ID: gsyug8aDruckmann is showrunning with Craig Mazin of Chernobyl and it has the same composer as the game. Pedro Pascal is going to be great as Joel, I recommend checking out Prospect to get an idea of what he might be like. Even if it doesn't end up being great, it won't be bad.

Hardened lone wolf type survivor with the task of protecting and delivering a critically important child to a specific destination. And he is amazing as the mandalorian even though we barely ever see his face. He’s gonna kill it

Prolly has more chemistry with the Ellie actress cuz they would’ve been on the same sets with eachother (for the last GoT season). That last part i’m just throwing in there but the first 2 are valid lol

ID: gsyy4hpFor people worried about Pedro Pascal doing a “Joel” voice, I think with a few tweaks to his performance in “Prospect” he’s already done it.
It’s also a pretty great sci-fi film, especially for being one on a budget, that does a TON of world building and kinda fits into that “space western” genre. You can catch it on Netflix right now, and I’d recommend you not even click on that trailer and just watch it instead. Also, it was based on a 13 minute short film by the same name from DUST on YouTube. <—- Link for the lazy.
ID: gsyios2Here's a thought, the voice is totally inconsequential to the character and this adaptation.
The voice can't be "off" for a character that by all accounts you don't even know. It could be a Carbon copy of Joel, it could not be, even if it was meant to be a complete recreation of the game, the voice is an inconsequential aspect that has no bearing on who this character is.
These details you nerds stress over are beyond the point, Joel could be from Florida, Oregon or New York. He could be from Canada, He could be European. This has little baring on the character Joel, that is not what makes him an interesting character. These are the types of things that adaptations adapt.

It probably just seems this way, because I'm guessing the only things you've seen Pedro Pascal in before are The Mandalorian, GoT, Narcos, etc...stuff where he's used more-or-less the same voice every time.
He hasn't done anything drastically different in those, because he hasn't needed to. And I think sometimes people underestimate how much work film and TV actors put in to developing the voices and accents for their characters when required (like it presumably will be for TLOU).
Plus, it's not like a Texas drawl is a particularly hard accent to pull off. Everyone and their grandma can do a Matthew McConaughey impression.

I was surprised by Pedro initially mainly due to his size, but after seeing Prospect he’s perfect for the role.

Literally has no baring on the character whatsoever, unless they cast someone cartoonishly big like the mountain, or on the opposite end Peter Dinklage... literally any able bodied man could play this role.
He is a man that can take care of himself physically in a fight, that's about it.

Agreed, not even close.
I think doubters are going to be surprised at how well Pascal pulls this off. He's absolutely crushed every major role he's ever been in, and I think people are underestimating how a little makeup, a good fake accent, and some Hollywood magic can very easily make this work.
The image and voice that a lot people have in their heads for Pascal right now is not the same thing you're going to see on screen when the show airs.

HBO is known for their production values though. Also I think we’re in a post Netflix era now with Disney+ where shows are getting movie budgets anyway just look at the new MCU shows.

HBO has a track record of perfection but the last 2 things I’ve watched by them were weak, low budget and sub par; I Know this much is True and Your Honor. Marvel and Disney are financially in a different league altogether from HBO. I mean if it was being made by them, then yeah the budget is no issue. The Last of Us won’t have anything like the mass appeal of their shows it’ll be a violent late night, bleak, gritty post apocalyptic drama like The Walking Dead which is another series which looks horribly low budget and cheap. Every time I’ve ever had Netflix I unsubscribe at the end of the free month, Amazon too. It’s just episode after episode churned out, stories which barely progress, cliffhangers constantly. It’s completely ruined the quality of tv series.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it will be very good, I just hope it has the budget to make it a classic.

According to Jason Kenney the production is the largest in Canadian film/TV history. Now take it with a grain of salt considering who's saying it and the fact that many $200 million productions have filmed in both Toronto and Vancouver. At the very least it seems to have a big budget attached to it.

I don't like how they said the first season would "greatly deviate" from the original game. Gonna keep an open mind, though.

There isn't enough content in the first game for a whole seasons worth of TV. The game is only like 10 hours and probably less than half of that could be directly translated to TV (unless you want to follow Joel around as he gathers up broken scissors and sneaks around bad guys for half an hour at a time). They were obviously going to add chunks of new story, and you can't do that without making adjustments to what's already there.

Yeah. Each season we only had one stop along the way. I presume we’ll just have a few more roadblocks. Last of Us was already kinda episodic.
