Really helps that the main campaign is a reasonable length and doesn't force grinding to complete it like most open worlds do

ID: gqx04ab

Yup. I agree with you on this. Sucker punch did a great job with infamous second son. It was a great open world game that wasn't filled with bullshit just to make the game seem large.

Literally AC Odyssey, Origin etc.....pure filler trash.

ID: gqx14qn

I have the hardest time finishing Ubisoft games. I’ll get to like 80%-90% completed with the story and just can’t bring myself to finish them. I just get burnt out by all of the repetition and grinding.

ID: gqx46hw

I love Spider-Man 2018 but it suffers from this same issue after the main game. The crime missions you have to do are just pure filler garbage. It becomes unfun after the 40th car chase.

ID: gqx1h89

I just finished playing odyssey a few weeks ago. 95 hours to finish the main story/all of the cultists and some of the DLC. At one point I literally just gave up on the DLC and uninstalled it. I enjoyed it, but they could have shaved like 50 hours off the game and it wouldn't have made a difference.

ID: gqxifc2

Infamous second son’s open world is absolutely beautiful, even to this day

ID: gqwxhec

I missed a lot of side quests but it was nice to be able to pick and choose. I want some cool moves and armor and let's just get through the plot.

I can't go back and play a game once I'm done. I've never continued to play an open world game that resumes after the credits roll. That's OK I don't need to wring every minute out of a game.

ID: gqwzl9t

Well you’re missing out on a lot of great things going that route including story and armor.

ID: gqx8pnx

I originally played mostly the main story, then hit the end and all the characters were like “maybe after this you’ll help me with my problems finally” and I never felt so bad

ID: gqx749b

For me, it's just because it's so good.

The only open world games that have been so fun that it was my pleasure "Platinuming" during the PS4 gen were Shadow of Mordor (really liked War but something about SoM resonated with me), Horizon, and Tsushima.

Every other open world game I played, by the end, I either found it a chore collecting all the things I hadn't yet collected, or I just outright decided that I needed to stick to the story or else I'd never finish it.

That's not to say other games were bad. I loved other games. But by around hour 40, there's nothing new anymore. Burn-out can start to set it, if the game has some glaring flaws. So a lot of the time, even though I like other games, by the end I am regularly like "Okay, Loretta go ahead and wrap up the story before I lose interest."

But no, with Tsushima, it was my pleasure following all the foxes. Especially after that one side mission involving the foxes (trying to be just vague enough that if you haven't played, that won't be a spoiler). I WANTED to create the Haikus. I felt Jin's stress so I needed to relax him in all the hot springs. Etc.

It takes a special game to not only 100% it, but to not feel like it's a chore at any point, but to desire the 100%, and honestly be kind of bummed that it's over. I have played many very good open world games where that just wasn't the case.

ID: gqx6bfp

I noticed something I haven't before while playing this game. At not one point did I ever feel like it was a chore to travel and I never got tired of the open world. Great game

ID: gqx1q7p

You basically can unlock the best weapons and armor pieces good enough for the end game in the first area, if I'm not mistaken. Most upgrades you do later are mostly sidegrades, like additional armor pieces and various charms for them. Which is a good design imo.

But also, I'm curious whether the ps5 patch helped boost the completion number a bit. I imagine a fair number of ps5 players decided to go back to it to play the upgraded version.

ID: gqx5z7e

I’m unfamiliar with the PS4 version but the PS5 experience has been flawless.

I liked the various sidegrades because they allow you to switch up combat and stealth strategy to keep things fresh during new game +, which adds even more.

Just restarted on ps5 and wow what a difference. The frame rate is amazing and the quality is just insane. I upgraded to an LG oled for the ps5 and I can’t believe how good hdr makes everything look

ID: gqx293a

Me too. It’s phenomenal

ID: gqxstmp

This is why I’m holding off on all of the games that came out this past year, I want to play them on the five instead. I’m so sick of 30 FPS and pop in textures and two minute loading screens.

4 : Anonymous2021/03/14 15:19 ID: gqwja7e

Still need to restart and actually finish this, and Horizon. Only got a few hours into each.

ID: gqwjthn

Horizon may be boring in the first hours ofnit, but definetively must be finished!

ID: gqwk5xd

Yeah they were kinda opposites in my experience. I liked GoT a lot in the beginning but it got more boring as it went on. HZD only got more exciting as I played.

ID: gqwq6zx

I wasn’t a huge fan of the story, but honestly the combat, leveling progression, open world, and enemy designs was enough for me to want to complete. Really enjoyed it!

ID: gqx55mi

Dude horizon was such an eye roller for me the first few hours besides the insane graphics and nice gameplay, the story and setting were so stupid to me but OH MY GOD does this plot get better. Legit of of my top 5 scifi game stories world building and lore wise. So fucking great

ID: gqxnurl

Horizon I get to the sneaking around robot dinosaurs bit and give up every time. I know people love the game but every time I start to play it I feel like I’m pushing myself to play it and not actually wanting to play it.

As someone who hates open world games, I 100%’d this game. Easily.

Everything about it makes it feels fun and purposeful. Combat is perfect as well so it makes it easy to play over and over. You naturally explore the world and never feel like you just have to place way points and rush to the thing you want.

This game is near perfect.

ID: gqwy368

Plus there's no trophy for completing a 300 hour campaign on the highest difficulty without taking any damage or some such nonsense. They're all very reasonable.

ID: gqx2ufk

Yup. The game is phenomenal

ID: gqxmw69

The game is somehow designed to be very easily explorable. The wind system is clever and collectibles & trophies can be found with the game mechanics instead of guides

6 : Anonymous2021/03/14 15:17 ID: gqwj2he

Can't wait to play this, just waiting for the next sale

ID: gqwlof5

It is next level on the PS5

ID: gqwy1v6

For some reason 60fps makes the game even more beautiful. There seems to be less blur when moving the camera and a sharper picture. Don’t know how to put it in words. Everything looks cleaner.

ID: gqwooh5

Currently playing it and it is so good. Might have to do with my love for Japan and samurai in general.

ID: gqwk71w

Worth the full price if you can afford it.

ID: gqwmv94

I'm sure it is! Just working through some backlog now; I typically score my games in that $30-$40 range on ebay unless there's a digital sale that can't be beat

7 : Anonymous2021/03/14 16:46 ID: gqwt3ox

I'm not surprised to see Spider-Man at the top of the completion list, what an amazing game. Especially on the PS5.

I'm happy to know that Ghost of Tsushima is near the top too, I should definitely play it.

8 : Anonymous2021/03/14 15:40 ID: gqwllct

Its a good game with a decent length (25hrs for main story, 44 for main and extras) Even completionist only takes 60, and that's probably way too high.

Compare it to something like Valhalla (54, 88, and 130) or RDR2 (49, 79, 166).

Games have gotten too big. I prefer a little less size if it means less repetition of the same gameplay/quests past the point they are engaging.

ID: gqxcbkz

Hmm I found RDR2 to be way less repetitive when compared to GoT

ID: gqwo2js

I had to keep taking breaks from Valhalla. I plunked 130hrs into that game and beat 4 other games between those breaks. Love the game, but burnout starts to set in.

ID: gqwqtwq

I think that’s just how you have to play AC games now.

I did the same with Odyssey and had a blast. I played it in about 3 main courses spread out over about 6 months. AC games are fun, it they are also repetitive and so breaks are a must IMO

ID: gqwqv46

i don’t know how you lasted that long i started to get bored after 11 hours. i want to enjoy the game, playing as a viking sounds so raw, but was already lost in the story and couldn’t wrap my head around the power system

ID: gqx02p5

RDR2 justifies its length for the most part. Chapters 5 and 6 aren’t as good as the others but the story is wrapped up so beautifully that I don’t care. The epilogue can then be enjoyed at your leisure and is essentially what a single player dlc would look like. It’s like an entire television series and I think far and away justifies its $60 price tag more than most other AAA games.

No ones forcing anyone to do everything in the game and I think the quality throughout speaks for itself. I don’t think that you can say the same for any of the recent assassins creed games

ID: gqwsv8b

Main story is nowhere near 25h btw.

9 : Anonymous2021/03/14 19:13 ID: gqxh2kb

Because people were just waiting for it to be good like some said, and then the game just ended.

Idk, that was the case for me and my friends. Im sure that was the reason for a lot of people included in that stat.

10 : Anonymous2021/03/14 16:16 ID: gqwpmqr

Yeah GoT is great. The last half kind of got boring but it looks so pretty

11 : Anonymous2021/03/14 18:50 ID: gqxdgcr

Interesting because I felt it was bit too long for me. I got to the last section and put it down. Got a bit tedious.

12 : Anonymous2021/03/14 15:19 ID: gqwjbgq

From the list in the article, I'm shocked RDR2 is so low.

ID: gqwk917

That game is long as hell and has 2 endings. I bet a lot of people quit after the first. I didn’t realize TLOU2 had the highest completion rate at 58%, that’s crazy.

ID: gqx1hjh

Really? It's a great game, but it's soooo long. I'm not surprised at all that such a relatively low number of people saw it all the way through to the end just because of what a time consuming process that is to do

ID: gqwjex4

Why, a lot of people have been saying just how tedious the game is.

edit: added comma next to why.

ID: gqwosuq

It's a very tedious game and if you don't see the beauty in the game mechanics in it's own tediousness then it's not worth playing lol. I definitely had to change my mindset while playing it

13 : Anonymous2021/03/14 16:01 ID: gqwnx3e

I never platniumed a game, but I did with GoT and explored it extensively

14 : Anonymous2021/03/14 15:54 ID: gqwn79j

It was a beautiful game inside and out
