I fired up my PS4 for the first time in ages, I'm taking it to my barber shop since I have the PS5 at home now, so decided to do some updates and stuff.
I decided to go on and had to update THPS 1+2 so I could upload my save game to transfer to the PS5. Of course this required an update, a 2gb update....that took 17 minutes. I started downloading the THPS 1+2 PS5 upgrade straight away too....this took about 12 minutes to download and was ready and installed before the PS4 had done an update!
I then had to load the game on the PS4 and couldn't believe how impatient it has made me already. Waiting on the PS4 just seemed to take an age now!
If you are lucky enough to have secured a PS5, go fire up the PS4 quickly and see if you appreciate your new machine more than you thought already

PS5 is great but man do I miss the themes. I had sooo many good ones that I can't use anymore.

lowkey one of the best things about the ps5 is how fast the store loads and store search improvements
the store on PS4 was such a potatoe
but for the love of god bring back the long press of the PS button to put my console to sleep. that change makes no sense

Aren’t download speeds according to your internet? I have a PS5 and installing/updating FF7R took a little over 30 minutes.
ID: gt0e6qxwifi adapters are different on ps4 and ps5, so doesnt matter how good your internet is if the console cant handle it. If i remember correctly the base ps4 has a pretty shitty one

ID: gsztwjxBoth PlayStation 4 and Xbox One had game download speeds that appear to be limited to lower speeds than would be expected given the network interface and many people's home internet bandwidth.
Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series have improved game download speeds, it appears that both platforms may have been throttled by the server and the max speed has been raised for the next gen clients.

ID: gt0h9f7Iirc the download speeds were actually limited so the consoles were able to download stuff while in game without impacting performance. The PS Vita and switch do similar things (with the latter speeding up downloads in sleep mode while docked)

ID: gt0pmnwNope. I have gigabit speeds and FF7R takes me less than ten minutes on PS5. On PS4 it would take at least 20 mins. Yesterday I downloaded and installed Ratch & Clank in about 2 minutes. No way PS4 would do that
ID: gszsmnpIt doesn't seem to be solely just Internet speeds as my PS4 is definitely slower and is closer to the wifi than the PS5.
I think maybe the PS5 can actually write to the hard drive quicker or something possibly? Or maybe the PS5 updates and games are more optimised.

Just the quietness of the ps5 astonishes me. Had a ps4 pro and and that thing was incredibly loud. The ps5 is so quiet. Was happy to see that did liquid metal for the cpu this time around instead of regular thermal paste. I would like to have my ps4 Spider-Man and final fantasy 7 remake themes back, but other than that the 3 month journey of trying to find a ps5 was worth it.

Honestly, the only reason why I still have my PS4 Pro is because it’s the Spider-Man edition. That’s it. No other reason.

I just miss the activity feed. Other than that the PS4 Pro already feels like the PS3... just old. The lag in the UI, the low resolution look, 30 FPS, etc.
Don’t get me wrong the 4 in one of my favorite generations but it’s the balanced jump consoles needed.
The 5 is the biggest jump in tech since the first ps1 and going to 3D.
Then the controller. I used to love the DS4 but after using the DUal Sense the Dual Shock feels like a cheap plastic toy... the Dual Sense feels great.

I sold my PS4 but wow does my switch feel outdated now and I love that console since launch. Even the portability isn't winning it for me anymore as the console is so heavy.

As much as I appreciate how fast and responsive the PS5 is in multitasking I'm not a fan of the complexe navigation of the UI, it may look sleek and stylish but it has a terrible UX… it always take mores steps to accomplish basic tasks and it's very confusing overall.
I also miss being able to check the Activity Feed or the Streaming Hub.

I agree, after having a PS5 for over three weeks now I still keep going in the wrong direction with the UI every other time I want to do something. Also the fact that you can't go straight to the trophy page and that the trophies are by default sorted wrong and the pages of them are too big and go left to right is a goddamn joke. Finding the right trophy to look at was so much easier on PS4.

Yeah, load times, download times, and the UI are way faster. That doesn't even include the general improvements to backward compatible games. There is a lot to love about the PS5.
That being said, there are some small nitpicks that I have, like not being able to manage HDR like the PS4 or the media player being significantly worse than the PS4's.

I bought Disco Elysium today and took my dog for a walk literally half a block away...came back and was ready to play on PS5. Woulda been hours wait on ps4 pro it seems lol.

I had the PS4 in the rec room, and I wound up just buying another ps5 for down there and gave the PS4 to my kid. No regrets.
