- Sifu - Review (SkillUp)

Man, I just really liked this review! Whether a game is "good" or not is sometimes far less important than whether or not if it is built for people like you. Especially with niche games like this where difficulty/progression is unorthodox. That is to say, I really enjoyed this particular review because it went beyond the usual thumbs up/thumbs down aesthetic. I can tell this would be a fucking nightmare for someone like my brother who hates repetition and strive-for-perfection-or-die gameplay, whereas I live for those experiences.
That delineation is exactly what a review should provide. Great job SkillUp!
ID: hvu24mwID: hvub4xdThat's why I like him too. I know what he likes and dislikes about a gane and can base my likes and dislikes from it. Something he may find dull and seen 100 times like jrpg tropes are up my alley and a positive vs his stance. When you use Gamespot or ign you're not getting a single person's opinion with consistency that you can base your likes and dislikes off of so it's harder to pinpoint how you're going to enjoy the experience. This is actually why back in the day I used to really enjoy Game Informer. It would tell you who was reviewing something and then give you a secondary review by someone else you could then go and look at their character bios to see what kind of games they like and were able to form an educated opinion on how you could interpret those reviews.
ID: hvul1atCan't comment on "best" as I watch very few YT reviewers, but he is excellent. One of my go-tos to see if I'm going to like a game. He is the most gameplay focused reviewer I've seen too.
I also like his attitude re: developer well-being and so on. Not to mention his nod in this video to the conversation around accessibility options in video games. Things some of my other go-tos either never mention, or handwave away.
ID: hvusmfbHe’s hit and miss. At times, he’s a pretty competent, thorough reviewer. Other times, he either embellishes his opinion way too much or he goes so hard in the opposite direction, it becomes tough to take his work seriously. He’s not my go-to.
ID: hvuj9qhYeah same. I hate outer wilds shill up though.
ID: hvuvx0bLike when he reviewed Cyberpunk 2077? It delivered he said...without mentioning the cut content the the braid dead AI. If cyberpunk was made by EA or Ubisoft he would grill it on launch.
ID: hvuc5a2SkillUp is great, the most comprehensive review-tuber by a loooong way.
His review titles are normally "I strongly recommend/recommend/don't recommend" very telling that it's just "review", it shows this won't be for everyone, but ultimately is a fantastic title.
-
Really good review, too many sites just slap a rating on whike he actually lays out who this game will suit and who it wont
-
I saw there is a limited run of a physical edition coming sometime in May. I saw it up on Playasia but looks like the European version only. Just FYI for those into the physical stuff. I might be holding off for that but this game looks great.
SkillUp and ACG are my two go to's for determining if a game is worth my time. There's been a number of times my personal tastes differ from theirs but they do a pretty thorough job of explaining the game.

hope they fix the download issue today
ID: hvuf63xRegarding Sifu early access - I went on PSN, downloaded a PS+ game and went back to my library collection and Sifu was able to download. Workaround for now in case those couldn't get it to download.
ID: hvuihl1This actually work thank you
ID: hvujqfiWorked for me too, thank you!
ID: hvuiakdFixed now.

I honestly was not interested in.this game until I saw this review. He makes stuff look really fun.

Looks like SIFU landing so far with some generally solid reviews. A lot of gamers may have slept or overlooked it
ID: hvuc5kbThis is one game where whenever I showed anybody the trailer they would ask “what’s this game?”
I’m playing through Dying Light 2 and really enjoying it. Sifu is next on my list and I’ll buy it as soon as I’m done with DL2. Elden Ring and Horizon can wait. I’ve waited long enough for a good hand-to-hand combat, ever since Sleeping Dogs.
ID: hvuv91cThe problem with Sifu is that's its come out at the worst possible time in between the likes of Pokemon, Dying Light, Horizon and Elden Ring.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure if this game is my mind kind of thing.
I'll give it some thought.
-
I got to play it for 5 minutes before having to leave for a birthday party. While I’m sad I couldn’t continue, I can confirm those 5 minutes of beating the shit out of people was fun.
-
this review made me realize that this game isn’t for me at all, glad i watched it before buying
ID: hvurvcsyep, me too
-
I actually disregarded this game before as some casual generic fighting game. But it's the opposite of that. It's like Cuphead in a way where you have to train that muscle memory until it kicks in and you master it, which is exactly up my alley. I'm definitely going to get this at some point.
-
Great review. I would have swapped how he did the explanation of the structure of the game before the fighting mechanics. It would have given instant understanding of just what progression through the game would entail from the player rather than finding that out after the fact.
This helped me find out that Sifu is a little too hardcore in its unforgiving structure and memorization of combos for someone like me who just likes to sit down with a game and chill. Will be looking to pick up on sale later on down the road though.

isn’t this the guy who said cyberpunk 2077 was the best game ever?
ID: hvu6kajHe didn't say that.
If you are refering to his review, you can watch it here, where the guy talks about the things he did like, he didn't like and the bugs and issues that the game had at the time on the PC version.
It's 50 mins long tho, so don't expect going there to read a single spicy title/tweet/take, just to spread simplified/fake opinions from others on forums, like lots of people do.
ID: hvu6nd9Did you just managed to sum up a 53min long review in a few words?
No, you didn't.
ID: hvtqd24No? He just thinks the game is worth your time when all the bugs etc. are fixed
He does think The Outer Wilds is the best game ever
ID: hvts78eOuter Wilds is a 10/10 game. Do you mean The Outer Worlds perhaps?
ID: hvtqlkbThat was yongyea. Skillup was one of the few reviews that covered bugs and he even said he was doubtful the day one patch would fix the issues.
ID: hvu6vgbAlso he is one of the few reviewers who refused to release his review using ONLY CDPR provided footage.
ID: hvtv4r3The day 400 patch hasn’t fixed things either.
ID: hvtqiupHe didn’t experience the big bugs like most people did. I know a few people like that.
Me? Couldn’t make it out of the first building after 15 minutes because it crashed every time i entered the open world
ID: hvtozcbMost of the gaming media said that

SkillUps reviews are bad tbh. He's not to be trusted. His outrider review is garbage and cyberpunk review is full of factually wrong statements and not mentioning many things wrong with the game. I could go on and on. If the review wasn't paid, then it's even more sad. But yea anyway, sifu is a 9.5/10 game in my book
ID: hvtwoifYou can't call someone's subjective experience with a video game as "factually wrong" lol
ID: hvud7lgA subjective review of a game can contain objectively wrong statements....?
ID: hvuq2ifI know, opinions are opinions. And I'm not talking about that. That's why I said factually wrong. Some of his statements are factually wrong. I'm not talking about his opinions.
ID: hvtv8kxYou’ve played it?
ID: hvuqi8kNo, I'm talking out of my ass. Yes, i played it
ID: hvty8p5He also shit on Deathloop like two months after it came out. That review just reeked of contrarianism for no reason. He also was so dramatic with his R6 Extraction review. I’m enjoying it and the general consensus is that it’s not amazing but it’s not bad. I don’t trust his reviews. He just seems like a classic “rage-tuber”
Edit: Skill Up fanboys forgetting his Cyberpunk review. Keep thinking he’s not just a rage-tuber lmao. No, no, your favorite reviewer is just different right?
ID: hvu1z36[deleted]
ID: hvusy63He most of the times just says what's most popular to say, and what doesn't go against the herd. Same with Yong yea. Both were shilling cyberpunk on launch, but whenever they talked about it afterwards they were harsh on it suddenly because that was the popular thing to do.
ID: hvuiiy8You know a review isn't someone stating a fact, right?
Like, you are fully aware that reviews are simply someone's opinion, not them stating an actual fact?
It's legit concerning that you don't know what a review is.
ID: hvu0tzqYeah I don’t agree with his Deathloop review, but also can’t fully trust someone who praises Destiny 2 the way he does. Yes, the shooting mechanics are great, but the game has so many other problems lol
ID: hvus748His Deathloop review was spot on imo. He said at the start why it was late.
-
Sounds like a horrible grind fest to me.
-
Man Ranton's review will be hilarious. I hope he plays it. But he is noob
-
There must be some pretty fucking talented eighth graders where you live then bud
-
No idea.
The npc animations are janky and the voice acting is horrendous. It may be fun but facts are facts.
-
Holy shit what eighth graders where you live could create something like this lmao. I get if it's not to your liking, but stuff like this objectively requires a lot of skill to pull off
-
I’m sure it does. I know it does. But it’s pretty obvious that the npc animation and voice acting is not good.

Skill Up is IMO the best reviewer on Youtube right now. I don't always agree with him but I always get a clear picture of what the game is and why he does or doesn't like it.
