Rumor: Avalanche Studios May Be Developing Mad Max 2
2 : Anonymous2022/02/16 06:41 ID: hx5680e

Someone said that the person shared this confused the game with "RAGE 2" and instead called it Mad Max 2, since they both look alike and RAGE 2 was definitely influenced by Mad Max franchise.

Just for the heads up, trying to set the expectations right so you won't get disappointed at the end.

Even though it may not be real, I still want a Mad Max game in my life, building on what definitely worked in 2015 game, and build on top of it, making it so much better and immersive. Please make it happen...

Rage 2 was also partially developed by Avalanche.

Rumor is based on a tweet by some creative person who posted a throwback pic from way back in 2017 when she was being 3D scanned for a game model in Mad Max 2 (according to her ofc).

So my opinion is that the game has been more or less abandoned/canceled as we are talking about WB games and they are notorious for doing that.

ID: hx78nqi

On the other hand, WB Games are also notorious for long development cycles - see 8 year gap in games from Rocksteady.

There is a chance they are being a little more ambitious with this Mad Max game. There is also another Mad Max movie in development, they may just be waiting for everything to line up with that release to get the maximum impact.

But there is a good chance it is cancelled.

Especially since the first one was a huge flop

Why am I getting downvoted? The game did not sell well at all. That’s what a flop is you idiots

ID: hx6cj9k

I suspect there were a lot of people like me who WITNESSED Mad Max: Fury Road in all of it’s glory in the theater in May 2015, but by September 2015 had somehow been busy or not hyped about the game for whatever reason. And then years after the fact, got around to playing it and found it to be a perfectly capable AA game with some really visually stand-out storms and some fun driving and upgrades. I think we’d all grown up having it burned into our heads that movie tie-in games are never as good as the movies.

I originally bounced off of this on the PS4 at 30fps and only recently tried played this on the XSX with FPS boost all the way to 120fps and what a difference that makes!! I’d love to get a remaster for the resolution and fps with DualSense support for haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for the harpoons and guns, with 3D sound that you can really hear in the storms. It deserves another chance, if not a sequel.

It came out on the same day as MGS V, effectively killing any chance it had. I did platinum the game later after it came to PS Plus and it was ok. The car combat was kinda fun

ID: hx6vuu6

It was definitely a flop, but the game is actually fantastic. I suspect he downvotes are because the game has a weird cult following at the moment.

This subreddit is shit.

Mad max was severely underrated what a fun game, nice open world, lots of activities, run incrediblely well, and looked good

5 : Anonymous2022/02/16 06:35 ID: hx55n31

first was fantastic

ID: hx61b3p

Yeah I’m surprised we don’t already have a sequel. Must not have sold well.

ID: hx6nxx0

I believe it came out the same day (or at least the same week) at Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain. I think it sold almost 2 million and that was still under expectations.

ID: hx6cug6

Really? I couldn't finish it.

ID: hx6fvxg

yes

6 : Anonymous2022/02/16 07:36 ID: hx5aoy3

The Mad Max game was a truly underrated masterpiece. Had issues here and there for sure but overall, it was an unfortunately forgotten gem.

ID: hx5jo8u

Masterpiece is a bit strong but I agree it was underrated. I had a lot of fun with it.

7 : Anonymous2022/02/16 07:30 ID: hx5a7w4

We live, we die, we live again! Witness me!!!!!!!

8 : Anonymous2022/02/16 14:02 ID: hx68xay

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.

9 : Anonymous2022/02/16 08:49 ID: hx5g9pa

First game is good.

10 : Anonymous2022/02/16 11:26 ID: hx5s6qb

God I hope so.

11 : Anonymous2022/02/16 11:31 ID: hx5sl90

I want to believe. Such a good game.

12 : Anonymous2022/02/16 11:38 ID: hx5t5h5

God, I hope that's true. I had an absolute blast with the first one and still can't believe they had such detailed and well made expulsions for a 2015 PS4 game

13 : Anonymous2022/02/16 11:41 ID: hx5th5q

Greeeaaaaat combustion!

What a fantastic and underrated game this was. Was incredibly surprised by how great and amazingly fun it was.

ID: hx6o88l

The mighty duster!

14 : Anonymous2022/02/16 12:53 ID: hx60kxn

Personally would LOVE to see this actually happen. Was a cracking good by-the-numbers open world game. The IP just didn't click with enough folks to warrant a sequel I think.

15 : Anonymous2022/02/16 13:07 ID: hx624ra

Loved the game and I'd love another, but not unless George Miller is involved intimately with the writing until the very end. I liked the idea of the first game's ending, but it didn't feel true to the established character. The abruptness and brutality of it fits what the world 'should' be, but as a story, mmph.

16 : Anonymous2022/02/16 13:10 ID: hx62igg

One of the most underrated games ever

17 : Anonymous2022/02/16 13:55 ID: hx682gi

I wish they would. The first one is incredible for a first entry. A timely sequel could have produced a really great game.

18 : Anonymous2022/02/16 14:45 ID: hx6erle

Loved that game

19 : Anonymous2022/02/16 05:59 ID: hx52dl1

Please be true

20 : Anonymous2022/02/16 10:33 ID: hx5nw4c

Mad Max was the sort of game that was fun for the first few hours, but then every mechanic they had just got tedious. The world they built was very desolate and empty, which is good because that’s what the Mad Max world is like, but the things they had in them were generic and uninteresting. The story was pretty dogshit. The vehicle combat was cool, but got way too boring by the end, becoming just a ‘shoot a grapple, shoot a grapple, shoot a grapple, yay you’ve done it’ sort of thing. It definitely had some cool things in there, but it really fell flat. A lot of refinement needed if there would be a second one.

And to all the people calling it a masterpiece, please just stop. It doesn’t even come close to games of its time, let alone stand up against true masterpieces. Did it go under the radar? Yes. Is it underrated? Partly, but not massively. It’s a game that showed promise but failed to really do anything with it

21 : Anonymous2022/02/16 09:06 ID: hx5hiqp

Don't have much confidence in Avalanche. Rage 2 was boring repetitive garbage with a super forgettable story. Mad Max deserves better.

ID: hx5k802

The other Mad Max game is really good though

22 : Anonymous2022/02/16 11:08 ID: hx5qo8j

Still need 60fps on the first one

23 : Anonymous2022/02/16 12:36 ID: hx5ypii

I would love a new Just Cause for PS5.

24 : Anonymous2022/02/16 05:46 ID: hx5153d

Which avalanche? The ones who made Disney infinity, or the ones who make just cause 3 with so much motion blur at launch that it made people sick, then proceeded to make the exact same mistake with just cause 4, showing they're incapable of learning from their mistakes?

ID: hx54it4

Uh, I get that you’re trying to force in a jab at them for something you didn’t like with JC, but that doesn’t even make sense.

Even if you conveniently ignore the fact that it says “Avalanche Studios” and not “Avalanche Software” it wouldn’t be very hard to come to the conclusion that it would be the ones who made the first Mad Max and not the ones who made Disney games

25 : Anonymous2022/02/16 08:19 ID: hx5e3dp

Kind of odd they are doing it now, so long after.

26 : Anonymous2022/02/16 11:23 ID: hx5ruo6

Would play

27 : Anonymous2022/02/16 13:18 ID: hx63g6f

The Road Warrior!

28 : Anonymous2022/02/16 13:58 ID: hx68eth

I waited too long to play the first game and now you can't get one trophy. Forever unable to complete, soured me greatly on it.

29 : Anonymous2022/02/16 15:45 ID: hx6nslb

Hopefully it'll be on PS5, the last Avalanche game was published by Bethesda and I think they have a deal with Microsoft for their next.

Mad Max was excellent.

30 : Anonymous2022/02/16 16:31 ID: hx6v1ch

First one was so goddamn repetitive tho

31 : Anonymous2022/02/16 16:56 ID: hx6yxph

It wasn't the best game in the world but it did some pretty interesting things. The concept of the roving caravan of trucks and cars you had to take down was super fun and the super storm mechanic was great.

32 : Anonymous2022/02/16 17:11 ID: hx71dyn

I'd like to see these guys try their hands at a Tank Girl video game.

33 : Anonymous2022/02/16 17:42 ID: hx769pn

Oh man if thats true i'll be over the moon. Mad Max is a fantastic game. As long as they keep the spear on the car so i call pull shit down and impale enemies again. Good times!

35 : Anonymous2022/02/16 18:17 ID: hx7aypy

Good they should. That game was rad and didn’t seem like anyone talked about it.

36 : Anonymous2022/02/16 20:25 ID: hx7uy7z

Loved that game

37 : Anonymous2022/02/16 20:55 ID: hx7zh3b

I enjoyed the first one so much when it was free on PS+ that I will buy the sequel if they make it,

38 : Anonymous2022/02/16 20:57 ID: hx7zuv2

I play mad max 2x a year since its been out. One of the most underrated games to me. Still hoping for a part 2

39 : Anonymous2022/02/16 21:10 ID: hx81tus

Would be nice if they released a 60 fps patch for the PS5.

40 : Anonymous2022/02/16 21:25 ID: hx843k7

Fucking hell I hope this is true. I was literally lamenting the unlikelihood of this last week.

41 : Anonymous2022/02/16 22:19 ID: hx8cezl

Please Be True

42 : Anonymous2022/02/16 23:05 ID: hx8j3gm

No way

43 : Anonymous2022/02/16 07:18 ID: hx598f3

They don't know how to write story's or do side missions right. I hope they figure it out
