Jeff Grubb talks about upcoming Microsoft event in his latest podcast

1 : Anonymous2021/03/06 16:47 ID: lz5kca

From his Twitter feed, he also mentions:

Also, I'm pretty sure that our Bethesda/MS talk is exactly how it's going to happen. Event soon. Lots of talk about what the acquisition means. Stuff coming to Game Pass. And then Beth still operating separately through E3 because June is distressingly close.

Oh, and no real game announcements or release dates at this event. They will save that for E3.

Probably referring to the rumored Microsoft event this month.

2 : Anonymous2021/03/06 16:52 ID: gpzd8x0

pretty much how i imagine how it would go down. Small PR event with a brief and in-depth talk in the acquisition. No major game reveal, maybe a trailer or confirmation on Deathloop and Ghostwire coming day 1 pc gamepass. Meanwhile the Big Game reveals come at E3 with whatever else Xbox has behind their sleeves.

be a good talk i reckon

ID: gpzgf9m

I doubt Day 1 PC Game Pass would happen for Deathloop and Ghostwire. I know there’s probably no rules against it, I just don’t see it happening.

ID: gq4jhna

I agree. Though I personally think we’ll finally get either a release date or a new trailer for Starfield.

Man, without trying to suck him off too much, thank god for Jeff Grubb. In this slow moving time where the days just blend together its so refreshing to have someone who isn‘t a random „Insider“ using a random alias to throw wild shit out there claiming it to be true. If Grubb isn‘t sure about something he‘ll say it, if he‘s fairly certain he doesn‘t claim it to be 100% true. He did miss a couple of times but damn, this dude is a saint giving us hope for reveals and whatnot when companies keep quiet out of fear they‘d then have to delay things (or just want to keep quiet). Thank you daddy Jeff, please show feet

ID: gq100iv

he made 2020 bearable with his summer games mess. i really appreciated how he hinted at things without giving them away (such as tony hawk reveal being about something called -man, a reference to Tony’s nickname bird man)

ID: gpzmwjz

Eh, there’s been a lot of leaks and info from other insiders like Jason Schreier, Imran Kahn, Jez Corden, Klobrille, etc.

ID: gpzr128

Just suck him off all the way my guy

ID: gpzswrx

hasn't he been an absolute clown? heavily open ended tweets and statements that make it seem like he knows more than he does wrapped up in bits of personal speculation?

even this tweet. its 100% speculation from his own opinion lol

4 : Anonymous2021/03/06 18:12 ID: gpzpf64

I know its mean, but Jeff always looks like he just woke up lol.

5 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:28 ID: gpzk5am

Most of Bethesda's Xbox games are already on Game Pass or have been at one point or another, but it'd be nice to have them on there permanently. I just wonder if they're going to be releasing them in waves or all at once, because it's like 24 games and only 6 of them are currently on the service (with another 7 having been on there at some point, so they'd be returning games).

ID: gq0rxb8

Give us Doom (2016) back

ID: gq1tsb3

I'd they could get Oblivion GOTY edition, I'd be so pumped. I know usually DLC isn't included, but hopefully since it'll be "in-house" and an older title, I'll get my dream. Miss my lil' shack outside Imperial City

ID: gq1738f

It would be very cheap to not release them all at once. There's no need to bring them in one by one to make it look exciting. They're saying game pass has all first party games so they should be in there as soon as they become "first party".

6 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:08 ID: gpzgdmm

Since E3 is gonna be digital, I'd expect them adverising BE3 or MS's event at the other, whichever will be first.

ID: gq1523w

I imagine they’ll just be consecutive with a reminder to watch the other at the end of whichever comes first.

7 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:00 ID: gpzendp

hope he's right about Elden Ring showing up in March, it seems from his body language he really knows something is coming, don't really see why he would lie as the leaked gameplay would've been the best place to say "i told u guys i was right"

ID: gq2304j

it’s not so much as lying more as “covid changed everything” so plans are constantly shifting

8 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:36 ID: gpzl2mw

Can anyone clarify why E3 being close means Bethesda are going to operate separately through it? I know the stage shows take months of planning but if its all online surely they could just move the demo’s over to the Xbox stream?

ID: gpzn9u0

I think it means Bethesda will still have its own showcase. From what I gather now, Bethesda is separate from Xbox Games Studio’s wing (So it won’t be published by XGS and instead by Bethesda) but is under the control of Xbox itself.

ID: gpzqkqp

Legally, Bethesda and Microsoft must operate separately until the acquisition is final. Since the finalization is so close to E3 and Bethesda is already well-equipped to host a conference and advertise on their own, there's not much to be gained from Microsoft involving themselves and interrupting Bethesda's preexisting marketing strategy.

ID: gq3oo79

Probably because planning these events takes a while so instead of scrapping plans for both MS and Bethesda shows and putting together a condensed MS one last minute its easier to just go through with the original ones this year.

9 : Anonymous2021/03/06 16:56 ID: gpzdy1n

This is so exciting!

10 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:00 ID: gpzemxg

I hope they talk about Bethesda games situation on PS4/PS5. I expect those games coming to PC/Xbox only but who knows...

ID: gpzf54c

Klobrille (prominent Xbox user on twitter) touched on this subject and it's best for everyone, both fans and Xbox, to just come out and be straightforward and say it's exclusive to xbox/pc or not exclusive.

Microsoft has that problem of leaving doors opened for other platforms about their games.

ID: gpzgvhj

Bethesda will eventually become exclusive either way. Gamepass day 1 won't simply do it.

If Phil Spencer were to announce bethesda remaining multiplat he wouldn't last long, which would lead to the next guy making them exclusive anyway.

Not making bethesda games only on pc/xbox will lead to the downfall of Xbox, because it creates uncertainity about if microsoft is in the console business in the long run.

ID: gpzx92i

I hope exclusivity on all platforms becomes a thing of the past.

11 : Anonymous2021/03/06 19:52 ID: gq0797c

I just want them to announce that all upcoming bethesda games will be exclusive to xbox and PC.

ID: gq15nqm

Why would you want that?

12 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:00 ID: gpzep7i

I just hope MS finally says what's going to happen to bethesda games. Exclusive or not...

ID: gq09bie

I know it's not too likely but I really hope they realize that the water cooler aspect that everyone was playing and talking about Skyrim in 2011 was part of what made it so special. It would be a shame if ES6 cuts out such a large part of the player base.

13 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:56 ID: gpznh5y

Is there a specific time in the video he talks about it?

ID: gpzny9r

34:33

14 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:18 ID: gpziblb

Can’t wait for this to clearly be a business/strategy type event and then have people go “Hurr durr no games”

15 : Anonymous2021/03/06 18:33 ID: gpzso4k

Bethesda having an E3 this year makes total sense for several reasons:

Unless there is a deep-dive at Sony’s FOG/SOP, Tokyo Ghostwrite will still need to be shown off. Showcase next-gen upgrades/updates for ESO. Additional content for Year of Oblivion for ESO. Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part II highlight, along with next-gen patches for Doom Eternal for XSX/PS5. More additional content for F076. Possible next-gen patches for both including additional new content as per the road map. Deep dives for Starfield (regardless of release year). Focus on mobile stuff like update for Commander Keen, Elder Scrolls Blades etc Quake Champions stuff

Now, I would expect new announcements like first Starfield trailer and Wolf III to still be highlighted at Microsoft’s E3 and announced. That’s a no-brainer. However, when it comes to stuff like announcements of special editions and stuff like that, that will be saved for Bethesda’s show.

Up until the sale was finalized, Bethesda operated independently, so them continuing on as business as normal until Microsoft took control, would mean they still planned their own E3.
The Bethesda acquisition talks didn't start until Summer 2020, so things probably continued under "business as normal".

ID: gq01q4r

Don't be too surprised if you get a Wolfenstein III trailer and Starfield teaser at the main Xbox showcase, but then you get a deep dive at the Bethesda one. IIRC they did that with Fallout 76.

16 : Anonymous2021/03/06 16:59 ID: gpzekxq

They will save that for E3.

Wasn't E3 reportedly cancelled?

Or is the digital event version still good to go?

ID: gpzf6pr

Yeah, the live event for E3 was cancelled. Digital version is still going ahead June 15-17 apparently

ID: gpzexsi

Was thinking the same thing

17 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:26 ID: gpzjt9f

Is it on spotify?

18 : Anonymous2021/03/06 21:43 ID: gq0tzzm

If starfield is coming out this year I could definitely see like another teaser trailer too close out the event that ends with "More news this summer"

19 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:13 ID: gpzh9cq

Yeah, I think it's too early to announce new games, but maybe they could publicly confirm the exclusivity or not of bethesda games, it's the most controversial detail at the moment.

20 : Anonymous2021/03/06 19:56 ID: gq07xni

So basically I should expect thirty minute gameplay demos of Starfield and Avowed next week?

ID: gq0ucrr

Lol. I know you’re sarcastic but at most I’d expect them to give a small piece of info, a 5 second tease, or a hint to look forward to E3.

21 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:29 ID: gpzkaw1

And then Beth still operating separately through E3 because June is distressingly close.

I don't think 3+ months is too close to not change anything/everything in regards to press conferences.

ID: gpznje3

I think it does tbh.

You need to gather all the gameplay from the builds, do script writing and rehearsals and then all the shit that comes with editing a pre-recorded video. I imagine a live show is even worse to organize

ID: gpzqxws

Absolutely is if you've already shot a bunch of stuff and have PR materials ready.

They have deep-dives for probably Ghostwire, ESO expansions, FO76 expansions, in addition to Starfield, Wolf III and others. Some announcements will be at Xbox's shows with deep-dives at Bethesda.

Now the question is if this formula continues NEXT YEAR, or if this is the last hurray of Bethesda E3-style presentations.

Sony will go bankrupt. It's done. Xbox won the console wars. The only thing Sony can do is buy New Zealand on eBay.

ID: gpzw9b1

Sony is done. They won’t recover from this.

23 : Anonymous2021/03/06 22:20 ID: gq115vg

My prediction is that Bethesda games will come first to XBOX and later to PlayStation for the first few years.

It's difficult not to read into their desire to maintain Bethesda's publishing arm and the CFO's comments.

24 : Anonymous2021/03/06 17:36 ID: gpzl3dz

Oh, what a surprise....
I say sarcastically.

25 : Anonymous2021/03/06 19:39 ID: gq04sro

Bedecepda, deception guaranteed, they should convert to sewing.
