Never played these. I tried not long ago but they felt so clunky I couldn’t get into it. So maybe I’ll play them now.

That's definetly fair for the first one, even though I loved playing it for its story, the gameplay wasn't polished at all.

That's said, I think ME2 and 3 were huge upgrades and if they made enough changes to the first one there should be a big improvement. Might still not be for everyone but it's one of my favorite sagas, although I'm a bit of a BioWare fanboy

ME1 is pretty clunky and it's not really until Virmire that the game gets good

2 and 3 aren't nearly as clunky, they're actually pretty solid, actually.

You're going to love these games. Kinda envious and wish I could play them again for the first time.

The first game had super-clunky gameplay & it gets completely reworked for the 2nd & 3rd. At the time, I just don’t think BioWare really knew what they were doing in that department - the strengths in the first game came from the RPG elements & planetary exploration (which was unfortunately omitted from the later games).
