The humour, charm, vibrant and happy visuals, fantastic music, love for the Playstation legacy, incredible integration of Dualsense features (in the same was as how Ape Escape innovated with the Dualshock), great mix of tight platforming and "combat", just everything would fit sooo well..
And yes I know I know, very unlikely to happen blah blah. But, if it did happen, there are nobody I would rather want behind the game than Asobi Team. Seeing how Japan Studio (the ones behind the Ape Escape franchise) will be absorbed into this team from 1 of April, it would fit EVEN better!

Astro deserves a proper AAA title. He could genuinely be the next big Sony mascot with fun family friendly games that are Sony's answer to Mario. I would much rather the devs be given the time and money to make a full length Astro platformer.

Astro Bot is Sony and Asobi's Super Mario, they will continue milking this for years to come. If you were lucky enough to play Astro Bot Robot Rescue for PSVR (which is considerably more enjoyable than Playroom) you would be quite happy with that direction. Playroom was great, and this team have really brought back platformers to where they were decades ago.

ID: gqrtxlm100% this. Astro Bot has that Nintendo magic, Asobi knows how to make a game that is pure fun and joy. Astro’s Playroom celebrates the history of PlayStation the way Super Mario Odyssey celebrated Mario. It’s a perfect blend of modern mechanics, polish, and nostalgia Easter eggs for the long time fans. I smiled my entire time playing, and wished there was more after the end.
I only played the demo of Rescue Mission but will be playing the full game soon. All I can say is THAT is how you make great use of new tech. Excited and hope they can work on some new titles for PSVR2. Looking forward to more from the team in the future.

Japan Studio used to be an umbrella for many creative directors and teams. And ASOBI! was only founded in 2012, by Nicolas Doucet, whose history was in Eyetoy games and other PlayStation oddities. Indeed, many of the staff at ASOBI! are new blood.
Most of the staff behind Ape Escape left Sony long ago, the only notable one that stuck around was Takamatsu Iijima (artist of Ape Escape), who directed Knack and Knack 2. He also has likely since left, in the aftermath of the Japan Studio culling.

I bought a PS5 last month and I got Spiderman and Dark Souls with it but my 4 year old and I have played Playroom for hours and it's been my favourite part of buying this console.
I'm a PC gamer mainly but a Gamer ultimately so PS5 is my console of choice as I can get all the Xbox games on PC. This is an excellent showcase of what the impressive new controller can do and the music is so catchy and well produced. I love all the nods and references as well and it's just impressive that a free game gives so much and has had so many hours put into it.
Genuinely love to see what they could do with a load of money and a new IP or even a classic to rework.

My theory is they’ll release the new ape escape for the new vr hardware as a release title Since old ape escape was all about zomg dual shock analog sticks, I feel like this would be similar. That and frankly ape escape would be a perfect vr game

That's an interesting perspective. They said Asobi would be a center of Team Japan, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be restricted to only Astrobot. Especially if the studio expands.
But Platformers could work well through Asobi. The ideas that could go into this with controller. Then Playstation Studios branding could set high expectations for the release and expanding brand popularity and awareness for their ip.

Lol sony really dismantled a whole studio and made silent hill devs leave just to focus on a childish games as astrobot. Downvote me if you want but astrobot isn't as interesting of a game and i doubt many give a shit about.

This would be great. Astro has that “Nintendo magic”. It’s the first non-Nintendo game my 6 year old has played that really captured her imagination the way the Mario games do.
