Gabe replies to (almost?) all fanmail he gets. Wrote me back and gave me advice during a very difficult time in my life. Any issues with Valve or Steam aside, he's a genuinely great person.
ID: gq6uux3Really? That's awesome. He does comes off as a real genuine guy. The fact that he actively cares about his community and takes time to read all the emails he must have received over the years is really something.
I remember someone recently who contacted him for Steam support and he helped him with his issue when asked if he could publish the email Gabe responded saying something along the lines of "it's fine at the end of the day were all in support at Valve, I'm here to help"
Can't even imagine any founder or CEO doing anything close to that.

In almost all his game documentaries (the things in valve games where devs talk about how they made the game), Gabe always ends with how we can write to him via email and gives his email address. He also says that although he doesn't reply to all of them, he does read all of them.
Replies like these that op got are proof of that. This is one of the reasons why I like Gabe.

That is truly one of the most wholesome things Gabe Newell can possibly do to reply to an email to see how his customers are doing, no doubt he is definitely one of the absolute most wholesome CEOs out there (I know there are others out there who would do the same thing) but still this is EPIC!

Also as much as I love Steam, I loathe them and every other digital merchant that is ripping us all off. We don't own anything we buy from most of these platforms across the web. We're only leasing these things which means whatever you buy can and will be revoked at any time. We just need some serious consumer protection like we have with physical goods.

ID: gq79cl5Doubtful as it has been long been known that Gabe has actively encouraged people to email him even if it has to do with support. He has said in interviews that he appreciates reading emails but may not always reply back. I wouldn't have published his email if he did not give permission already for people to send him emails.
The last person who emailed him for support asked his permission if he could publish his email on reddit and Gabe gave his blessing to do so, this has been common knowledge for a while now so if Gabe is ok with it then I am, I don't see anything wrong with sharing a positive story with the community.
If anything Gabe would be happy as this shows him and his company in a positive light, since it shows that they still care about the little guy.
