagine how many they could´ve sold if they had a decent supply

7 : Anonymous2022/02/02 12:10 ID: hv9llx5

Imagine if they had PS5 for all who wants to buy it.

8 : Anonymous2022/02/02 11:09 ID: hv9g4sp

Still healthy numbers considering the climate. I got lucky with my PS5, it was a headset bundle.

9 : Anonymous2022/02/02 14:02 ID: hv9yjb4

That’s actually quite a lot. They are making more than I thought

10 : Anonymous2022/02/02 12:28 ID: hv9nepa

I hate that I can't make the "sold to who" joke because I have one now lmaooo

11 : Anonymous2022/02/02 10:47 ID: hv9ed8i

Disappointing that this is still such a major issue. I hope they managed to procure more parts to boost production throughout 2022.

ID: hv9lr1w

Doubtful. But maybe 2023/24

ID: hvaclch

Supply issues are supposed to ease up mid this year. So 2023 should be a lot smoother.

12 : Anonymous2022/02/02 06:08 ID: hv8rvy5

Glad to have bought 3 for me and the lads

ID: hv8s4si

Hey its me, a lad

ID: hv8xecw

Hey Monarkey540 it's me, your lad. Let's go bowling sometime, maybe we can catch up

13 : Anonymous2022/02/02 06:12 ID: hv8s8j4

Damn, almost 3 million less than the PS4 in the same timeframe.
The chip shortage hit them harder then expected.

ID: hv8t8pk

At least there’s still developers making awesome games!

ID: hv8sug6

It’s only 1.2 million, ps4 was 18.5

14 : Anonymous2022/02/02 10:41 ID: hv9dvnu

I’d happily make it 17,300,001.

15 : Anonymous2022/02/02 13:22 ID: hv9tbl9

And a year later I'm still serching for one

16 : Anonymous2022/02/02 15:03 ID: hva7c1e

They would have sold 17,300,001 if I had ever walked past one in a store.

17 : Anonymous2022/02/02 07:18 ID: hv8y4rz

It's for both consoles. Both Sony and Microsoft having trouble making enough fir demand. Xbox Series S, the one most don't want, are easier to get now so there's that.

ID: hv99aou

I don’t get why MS bundle the S and X into the same sales numbers. They’re different consoles

ID: hv9ipdf

Because they are effectively same consoles. People buying either will get Gamepass or Gold and buy same games. Not like MS gives a fuck if one plays 1080p and other 4K when they report numbers...

ID: hv9gyhf

Sony would lump together all variations of the PS4 including the pro into the same figures. The only thing Microsoft did wrong was naming the console "series" which shifts the emphasis into the following words or letter. If they called it Xbox Two X and S, it would make sense to refer to them as "Xbox Two" collectively (just as we did with PS4 and Xbox One). "Xbox Series" sounds wrong but it's no less accurate.

ID: hv8z76s

“The one most don’t want” it’s still selling like crazy. They’re much easier to make than the Series x or PS5

ID: hv8zv29

It's selling because the better consoles are harder to get, isn't it? I'm honestly wondering if it would be of any interest to anyone except the most casual gamers / gift givers if the better options were easily available.

18 : Anonymous2022/02/02 13:15 ID: hv9sjeu

Half the world would have bought it if it had been available.......
