Persona 5 or Persona 5 royale

Please bear with me. PS5 is my 2nd console after PS3 and needless to say I've missed on all last gen games as I don't even have a decent PC. Now I'm interested in P5 and was wondering if P5 royale is worth over it cause I got P5 for free with ps+. As of rn I can't buy P5 royale so is it worth the wait and money?

I ended up loving the game and wishing I’d have played Royal instead. You could play the first part of the game and if you like it enough you could wait for Royal to go on sale.

I'm actually loving it but once I've completed a game, going back for 2nd playthrough is really difficult for me. Also I've heard it's really long so if it's longer than darksouls 3 I can't go for a second time.

Royal is an extra 30-40 hours from what I’ve heard

I'd say you should wait for Royal. Persona 5 is absurdly long, like 100+ hours, so the likelihood of you playing it again is very low. Royal adds more to the story and characters, but also reworks some gameplay mechanics. One thing I was shocked to hear having only played some of Royal is that guns didn't regain ammo after every battle in the base edition, but instead you have one magazine to last you until you leave the dungeon.
On top of that the game is 4K on ps4 pro, so it will be 4k on PS5. The regular version is only 1080p no matter which console.
Royal also includes all of the DLC from the regular version, which is insanely expensive. It's mostly just costumes (most of which aren't great) and extra personas, but still more content included at no extra charge

Yeah, I only played Royal and I can’t understand that weapons don’t reload on the base game, renders them practically unusable.

It's really bizarre. Like they're not even that good to begin with, but to only have like 7 bullets for dozens of encounters? Ridiculous.

I also started playing P5 because of the Collection and really liked it, luckily P5R was on sale around that time so I got that and ended up putting almost 150hrs + plat.

I've only played about 10hrs of P5 so I can't tell you if it's worth gettin P5R over it but I know Royal got enhanced visuals, QoL improvements and extra content that P5 doesn't have.

I think if you liked P5 you should get Royal on sale.

I'm actually liking it. It's my first turn based game so it's something new. I don't mind waiting as I got tons of games from collection to play. I think I'll just delete it and go for royale

Exact same here. Never played this kinda game before, and I don't even like anime of any kind. First couple of hours I thought I was gonna delete it but it was kinda intriguing so I played for a couple more, and the rest is history lol.

edit: saw you talking about replayability. When you finish the game you'll definitely want to start a NG+ trust me. I just finished it recently so I'll wait some time before I start NG+, gotta forget most of it first lol

Yeah was gonna say this. It's more linear than witcher (from another comment you posted) but it's linear so it doesn't feel that way. Was gonna suggest you do the first palace and if you like the feel then just go for royale. I am just about to beat it for the first time, but I played the original twice and also platinumed it. I've tried playing the witcher 3 on three separate occasions and just stop after <10 hours for some reason

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm gonna ditch the base and buy the royale version.

Wise decision

I was in the exact same situation and posted on P5 reddit about this. I was 30 hours in when I realized P5R was a thing and because I didn't want to play those 30hours again I just finished the game. What I'm doing is buy royal when on sale and play it maybe 2 years from here because it is a long game, it took me 150 hours or so. I'm sure I'll appreciate royal when the time comes to play it again. Enjoy it man It's an amazing game.

I'm exactly trying to avoid this situation. Thank goodness I asked. Thx for the input

It's probably been said but P5R is the way. Quality of life improvements are worth it

Wait until you can afford Royal. The fact you get more ammunition after every battle instead of having to leave the palace to replenish like in the OG game is huge. Plus all the other QOL features and new features the game adds.

So I've been told. I'm waiting for royal now.

I bought the original then bought Royal when I got my PS5. No regrets at all starting from scratch for Royal. I had about 60hrs in the original when I started again

You can't go wrong with playing both imo since they are really good games, royal is just an improvement of the vanilla version. But as for me, I don't think playing Persona 5, then Persona 5 royal consecutively is a good idea, since both are really lengthy games.

I've played P5, then royal 3 years later and it felt nice having to experience it again after a few years. If you plan on buying royal soon-ish, then I would just wait for royal, if not, play persona 5. Did I say both are really good games? Yes they are really good games. Lol

ID: gqy5u7r

Yup I'll probably buy it in a few months so I'll wait for now

ID: gqy6gir

I'm really excited for you when you eventually play the game. If it's your kind of game, you will really like it! Enjoy man!

Royal is the much better version, so I guess it depends on how tight money is.

ID: gqyczpk

I just bought ps5 and my account balance is approximately 10 dollars type of tight money

I haven't played Royal, played Persona 5 when it came out and loved every minute of it. Base game took me somewhere around 100 hours to beat. I'm sure Royal is the better game with more content, but the base 5 will not disappoint if you like that type of jrpg. I've seen Royal go for sale for $25ish range so you can always wait for a sale if you prefer getting all you can out of the game.

Have you tried regular P5? If you liked it, P5R is a massive improvement over it. But if money is an issue I’m sure you’d like P5 anyway and can just play p5r later

ID: gqxzqoc

I'm actually liking it. How is the replayablity

ID: gqy6kpq

Pretty repeatable imo, esp with NG+. Royal goes on sale often enough so I’d just wait til the next sale to grab it

ID: gqy0g1y

Long ass game and superb replayabilty imo. And new game + makes it smoother for replays

Play the free one. Wait for Sega to eventually release a proper PS5 version and maybe with bonus contents Or get Royale when on sales
